It's a bit difficult to tell w/ the recording quality but do you think the amp's OD channel is richer/fuller/more dimensional than playing either OD pedal through the clean channel?
@Gnochman Thanks for watching! Yes, the recording quality is very low, due to the limits of the fLip camera I used. And yes, I do think the amp's natural overdrive is very rich. I am a huge fan of these Classic 30 amps. I use the pedals to give me more variety, but I do like the Classic 30's built in overdrive channel.
@Danthehorse Thanks for watching, man. Yeah, the MI is a great little pedal. You know when I like it best? In a live band situation where I can really turn the volume knob up (on the pedal). That's when the MI just screams like a Marshall. Its unreal...
I liked the Peavey's overdrive best. It was clear and more realistic like an amp. The first pedal has that smooth, tubby bassy sound that most pedals always have.
Man, the Wamp slays any OD pedal out there that I have tried. I mean, you can see better audio quality demos here on youtube than mine, and I swear, the SP kills. I also have a Fulltone OCD that is a very solid overdrive. But the the SP has more crunch, bro.
Well, I'm always amazed at the distortion tones this pedal can do. THICK, RICH TONES. But as far as metal? Like Mastodon, Disturbed? I never reach for those kind of tones, so I don't know. But I wouldn't doubt it could. I'll give the Wamp a workout tonight and see...
I know Morello likes to use a JCM800. Now I'm not sure about the super plextortion, but I know the first models were modeled after the JCM800. That being said I would think the plextortion would be a perfect pedal to go for that tone.
Yeah, I think so. To get Tom Morello's sound? I have one RATM album, the one released in '92 with the guy in flames on the cover? The way I think I come close to that tone is by cranking the volume on the amp and the Wampler, and dialing down the volume on the guitar's volume knob. That way, it gives the overdrive/distortion a bite and snap. And when I drop tune to D and bring up the guitar's volume, it just roars...
Yeah, Wamplers are the real deal. The Pinnacle looks like a great pedal, I was torn, as well. I picked the Super Plextortion so I could get the high gain tones as well as the classic rock tones...
My dad has one of those classic 30 amps from the 80's and I love the sound you can get from it. I personally prefer to use it over my own amps lol. Its perfect for bluesy and rock stuff.
Yeah, I agree about the bluesy rock tones. Its a great little amp. It takes pedals well, too. This amp is is a '95 and its still all stock. I may give it a speaker and tube upgrade someday. I dunno...
Did you ever pick up the Ecstasy, my man?

insane pedal, I'm getting the SP right now!
Do you think it compares with anything out there?

The Wampler OWNS!!! I want one but can't decide between the Superplex and the Pinnacle. Any thoughts?

That's a great point. I'll buying a Super Plextortion if my BYOC Shredder turns out to be a bust. Cheers, and great playing!

I can decide between the two either. Someday, I'll get both, but which one first:) The pinnacle has a low gain mode aswell.

Would you recomend the super plextortion or the plextortion for blues rock/ AC/DC tone?
skatertrev7 2 years ago
I haven't tried the Plextortion, but I can dial in blues/rock, AC/DC tones with the Super Plextortion.
