i can't believe some people think this is one of Dio's worst albums..of course it doesn't sound anything like their 80's albums but they weren't trying to..they were moving forward and experimenting and also incorporated new sounds into their music..that doesn't make it a bad album they're still Dio...they weren't trying to sound like anyone else i like how they incorporated modern sounds yet still remained true and original to themselves
well if you follow the beliefs of christianity closely then the main theme is if you dont stand with us, then you are against us so get the hell out of the way. i.e. if you've been given the chance to be saved and you turn it down your actions are by default evil. I dont find it right either just saying its not retarded just a different view of the world, that's understandable [regardless of whether its right or wrong] if you actually try and understand.
@agentcamo / Good analogy. This lp took a while to wear on me when it first came out as it was completely different than Ronnie had done before. More industrial sounding.
Satanism=Agressive Atheism. We don't believe in ANY gods, but we do love to piss-off christians. They kind of have it coming.... dontcha think?
What, with all the torture and the sexual dysfunction... Even the Satanic Bible says, "Sex with any two CONSENTING ADULTS is permissable... no children, or animals, because they, CANNOT CONSENT..."
The Satanic Bible has more scruples than your average Catholic priest.... hmmmm...
@Paganguy1 or perhaps you just talked/typed a load of bullsh** and i actually do beleive in a god odin the viking god so i dont give a f*** im still pissing off christians and im lucky enough to have a stupid tw** who preaches in town who i can piss off i nearly got arrested once for drawing runes around him and asking odin to lightning bolt the tw**
@Paganguy1 dude ive never seen thor and never want too its a mockery to all that is viking and to be honest my ancestors where vikings and as for norse legends i actually do know quite a bt on the matter i just did a college project on it. by the way my reply was late because ive been busy at college.
Thanks 4 sharing. Not dislike video but words 2 the song. This song is about rejecting Jesus Christ at the crossroads. Love other Dio songs, but eternity is forever
You're not the only one that is bothered by the lyrics but likes the music. It hurts me to see so many people taught Christianity in an authoritarian manner without reason and as they get older they reject the faith entirely, sometimes even the very existence of God. It's very sad to me, especially considering the fact that their questions could have been answered and the fact that perhaps all they saw were hypocrites and people going through the motions, without love.
And what is LOVE, really? It's a silly word that means nothing and is realated to an Oxtocin chemical reaction in the brain. As a Rationalist, the word LOVE has no more meaning to me than the word "bread" or "polyvynil-chloride".
Evolutionarily, "LOVE" is something we developed to perpetuate the species, but it is a tool, nothing more. A very recent chemical reaction in our development.
Stop being a child. There are no believeable gods.
Okay and I think that love is real outside of chemical reactions. You don't have to necessarily have any kind of feeling. Self sacrifice is a quality of love. Helping someone even when you don't feel like it and don't have any such thing going on in your brain is loving. I think that we can all gather what love is someone from basic intuitions about moral good.
I have ample reason for my belief. Your insult shows your immaturity.
I see. What you are describing there is a "Social Contract" that existed long before words and exists in every social mammal. Perpetuation of the species requires rules just as any wolf pack, elephant herd, lion pride, or primate troupe, (which is what we are). As I said before, the words and the ideas of LOVE which is used to sell tacos and soap, mean nothing to Nature.
I have been married for 25 years, my marriage is successful because I see the truth and ignore fallacy.
I think love transcends nature (not that love is something that just exists in a Platonic sense) and it just being defined by how we turned out. If we had evolved differently I still think things like child molestation would be necessarily evil. I mean to say there is objective moral good from which love stems and we grasp it.
Furthermore WE are moral agents. Animals don't "murder"--things like this are what moral agents do. Moral good isn't just something that we have no obligation to follow. For me, as a Christian, the good reflects God from whom we have all things caused and the structure of all reality and so I think it is highly obligatory for us to follow this good.
For me it's morally good to care for person that isn't in my "pack" even if no one knows if I do or not.
Actually, animals do, in fact, "murder"... all the time. Chimps often eat other chimps, (our closest relatives), dolphins are racists, and often torture and drown other dolphins of differing species, (speckled, versus bottle-nose, for example), male tigers eat the young of other male tigers to display their dominance, etc... ad infinitum... the Natural World is full of horror and torment and you are a part of it.
Animals kill but they don't murder. They aren't moral agents and are therefore incapable of moral evils. Should we start throwing them in prison or decrying their evils? Of course not because that's absurd. Of course you're stuck with a problem about any objective moral duties or truths if for you we're only higher animals and nothing more.
Grade school symantics and fantasy-based hubris are your only arguments through this. It is tiresome. We are not even "higher" animals, there are thousands of species on the planet more fit to survive than we, and they will be here long, LONG after we are extinct. We are a "nothing", failed species of primate. A speck in geological history.
I repeat: We are social mammals, we obey rules like ALL social mammals, LONG before any words existed. No god or holy-books or "soul" needed.
I meant to say somewhat instead of "someone." I also don't deny our coming to grasp these things from evolutionary processes but I don't think that makes these things any less real. That's genetic fallacy.
I totally agree that Ronnie James(Padavona) DIO was amazingly smart, creative, highly intelligent, thoughtfully reflective, and a dreamer who saw the world differently than most. He was often underrated, and under appreciated by the media, and even at times, fellow musicians and others.
I love you, the VOICE and GOD of Metal for all time!
@Paganguy1: Absolutely 100 percent agree with that comment. Best comment I've ever read; and I couldn't have put it better myself! RIP Ronnie, loved, respected and looked up2; even for a shortie, such as myself! \m/
Ronnie was a great genius. A powerful mind. Analytical, and thoughtful. His music and His poetry were all based on that Scientific, rational, ideal.
He loved music and loved the stage, ("well I grew up quick and I felt the kick of life upon the stage..."), but he was so much smarter than most of his musical compatriots-- all through the 60's and seventies, and 80's, into the Millenium.... that He had trouble relating to the entire industry.
This is one of the best albums that Dio did when solo the only reson it didn't get any radio play is cause it's when altertive music was making it big even tho it had that sond all the bands that changed their sound to that
Styl wernt getting put on the radio and that's bulshit
@devildogdozer Yeah, this song is scary. Dio must have been either going through a dark period in his life around this time (what with Dehumanizer two years earlier, and Angry Machines two years later), or simply got fed up with plain 'ol rockin' out and decided to experiment with Sabbathian Doom Metal.
RIP RJD singer/songwriter/visionary Ronnie was the man! was the last 3 minutes 10 seconds a moment of silence for this man and his greatness? Love the lyrics of this song, he was so brilliant.
