  • Unfortunately, I never saw or heard Bjorling live. I was fortunate to hear the Swedish goddess Nilsson sing Salome and watch her dance with the seven veils at the old Met just before they closed it. It was my introduction to opera at a very young age.

  • What a chance to hear and see Jussi live!!! I missed two things in my life , to hear him and watch Nijinskij::))

  • My favourite recording by a brilliant artist

  • No one quite like him. I saw him at the Met a number of times after the war and what wonderful times they were, hard to describe, but sheer bliss will do. Oddly enough my mother saw him at the Met before the war, once with Sayao in Romeo and she said it was an unbelievable experience. Thanks for posting this aria, one of my most cherished.

  • Wow! You saw the great one! I had a chance on several occasions in Los Angeles in the 50s when i was a teenager but had other things on my mind. And your mother saw him with Sayao in Romeo. One of those radio broadcast of this greatpairing is preserved. I wish the met would start releasing some of those .
