I LOVE that Hank Thompson ENUNCIATES every word he sings. You don't get that much. Hank was a sophisticated entertainer, something we could use more of even now.
Bassingal89.... My Grandparents watched the CMA's till the year they both died and country is the same it's just different. the messages are still there the music is just meant for my generation. ->25yrs old
To respectfully disagree; today's "country" is Nowhere near the Real country that Hank and others played. It might be meant for your generation because it's mostly "warmed over" rock. If you like it; that's fine, though. Some of today's singers can do real country; but I'm afraid the "fat cats" of the industry insist on shoving the "new stuff" at us; and we just go to youtube and other places to find the Real stuff. It's sad that the "music mafia" took over some while back.
Back in those days ol Hank was a real dresser with a lot of class. In later years he started getting sloppy, even lost that Stetson...just trying to be hip. He shoiuld have held onto what made him famous.
Back in those days, all those stars wore expensive Nudie clothes..but they sure looked better that the stars of today...and sounded better, too. Thanks for putting me straight.
I sure thought that I heard it on the "jukebox" in "beautiful downtown Olongapo City". Maybe I had too much of that "San Miguel Beer" and got him confused with someon else.
OMG San Miguel - never in the Philipines but close enuf on Guam,M.I. Downed a few of them myself while listening to the Country Music back when it was country.
my Mom used to sing this song to us when we were little kids and I am 63 and glad I experienced the real country music, We used to video tape the cma's but no more it's not country.
Good bye to one of the great gentlemen of Country Music. By the way, that's Bert Rivera on the steel guitar--he's 71 years old now, and still playing regularly in Austin, Texas. He is awesome--one of the best steel players in the world.
Rest in Peace, Hank. Goodbye to another country music pioneer and original. In a sense, Hank, you're fortunate not to have live to see the further erosion of country music into the horrible mish-mash of rock and pop that it's become. Now you're singing with the angels.
You are right on all counts. He was a great one who gave so many people a great time over the years. Thank goodness their works were recorded, leaving us with great memories.
George Jones introduced Hand Thompson on Austin City Limits with: "If Bob Wills was the King Of Western Swing, you must be the Queen" - Thompson replied, "That's one handle that's never been throwed at me, George!" --- Thanks for sharing this neat old clip!

I had open heart surgery and they found a broken Humpty Dumpty. This is on my list as one of the coolest songs I ever heard.

Hank did have a lot of class, but his clothes didn't make him famous. He will always be remembered by the great music he created.

This was hank's first hit -- #2 in 1948! Notice how it rocks -- seven years before Elvis first stepped into a recording studio.
