This is the best adaption of the Yang Clan story. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes ancient tv series! This is one of the best tv series I seen of recent years (i.e. since TVB's golden of the 80s).

Samurai dress (mostly the body) is adopted from one of the armour styles of Tang dynasty China, which preceded Song. Gradually the style would change a little and look more like the Japanese Samurai ur familiar with (large elaborate helmets, sandals instead of boots)
