What an absolute joy to hear Joyce Jones playing this concert. If only more people could learn to appreciate the organ and the wealth of music composed for the king of instruments. Thanks to Trinity Wall Street Church for posting this video to YouTube.
What a great performance. I have had the privilege to be a guest in Dr. Jone's home and also play on the Ruffati organ at Baylor. I haven't heard her play in person for 20 years. What a great moment on Youtube to hear this talented woman. A true asset to the organist world. Thanks Joyce-- from a fellow TCU organ student.
I haven't had a chance to watch the entire video, so I haven't seen the "memory slip." Considering her age, Dr. Jones still displays the utmost poise while playing. This was really exemplified in her opening piece, as there is very little body movement, despite the demanding pedal passages. I finally had an opportunity to attend on of her workshops a few years ago, and Dr. Jones is a very humble and gracious person. Thank you Dr. Jones for your many years of spreading God's gift of music!
WOW! Dr. Jones is fantastic throughout this vid, but OUCH! that Sowerby piece (pageant) she played in the beginning is an awfully freakin fast performance!
As a native Texan myself I love this genuine lady's elegant and kind spirit which is more than made evident in her little introductory speech. Such incredible ' footwork ' and so light on her feet too - - like she's verily running over the pedals. As far as her losing her place for a moment or two.....for all we know Bach could have lost his place on occasion every now and then as well....but then there are no digital reordings, nor camera shots of that are there? Bravo, our good fellow Texan.
Tell me that this woman is not a musical genuius, and I will show you someone so full of themselves that they have no concept of what a musical genius really is!!! Being from Texas, I really appreciate the incredible musicianship, yet humble, kind spirit that this gentle woman brings to the organ world - she does our fair state proud.
Even with the memory slip in the Bach, who among us could improvise our way through so convincingly most people would never know.
no sheet music, and its an hour long complex masterpiece. This organist is a monster! 10 stars and favourited

Is the Sowerby her opening piece with the pedal work?
gordoncree 10 months ago
The Sowerby is too fast to start with and riddled with errors. You've got to have this piece down pat or not bother with it at all.

The Liszt Fantasy and Fugue on the chorale Ad nos, ad salutarem undam, amazes me each time I hear it. Seeing Ms.Jones perform it adds even more.

Indeed very very fast, but a superb organist.

@Capricornboy Maybe she just saw Cameron Carpenter play something on the pedals...he's no slouch either, but about half her age...lol!
