  • Had See You Then backed at 18/1 in January that year, he ended up Fav. on the "Sickened" then went on to win 3 champion Hurdles.

  • Wow... I'd never thought I'd see a race with Northern Game in. He's my horse's granddad :D

    Thanks!

  • Always been my fav race of the festival and im searching high and low for footage of them just need 1980,81,82,83 now and then have full footage of them all since 1979 but do have some of 1982. Ive followed this race since i was a child as it used to have many more ex flat racers than it does now.

  • @bluemanc43 .....yet again...another great upload.....the great Peter o Sullivan.......and a straight forward coverage withe none of the fancy camera angles we get nowadays............................thanks again.........

  • Fantastic vid, love these old recordings from the early/mid 80's. I don't suppose you've got any of Badsworth Boy winning his three Champion Chases?

  • I have every Champion Chase from 1979 onwards same with Gold Cup and Champion Hurdles.

  • yeah great stuff.. how the fortunes of 2 horses futures can differ so starkly.. see you then triple champion hurdler.. northern game never won another race i don't think

  • The Triumph isnt the race it was (though perhaps for the better) because there are too many alternative races now. It could produce some 50-1 upsets and often good horses wouldnt recover for a while from what could often be a gruelling slog. See You Then was a hot favourite in this the bookies would have been bankrupted if hed won. Great find, many thanks for putting it up.

  • This is always a competitive race on Cheltenham Gold Cup day in this instance, 'See You Then' who went on to become a future Champion hurdler in the late 1980s. It has been won by good horses over the years and is it true that this race used to run at Hurst Park?

  • Yes, it was run at Hurst Park until that course closed in 1962 - then it lapsed for a couple of years, I think, before being brought back at Cheltenham in 1965.

  • wow thats so cool!!!!!!!!!

  • wow
