You can play by yourself, the single-player might seem a tad shallow in comparison, but is is there. I'd recommend split-screening with a friend because you'll instantly realize how fun the game is when you play it the way it was designed. Single-player isn't bad at all, it's just not as fun as co-op.

Yes you can, the computer plays the other guy. It's not perfect, but one of the best AI teamates I've seen.

Yeah, there's a single-player option, but co-op is what the game was built for. You can go it alone if you want though.
