Ahhhhhhhhhh ohmyholywow HOW FREAKIN BEAUTIFUL IS MICK!!! At the start, when he cracks that amazing smile.... Ahhh he's just soooo hot!!!!!
And loveeee how Mick and Keith (HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEEEEEF) sing out of the same microphone here - love it when they do that!! Stones and Glimmer Twins forever!!!!!!
Wow, they sound great here. Mick and Keith sound great singing together, Keith's backup adds a lot. I wish he'd still sing live. And Mick Taylor's lead guitar is superb!
wow, its been a while since a man could get away with wearing a crop-top open-chest two-sizes-too-small glitter vest and not immediately lose all dignity. those were the days xD
I don't know if there is more pure rock and roll...than when Mick Jagger and Keith are singing on the same mic, and Mick Taylor is responding in the background. I love the stones and they can still rock harder than almost all the groups out there now...but they were at their best from 69-73.
For a good cover of "Dead Flowers," search Clement Stephens or view my page.
Mick Taylor, Don Rich (was w/ Buck Owens), and Pete Anderson (was w/ Dwight Yoakam) are my favorite guitarists. Mick Taylor's technical expertise is so similar to Don Rich.
9th song off the Stones' best album Sticky Fingers. This is my favorite song on the album(the lyrics sum up the lifestyle they were leading), the rest are all gems as well.
@washbrook45 I agree that Brian Jones was definitely more of an influence on the band than Mick Taylor. But for me, I prefer the band's sound with Mick Taylor, which was more melodic and pleasing to the ear.
Mick Taylor was (is) a brilliant musician. Look at him on the stage you will see one of the finest guitarists of all times. His finesse, talent and good musical taste are outstanding. But... unlike Ron Wood, he was never a genuine Rolling Stone...
One can make the conclusion that the Stones were never the same after Taylor left, while one can say that Buck Owens lost that spark when Don RIch died in the motorcycle crash, and finally Dwight Yoakam lost that edge when he parted ways with Pete Anderson.
This is how legends are made. Over the course of time, for one reason or another, the Stones made many crucial fuckups (e.g., Get Your Ya Yas is a bullshit documentary of what their 69 prowess and there is nothing documenting their '72 US tour de force) but somehow this moment was captured and Taylor rises to the fxcking occasion. In fact, this track may be the finest example of the dude's prowess next to the MSG Jagger birthday show ...
@herbbirdsfoot it is not a competition, Mick Taylor played great guitar with stones and they played and wrote some great tunes. Listen to "Casino Boogie" that's a great tune and good guitar playing from everyone.
Thanks Mick for this mean break up song...the Queen of the Underground until you married Bloody Bianca....But we had some really good times in my flat in Mayfair....

@erk7xl - yup. keef is the MAN. but Brian Jones, Mick Taylor, and Ronnie Wood, have been vital. Keef is one HELL of a song writer - and I have always called him the ultimate rhythm guitarist, he's not a lead player though.
the stones were jackals in their youth. mick and keith grabbed the writing royalties right off the bat and left brian (the originator of the group) out in the cold. then keith took anita away from brian. THEN brian hit the drugs (who can blame him) and then he conveniently died.
music is a dirty business. underneath the glitter is maggots.
@bangbors They wrote the songs, of course they got the royalties. I write, not music, but I'm not ever going to share royalties with someone who binds the book no matter how good a job he does. He gets paid for that, and Brian was not poor. If his ego couldn't except the fact that these guys were better front man material and also had better song writing skills than I can't blame Mick and Keith for that.
@bangbors the reason why the grabbed the royalties was that they wrote the songs, not brian. brian founded the band, but drifted off somewhere. although he was great in his way
taylor made keith look bad every night. that's why he was booted. he played circles around richards. richards is like robert plant, not the most accomplished of guitarists, but great song writers. same with townshend. lots of guys can outplay them, even in my school, but they are true artists and those don't grow on trees.
Keith richards, in fact, quite possibly, the greatest R n' B guitarist to ever live. but i definitely agree that keith is a true artist. but no one can play like him or townsend. they might play faster, like mick, but not with the groove of keef or pete.
@bangbors don't matter who plays fast or slow. noone's playing sounds like keef's, he's who the stones owe their slapass laid-back sound to. mick was great for the stones and yes, he did bring them forward musically. but mick had one big drawback - he didn't rock with the stones. i'm 58 an i remember the comments at the time. towards the end of the mick taylor era fans were beginning to call out for a harder stones sound than mick could produce. ronny wood can do that

You can see who Mick Taylor is at this clip. He is one of the best blues player in human history. I think he can compete with Jimi, Stevie, Eric, Roy and any one.
@TheMALT211 - do your homework kid. Brian Jones was the first lead guitarist for the Rolling Stones, he died. He was replaced by Mick Taylor, who was with them from '69 to '74, and some of the Stones best stuff was written with him. He was replaced by Ronnie Wood, who is still with them. The line-up didn't change again until original bassist Bill Wyman left in '92. People often refer to different periods of the music by the different guitarists that played on it.
Thanx Keith for being who you are, I mean, falling of palmtrees and snorting the ashes of you Dad and beating idiots off stages with your guitar. Without you, life wouldn`t have been so amusing.... thanx for all the enjoyment and the musical inspiration you gave to me over the years...may you live forever...
mick and keith are the Rolling Stones period... if you want a gnarly solo go listen to yngwie malsteen or something. Rock n Roll is an attitude and no guitar player has had more attitude than Keith.
Keef is the heart of the stones. this band is completely driven by rythym guitar.WE have enough players (page tayler etc etc.) who can overplay solos.
@bustedup don't forget it was ronnie played on all rod stewart's biggest hits. he's the only one around who knows how to weave with keith (which the admittedly very talented mick taylor had problems with). generally i think ronnie's more a stone than mick was.
Stones made great music and it seems that their best music was between '68 and '75. Yes that includes Brian's last year when he wasn't too productive so Mick and KR did it all. After that MT was the right musician at the right time.
@bushface1327 ....Go back another four years or so and we are in agreement.....to overlook the years that produced....'Let's spend the night together', 'Satisfaction' 'It's All over now' not to mention the endless brilliant album tracks with Jones is a little remiss to say the least.
that's sandra berndhart!! A band isa team effort. Every musician is an integral part to the sound. No indiidual is above the song being performed. By themselves, the parts amount to nothing. This is evident in the number of combined hits Jagger and Richards and Taylor have had in their solo careers: ZERO.
@ThinkingApe3000 Yeah, I guess that's why Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr never had any solo hits after the Beatles broke up.
@bucklerfoxton yes they did. george landed well with my sweet lord, john went to write imagine, woman is the niogger of the world and a few more top 10 hits, and paul founded wings, which was a hard-hitting rockband in the 70s - in many ways better than the beatles.
even ringo had back of boogaloo and a couple of others.
true though, none of the stones alone ever had a hit
Actually Jagger's solo Wandering Spirit went to #11 in '93, and Keith's Talk Is Cheap and second album went top forty. People probably bought their solo albums in fewer numbers because they knew they'd eventually get another Stones album; meanwhile the Beatles solo albums were all anyone was going to get.
Brian formed the Stones and without him there might not have been a Mick and Keith as we know them, Brian did himself no favors by , as Charlie says, "Being into the excesses that did him in," When Mick came along the band grew into what I think was it's glory years. He could make a guitar cry and sing. When he left the Stones were in disarray. Bill later said Ron Wood saved the band because of his enthusiasm towards the band and all its members. He literally brought the band back together,
So many assertions regarding the time Taylor played in this band!
I think that most great guitarists would shine playing lead with the Rolling Stones.
Especially in that period between Brian Jones and Ron Wood.
Mick, Keith, Bill and Charlie, being what remained of the band once Brian died, had established their song-writing prowess and sound, and were . . . . well, they were the Rolling Stones.
No explanation or opinion necessary - now and especially, back THEN.
Begger's Banquet and Let it Bleed, arguably the bands most prolific and quintessential recordings, were, but for minor contributions by Jones and Taylor, a showcase for the genius of Keith Richards. He is ALL OVER those records. Laying down track after track of guitar, like so much kindling for a fire.
The Stones could have done a fab four and retired to the studio to produce their music, and never toured again.
between the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. The statement made by the Stones producer on the back of their first album, " . . . not just a band, but a way of life.",
was not merely public relation$.
It was fact.
The energy that set them apart was not for sitting in studios.
When Jagger and Richards brought Taylor in, it was like adding the sweetest frosting to delicious cake.
Their live shows were brilliant. They were at the peak of their abilities.
All opinion and assertion aside - Previous to each of the two occasions this band chose a new guitarist, they had already established a gold mine of music.
No one could have replaced the Brian Jones of '64-'68, but replacing him was not the band's intent.
When Taylor left and Howie Mandell & Wayne Perkins, among others, 'auditioned' for the band - the result was 'Black & Blue'.
Yes, Taylor was the guitarist that Jones wasn't. He'd still be there if that weren't ALL he was.
When he left, Mick and Keith wanted a guitarist that was into being a Rolling Stone. Rod Stewart wasn't happy about it, but they found what they wanted.
Beast of Burden is one of my favorites. Listen too, to the 'Live Aux Abbatoirs Paris 1976' stuff on youtube for some great Ron Wood/Keith interplay.
During this period....Mick Taylor WAS the Stones......just ask Charlie Watts, who also stated that the "playing with him are musically some of the best things we've ever done"....
I don't believe for a second that the Stones albums during this
epic rock and roll country. yet the sparkly half shirt remains a mystery...

mick and keith are the Rolling Stones period... if you want a gnarly solo go listen to yngwie malsteen or something. Rock n Roll is an attitude and no guitar player has had more attitude than Keith.

Keef is the heart of the stones. this band is completely driven by rythym guitar.WE have enough players (page tayler etc etc.) who can overplay solos.

Ronnie Wood is not a bad guitarist, but M.Taylor did more for the Stones in just a few years than what Ronnie's done since he joined in the mid 70s
bustedup 1 year ago 2
@bustedup don't forget it was ronnie played on all rod stewart's biggest hits. he's the only one around who knows how to weave with keith (which the admittedly very talented mick taylor had problems with). generally i think ronnie's more a stone than mick was.

Stones made great music and it seems that their best music was between '68 and '75. Yes that includes Brian's last year when he wasn't too productive so Mick and KR did it all. After that MT was the right musician at the right time.
bushface1327 1 year ago
@bushface1327 ....Go back another four years or so and we are in agreement.....to overlook the years that produced....'Let's spend the night together', 'Satisfaction' 'It's All over now' not to mention the endless brilliant album tracks with Jones is a little remiss to say the least.

that's sandra berndhart!! A band isa team effort. Every musician is an integral part to the sound. No indiidual is above the song being performed. By themselves, the parts amount to nothing. This is evident in the number of combined hits Jagger and Richards and Taylor have had in their solo careers: ZERO.
ThinkingApe3000 1 year ago
@ThinkingApe3000 Yeah, I guess that's why Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr never had any solo hits after the Beatles broke up.

ThinkingApe3000 1 year ago
@bucklerfoxton yes they did. george landed well with my sweet lord, john went to write imagine, woman is the niogger of the world and a few more top 10 hits, and paul founded wings, which was a hard-hitting rockband in the 70s - in many ways better than the beatles.
even ringo had back of boogaloo and a couple of others.
true though, none of the stones alone ever had a hit
matty6345 1 year ago

But therein lies the biggest difference

between the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

Fantastic guitar on that record.
