  • Thank you so much for uploading this beautiful tale, I hope one day it's put back on television in the UK.

  • This is perhaps the single story no child should be left without.

Infinite thanks for posting this. I hadn't shed a rightful tear in quite some time

  • I'm weeping.

  • How wonderful to see this again after so many years. I was in the choir which recorded the music and I sang the treble line in the duet "The city streets are sad and dreary". I'm 52 now but being involved in this magical film is one of my absolute highlights. Thank you for sharing this beautiful film.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I bought it as a VHS tape years ago and haven't been able to see it for 5 years, it still brings back those wonderful memories.

  • The music is magnificent also. penned by an expert in incidental music; it augments the story superbly.

"It certainly was a very hard frost"

"Birds are not allowed to die here!"

  • Thank you for uploading this. this was one of my favourite stories/animated films as a child and not one peorson i speak to has ever heard of it!

i still cry every time i watch it as it's so sad and bitter sweet

  • Mum read this to me all the time. Oscar Wilde was one of her favourite writers, which in turn has made him one of mine. This will always be one of my favourite stories. I can't even begin to explain how much I love The Happy Prince. And yes, I still cry every single time I read it.

  • Thank you 4Gingergirl4 for uploading. I remember watching this quite a few times when I was as kid. Still touches my heart after all these years.

  • Does anyone have the computer animated one with the songs? Because I remember that one.

  • I can't believe somebody disliked this.

  • i am 21... and i searched for this movie sooooo long... i only knew its about a bird and a golden statue... aaaaaaaah i am sooo glad =) ... and yeah nothing has changed.... i am still cryin to this :')

  • Like others who commented here, I was a small boy when I first saw this. It has remained in my memory since then, and finding it once again, I'm reminded that God shows the heart what really matters in life, if one chooses to see.

  • this is like a hans christian andersen story..........brings tears to my eyes.he always had something good and something bad...........though this is not hans story.............

  • Oscar Wilde Was a Genius..too bad that he still hasn't being forgiven for the for a crime that today day is a way of life.

  • Oscar wilde is one my favorite .... i have all his books...he is the best. and this farytale is really beatuful.yes this is the word that describes this tfarytale..beautiful...!!!! i cry...alwayas.i am 21 years old and i am really glad that i lived to see and read this MASTERPIECE.... ''BRING ME THE MOST TWO PRECIOUS THINGS IN THE CITY'' said God to one of His Angels. And the Angel brought Him the leaden heart and the dead bird. Thats my favorite part...

  • This is one of the stories that make me weep uncontrollably.

  • Thank you so much for posting this - I've been looking for it for years! It's my favourite Wilde story along with The Selfish Giant and I cried from the time the opening credits rolled to when it ended - tears of joy and love. Every time I see a bird fly I hear Glynis Johns' voice - Tonight I fly to Egypt! Beautiful <3

  • That was terribly painful. So beautiful. He/She couldn't even kiss his lips. I think my heart broke at the same time as the Prince's when I saw it. I read the story, but this just hit me hard. Oh god, such a beautiful, frighteningly striking story.

  • Thank you.. so so so much about this,

    so much memories ♥

    I'm still crying

  • I had bought this video a long time ago and passed it onto a friend who was heartbroken at the loss of her father. The feeling I get from the story is that life is greater than ourselves, and truly if we are open we can embrace how incredibly powerful we all are when we connect with others, and ultimately the universe. BTW, I am not particularly religious, but totally appreciate the spirituality of this piece.

  • This story has always been my favourite of all time along with others of this nature. It reminds me so much of the compassion one person may have for another, there is no other story that can move me in such a way. The tears are just rolling down my face but they are happy ones. :)

  • "It is not to Egypt I am going..."

No matter how many times I've seen this, that part always makes my eyes wet. Always.

  • omg what a beautiful story... at first i only watch it because of my literature homework! but it's so sad and really, really touching...

  • Heart breaking - Tears and everything. It gets me every time and it will until I die. beautiful story - thank you

  • "Tonight I fly to Egypt! Tonight I fly to Egypt!" and "Swallow, little swallow" are two quotes that I remember from seeing this once in my childhood. this is a truly emotional animated film, not like the idealistic, nonsensical rubbish that is thrown out nowadays. I'm almost in tears watching this. I think I apreciate it more now than I did then. This is beautiful. Absolutley beautiful.

  • Really loved this story as a child and saw it on here about a year ago and it still brings a tear to my eye, a breath of compassion and loyalty in a cruel and cynical world, wish I could somehow edit the 3 parts together.

  • Thank you for posting this video! I had a copy and lost it a long time ago. This one is true to the story and the book, and is enjoyable to all ages. It gets a 10 star rating!

  • My heart is now weeping. OMG I want music NOW. --> Not a wink; BUT tears coming from my eyes. Ahhhhhhh ; -))))) (Must bring my love-energies back up from my sad sad heart. (First and Last time I shall view this. I LOVE HAPPY ENDING. Yep!!! First Bambi NOW this.

  • Thanks so much for this. It used to be on the Snowman viedo but I lost that years ago. Thanks again.

  • The swallow is soooooo cute!

Look at his eyes! So adorable!

I wish this was a true story.

  • :'(

  • i watched it as a little girl and it still brings tears to my eyes

  • a brilliant childhood memory revisited sob! sob! ta.

  • What memories this brought back. How sad yet happy at the same time. It never fails to get the tears rolling at the end!!! Many thanks for uploading this.

  • This is my favorite, I watch it every Christmas with my family, it sure knows how to tug on your heart strings. What a beautiful little story. And the songs have such great lyrics, they sound like they are being sung by angels. Peace

  • This is my all time favorite. I remember this as a little boy and makes me cry 40 years later.

    THE BEST

  • these cartoons are so beautiful in production, animation ,music but most of all the message is beyond beautiful tears of joy((((())))))))))

  • It still moves me now as much as it moved me when I was young...

  • The most beautiful, and little known story, in the world.

  • gracias por subirlo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
