Went to Tony's often as a kid. It hasn't changed. Still great food with enormous portions. I remember taking my son there years ago, and him asking Tony himself. " why is all the food so big ?" Tony's reply " I don't want you to leave hungey." I still stop at Tony's when I go to Mich ( about every year and a half). Of course it's not healthy food. You want healthy, go eat at subway !!!

I love meat. I eat at least a little over a pound of meat ('round half a kilo) of meat a day. Because I love meat, I am irk'd by people who even consider bacon a food nonetheless a meat to be eaten for more than free. Bacon is burnt fat pork that is greasy fatty poorly cut pork at best (not Canadian bacon). Bacon is the diamond of meat; common, bland and hard... made valuable through marketing. Burning fatty pork slices is a real skill and good taste appreciates that, sure. (sarcasm).

@Paulpunkrocks That's not a dig at the place. That is a dig at bacon. I understand commercialism and consumerism, part of why I am irk'd by the bacon infestation. I would love to visit Tony's, I plan to when I am 'round there. I just hate the idea that the bane of real meat (bacon) is the leader advetisment of this place and probably the dominating factor infecting the menu... like most places in the USA. I weep for our fat greasy tasteless descendents that don't know how real meat tastes.

@Paulpunkrocks I'm as serious as a heart attack, I had two (minor ones, no zipper on my chest and no implant). I love even fatty meat. Capacola in its various recipe's cut paper thin is like crack to me, especially if grilled in salted butter first. I love club sandwiches with butter-grilled toast and thick Italian dressing with a side of meat sauce to dip it in. To a meat eater like me, calling bacon a meat is akin to calling food "garbage." Bacon is only good for grease and rewarding pets.

I've traveled from Arizona to have a BLT at Tony's. LOL I have family in Alpena and a stop at Tony's is a family tradition when going from Detroit to Alpena and back.

cook a meatloaf seasoned to be a giant patty partially, then finish it with a hickory wood fire. get thick cut bacon and marinate it maple syrup for a night or two. and make a cheddar rue. the bun, one of those round instead of elongated challah loafs and light toast it then grill cut sides of the halves like for a grilled cheese. now thats an ultimate bacon cheeseburger. you should make a contest. it was be so hard to eat in one sitting, you would almost always have them pay full price.
