  • what's the song at 1:06???

  • they should bring this back!

  • The Lagonda was (or is) basically a "jet" for the roadway. No wonder it is low in height. Look inside - a "laptop computer" dashboard!

  • Where's the piano thats supposed to fall on it at the end?

  • IF YOUR READING THIS THEN YOUR A CUNT!!!

  • This is the most beautiful sedan ever. Absolutely stunning coachwork. Congrats to Aston for their forward vision from so many decades ago - Well done! The equivalent in a two door GT is the Weigert Vector. Man!, how I would love both of these rides in my stable!

  • it's just 3 fucking boxes ...it'z pig ugly

  • what's the location?

  • the worst aston martin design, ever

  • That looks like Bosham (?)

  • I prefer the original V8 Vantage. I respect Aston for taking such a big risk, but personally I don't like the look of this car.

  • maybe they didnt sell many but this car made them famous again, if u were young in the 80's u will know that this car was famous

  • This is an acquired taste but I think I'm lucky it is a taste I have! Saw my first one in 77 wanted one ever since! I will have one someday much better than my EVO 8 . The tiny steering wheel and the drive for the size and weight is mighty impressive so if you don't like it fine less competition when I go to buy mine !

  • Not worthy of the Aston Martin badge...

  • @rock3tcat Gotta remember that the company had 4 different owners during the production run, it was a dark time not only in Aston Martins history, but automotive history

  • an ugly car

  • What's the background music that starts at 0:45 and ends at 1:05.

  • Comment removed

  • simply magnificent in every way. i dont care how it drives or not - marvellous.

  • I think it looks magnificent!

  • What's the song at 1:07???

  • A Lagonda for £15k - "now that's a risk worth taking..."

No it isn't! That's a guaranteed way to end up with a money pit that will chew you up and spit you out!

  • This car is so awesome in a sort of ugly way <3

  • Hate to say it, very very nice!

  • whats the song beginning at the start of the video, and stops at about 0:45?

  • Horrible car hahahah

  • I like it :)

  • It took a month to draw that? Looks like a giant stepped on it before they put the roof on, cars that 4th graders draw look better than that! New Astons are much better!

  • It's hideous. I can't belive i'm saying that about an Aston.

  • thats the ugliest car i've ever seen

  • My dad has got one

  • Aston Martin was always famous for building nice crap. Nice styling but they depreciate very quickly . Its the same with Maserati nice to look at, But I wouldn't what to own one. If you had the money Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes Benz much better buys and trust me you will be much happier.

  • @jonfleeger

You're talking out of your behind.

Ferrari and Lamborghini had the legendary Italian car syndrome and spent most of their time getting fixed by their owners. In the 80's there was a joke that if you buy a Ferrari you bought the engine, and the rest you got free of charge. Ferrari used cheap Fiat parts in their interior, and Lamborghini has changed owners 7 times. If not for investors they'd gone out of business long ago.

Buy a Porsche for reliability. Mercedes is correct too.

  • @jonfleeger

An Aston Martin DB5 in top condition will not depreciate thank you very much. They are worth a lot.

As for Maserati. Many of them like the 3500GT and "Birdcage" are collectables worth their weight in gold.

A Lamborghini a much better buy? The Miura kept going up in flames because the carburettors spewed fuel, the Countach had to have its carburettors tuned constantly, and none was ever driven very long by its owners knowing their constant reliability issues.

    Ignorant fool.

  • it looks all squashed lol, otherwise just a copy of volvo

  • i don't understand how anybody can say that they like this car. it's one of the most hideous cars ever designed!

  • It was a disaster (or so I hear), but I love the insane design and the lofi LED dash.

  • Is it wrong that I find this car akward, but still somehow got an erection from this car?

  • very very very great car! undoubtedly british

  • the Lagonda was as beautiful a car as ever resembled a pencil box.

Mechanically, it was a catastrophe. The company decided to build the Lagonda with a brace of cutting-edge, computer-driven electronics and cathode-ray displays, which would have been very impressive if any of them ever worked.

NASA couldn't have built this car, much less the heirs to Joseph Lucas,

Still, I'd kill to have one of these cars, and the O-scope and multi-meter to fix it.

  • The profile is absolutely beautiful. The rest, including the ineterior is disturbing to say the least. How a car's profile could be so sublime with the rest being so awful is almost sureal.

  • My dad has one but it had an electric fire

  • the most downright awful looking aston by far. even the old vanquish was a little too brash for my liking but this was almost as ghastly as a similar era cadillac.

  • Очень красивая машина,прям мечта!

  • Beautiful car :D

My favourite limousine since 1996, when I first saw it in a photo :)

Can somebody tell me what song starts at 3:14, and in the begining of this video?

    Thx :)

  • @ Banditenn

The song with the organ is:

The White Stripes - In the cold cold night

    From their album Elephant

It has Meg White on vocals!

  • I love that song! :D

Shit - I was thinking for a week what it is :D

    Thx man ! :D

  • search "aston martin lagonda estate" on google images it looks so funny

  • 0:06 Austin Allegro

  • that thing looks like a flattened caddy deville

  • beautifull, except for the exhaust - that's not nice.

  • Any idea what the song starting at around 2:00 is? Sounds kind of familiar...

  • Pink Floyd - Breathe

  • shame there aren't cars looking like this being made now, I'd love something like that, only with working electronics and an engine which gets more than 8mpg or w/e ;)

  • Favorite car. Hands Down

  • omg this thing is ugly

  • Probably the most beautifull sedan ever made.

  • seconded! Can't believe the brits drew this, looks like it came straight off an Italian's drawing board.

  • @TheMarcellox Totally agree with you. Fabulous ULTRA exotic super saloon. Absolutely outrageous, but beautiful and mega exclusive. Super wealthy only thank you!!

  • @TheMarcellox i think you need to get 1. your eyes checked and 2. your brain checked. this is probably the second ugliest car i have ever seen. (first is the vector w8 twin turbo)

  • @onthetableproduction thnx but i have had my eyes checked a couple of years ago together with the brain. Guess what, nothing's wrong. ;-)

  • @TheMarcellox Yes when I was a kid I was so impressed by that masterpiece.

  • @TheMarcellox Agree

  • A bit the same story of the Rover SD1:

Brilliant in its design, build rather poor...

  • sexiest car with 4 doors ever and such weird drive i want 1 or 2

  • The most stunning car in the world!

  • The one you buy for 15K Pounds, you will have to spend 50K Pounds just to get it going. Many of these cars were sadly totally neglected, thus the "junk-yard" price. Same sad story with the Lamborghini Espada, the most elegant (production) Lambo ever made. Although in my opinion the chassis alone, if not totally rusted, is worth the 15K.

  • However since the last one that rolled of the production line did so as recently as 1994, means that ALOT of the design faults had been addressed. If u were to buy a recent one... spend around 20K & you'll have a good one... thats IF u want one! lol

  • By 70's standards, this is bold. Remember that back in the 70's sports cars were already sleek yet 4 door saloons weren't. This is like the genesis of sleek 4 door saloons; The Mercedes CLS or Maserati Quattroporte of that time. This defined the future of the automobile industry. today, we can now get LEDs in most of our cars but back then, it was just ambitious.

This is probably the predecessor of the new Aston Martin Rapide.

  • I like the wheels but that's about it

  • did they make another version of this?? the one i saw had a wacko rear taillight arrangement...

  • Wow i miss old top gear

  • this is new top gear

  • I'm sorry, but the countach was the most shocking car on the road in 1976, and the Modulo was the most shocking concept car to date.

  • It's bold, but it's not disgusting. It may seem it but it can't quite get there.

It's more something you can have a chuckle over and I'm sure plenty of people would buy this car for a laugh.

I'd have it just for the giggles.

  • 35yearoldboy . Nice Try Sucker. I Can Speak What Ever I Like. This Democracy.

  • Copy Cat Volvo 850. Just Buy Volvo 850 Copy Cat Car.

  • what?!

  • it look like volvo more cheper. just buy volvo and think this car

  • Looks like Lincoln Towncar out of the crusher. Sounds nice though

  • At this point I would say "I wish I had this car"

but I'd say that to any car reviewed by topgear, because I don't have a car.

and don't you go telling me to get a job, I'm in the army, and NOT because I wanted to be.

  • I remember this car. When I was young there was one of this in a car retailer near to my home. I have passed whole days looking at this car. Very nice!!!

  • One of the worst cars ever built. Sadly. If you want an old, cheap, fabulous Aston from the time, go for the V8 Volante.

  • V8 Volante cheap? You must be joking. The straight 6 DB-S will be the cheaper cars from that era. The convertible Volante will always be a desirable and consequently expensive car.

  • The lagonda looks good

one of the best car designs ever.

  • What was exactly the problem with the electronics? Thank you very much for answering...

  • The electronice were, essentially, unreliable. The entire dashboard was electronic; no dials. This was a very early form of LED display (I know, D in LED = display) that would pack up often. When it did, it was very expensive to fix. Also, the touch-sensitive buttons often didn't respond. Even the gearbox selector (PRND21) was by touch button.

  • "A light-emitting diode (LED) (pronounced /ˌɛliːˈdiː/[1], or just /lɛd/), is an electronic light source. "

A quote from wikipedia. "display", right. :DD

  • AH, point taken. I mixed up the D in LCD (display) with the D in LED (diode, as you pointed out). In which case, LED display does read correctly, unlike LCD display.

  • A real dream car. One of the most amazing designs, in one of the most underrated cars ever made. I love since I was 18 ( I'm 40...) and met it in an american car magazine in Argentina. Pure passion...

  • I love it!

  • my dreamcar!!!

  • i hope ur kidding

  • haha. ugly. -> db9!! better one

  • DId you hear about the new Lagonda concecpt from Aston Martin? It's a bloody cross-over suv! That just pisses me off. All Aston Martin is doing is looking for a way to bring a POS cross-over to the market instead of something new and unique.

  • its not actually an aston its going to be a whole new brand. like a better land rover

  • For years, Victor Gauntlett (ex CEO) wanted to develop a super 4x4 that would be better than the Range Rover and he also wanted a cut price sports car. Aston eventually got the latter, with the DB7 but the 4x4 idea never progressed (interview with Gauntlett in 1987 CAR magazine on details of new Virage)

  • scary and amazing car !

  • A dreamcar: beautiful.

When this car came out people were stunned; it looked as if it came from mars or something.

Without the unreliable electronics it would have been a succes, i'm sure.

  • theres a difference between stunning and beautiful. Please, a ferrari dino is beautiful. this isnt. Unfortunately, to whoever thinks this car is beautiful has an incorrect opinion. its that bad

  • ...because your opinion os more valid than anyone else's, of course.

  • I have to agree with the first here. This car is fun to look at, but still ugly as hell.

    That said, it's absolutely fantastic.

  • I would never described this car as ugly. Striking, intriguing but not ugly.
