  • Nothing wrong with the a77, if you have good tape and calibrate it in a good way, you can't hear the difference between a cd and the tape........... so. yes you can make mastertapes with it.

  • If I am not mistaken, the Can albums between 1968-1974 were all recorded using two Revox A-77 Mk I deck synchronized together. On the first CD issue of Can's "Delay 68" there is an A-77 sitting behind Holger Czukay.

  • hi, what size tape does this machine play? also, is this a good machine to master down to? I record on 1/4 inch analog tape and was wondering what the best machine is to master down to

  • @shutdownthefed Hi! The A77 is only good for 1/4 zoll tapes. It´s a good machine but definitely not a master recorder! If you wanna produce mastertapes than you should use recorders like ReVox PR99, C270, STUDER A80, A810 or higher...

  • @technikfans thanks for the info man, I heard the tube mic preamps in it are good for recording...you think i should keep it just for that? I also just got a panasonic reel to reel and an akai m-8 reel to reel as well....do you know anything about those?

  • @shutdownthefed A77? Tube mic preamp?? The A77 is fully transistorised - there is no tube inside... :-) The last modell with tubes was the "ReVox G36". I don´t know what kind of sound you prefer. So just check it out if you like the sound - I do! :-)

Unfortunately I have no information about the Panasonic and Akai reel to reels.

  • @technikfans oh shit my bad, it was the akai m-8 that has the tube pre-amps. How much should I sell the a77 for? Its perfect condition and works perfect

  • @shutdownthefed Hi there! Just have a look at auctions on ebay and compare the prices there. I have seen prices between 150 and 800 Euro on German ebay. Could be that you can earn more on the us-ebay...

  • Es ist schon erstaunlich, in welch hervorragendem Zustand diese inzwischen 38 Jahre alte Maschine ist. Da kann man nur gratulieren, auch für die gute Pflege.

    Danke für das interessante Video.

  • You have some beauties there =) Great videos!!!

  • @TheDriveMaster Thank you! :-)

  • Age you can see on papst motors.

  • thank you for this video. Just bought my first recorder and trying to get the hang of it.....

  • Thank you and have fun with it! It´s a great recorder - you will love it! :-)

  • Thank you! Appreciate you putting this video up. You rule! Might you show how to do multi-track recording? I have a Mk I from '67-68. Just got it back from the technician. Works great.

  • @popatop Thanks a lot! yes I could do such a video. I will think about it ... ;-)

  • Coole Videos, gute Sache. :-)

  • Thank you very much for this video! Very nice machine. Have a nice day! Regards from Croatia!

  • You´re welcome! :-)

  • Very nice video on explaining the A77! You have a nice machine there. My A77 is an MK2 from 1969,the two track version, just like yours. I also have the original dustcover for it,but unfortunately I don't have that nice microphone:-D. Had the same problem with the left bearing. You could take it off the machine and put your SKF bearing in machine oil and leave it there as long as you wish. The results will make you happy:) Oh,that"dumy plug"-real mess if you don't have it!

  • I have seen your video, and the MKII is a very interesting recorder, too. Both of our videos are interesting I think. Because we talk about the same things but about a different MK-version... :-) So everybody can now compare between this two versions... :-)

  • I always enjoy watching your videos, and I must admit I love your accent! :D

  • Oh thank you very much- this means really a lot to me! But wich accent do you mean? Please tell me wich it is or what it sound like? I´m German and try to give my best. Maybe i´ts a mix between my school-english and something i have heard here on YouTube from USA... :-)

  • Yeah, the German accent. :) I'm Canadian and I don't think we have accents, but people from other countries say we do. :D
