  • Global warming, really? Holy shit, some people will fall for anything.

  • You need to give them a day or two to scab over after cutting them before planting them, or you will wind up with root rot and yuck. :-/

  • You go girl, keep doing what you're doing. You remind me of my sister; bright and outgoing. She and I have been veg gardening for the last few years and love it and our families appreciate it.

Glad you don't let the haters bother you, global warming is happening, whether man made or not, scientific proof to back up the claim that these goofes tend to ignore.

    Always remember, GARDENING IS SEXY!!!!!!!!

  • I find youtube comments depressing.

  • Dude... shes so hot.... I'd tap that.

  • so many trolls

  • my mom asked me to watch this lol

  • Bull shit...you cant just grow your own potatoes! They are made by the leprechauns in ireland!

  • Great video!

I will join you in the fight against GW and corpotate poisoned food!

  • I really don't understand how people think global warming is a myth... it's science.. we are producing to much carbon dioxide , and when all our forests are being cut down we no longer have enough green to take in the carbon dioxide and put out oxygen. I also thinks it's funny that people are watching these videos but then make comments on what's shes doing wrong.. why are you watching if you already know how to do it..

  • @tkdartistmom Global warming isn't exactly because we're producing too much CO2. It's because the CO2 we produce contains free radicals (an atom with an unbalanced electron, making it unstable, that destroys other atoms it comes in contact with).

The earth itself (i.e. volcanoes and other things) produce a waaay more CO2 than we do, but trees and whatnot are able to recycle it. We contribute to global warming, we just haven't observed it long enough to know exactly how much we're contributing.

  • rofl @ global warming

  • So many garden video makers forward the notion that "you don't have to bend over" because it's a raised bed. Stop it. Unless you raise the bed 3 to 4 feet high for wheelchair access or standing height, you have to bend over constantly. Do this test. Stand a 12 inch ruler against a wall. Can you reach it while standing up? No? Then you are bending over.

  • Was interested untill you pulled the global warming bullshit..bye bye.

  • but a sead potato is a normal potato, theres nothing different about it

  • Gread videos! Where do I get the seed potatoes from? TY

  • I was always told me not to cut the potato and immediately plant it because the odds of rot increased. instead you should let the potato sit on a tray for example till the open side "scabs over" then plant it.

  • i thought they were suposed to sit for 2 days for them to scab over the cut and then plant them eyes up?

  • you should have let them dry for a couple of days to develop a skin on the cut side.

  • heh small tool...

  • Better to let the cut pieces dry for two days before planting

  • Every video tells you how to plant potato's but no one tell's you when! When?

  • her potatoes will rot because she didnt dry them

  • What is the material on the surface of the planter box

  • Great Vid!

  • Lovely and interesting video. Excellent, entertaining and amusing series.

One wishes that the nice folks making comments could either be coherent or capable of completing a sentence in standard English at better than a second grade standard.

  • @GoldenEars69 Look around the planet and in the ocean, scientist confirm it, GW is causing havoc around the world right now.

  • @Veganit Look at the oceans?? GW is causing HAVOC? that explains why the Global Warming GURU himself bought a mansion in California right on the ocean. Al Gore says if all the polar ice melts the oceans will rise 20 plus feet. Scientists also confirm we have had a temperature decrease in the past 5 years. Global Warming is a hoax to tax CO2..which the tree's use to make oxygen. Even if they did Tax CO2 what will they spend the money on?

  • @Kikkins SERIOUSLY you don't notice that the winters are getting shorter.

  • @pankakesforlife Winters getting shorter??? where the hell do you live? I'm in New Hampshire and the winters are still winters here. I just don't understand how people will believe anything...even when proven wrong. Winter begins December 21st and ends March 20th. How are winters getting shorter. SERIOUSLY.. Even NASA scientists have stated that the past 5 years the temperature overall has dropped.

  • @Kikkins well around here in Sweden were getting warmer winters with less snow. and global warming causes extreme weather both warm and cold.

  • Global warm is a myth like people have said. Think about it. There is only 35 years of oil left in the world at current consumption rates. But now think of China's emerging growth. This will cut that 35 years down to only 20 years. Peak oil is the deadly risk to the world not the made up GW that will take centuries to effect us even if it was real. The world is a living breathing organism. It has a 65 000 year cycle. Warming and cooling during that time.

  • Global warming is not man made. Earth changes. Sun changes.

  • CAN we use cow manure put it with the potato then add the soil?

  • Thank you so much for this very useful information.

  • I did not know you could cut up seed spuds to make more THANK YOU !

  • Thanks for the video! I'm planting potatoes for the first time down here in texas and this was helpful to see. Ignore the anti-science crowd, they're loud, but boy are they dumb. I'm planting a victory garden against climate change/industrial agriculture! I love it.

  • Patti, you are totally hot! Just throwing that out there. Gardening is totally sexy! lol

  • they can't even tell us with certainty if it's going to rain next friday, but you have such faith in them you believe they can predict 'GLOBAL WARMING" (and I bet you believe Al Gore really invented the internet too)

  • victory against GW? HELL NO THATS A HOAX!

BUT WE DO WIN AGAINST THE NEW WORLD ORDER GROWIN OUR OWN FOOD AND NOT POISONING OUR SELVES WITH GM SHIT!

  • @theamazingplant2 GW a HOAX??? ur an idiot! you really think we can palute the worlds air and ocean ith no bad effects? you dont want to believe this so you dont...keep lieing to urself and you will kill the planet, but easy to dismiss cuz u probably wont be hear when it happens. It will happen if people like you dont wise up and take your head outa your butt. now apologize to our planet and get a hybrid or ride a bike, butthead :p

  • @1HughGRection4U I agree with your comment. Your use of insult and improper grammar and spelling make you look less intelligent and thus demean your endorsement of this issue.

  • @briankangaroo Thank you for your reply. I have developed bad habits typing in text lingo. Point well taken. I will work on it.

  • @1HughGRection4U I was surprised by your congenial reply. Now I feel bad for being a bit antagonistic. Cheers!

  • @theamazingplant2

Don't be a flat earther dude!

Being against cap&trade is one thing...and I can even(though I don't agree) understand how some people can be sceptical about that we as humans are the main contrbutor to GW.

    BUT...

If you don't think GW is happening you are on the crazy train to koko land!

Do you know how many diffrent institutions/companies/universities ect that meassure temperature INDIVIDUALY? To think that all those are in on a conspiracy is naive to put it mildly:)

  • Seed potatoes are regular potatoes unless you got some nasty hybrid GMO garbage. They didn't even cut it up for you lol. I hope they did charge extra.

You can grow great potatoes from regular potatoes, that's how potatoes have been doing it for a long time : )

If you build up dirt on the stems as they grow and keep a few inches of green on top you will get many times the yield. You can use old tires or whatever around them and keep putting on new ones as it grows filling them with dirt.

  • why for global warming? It is fake didn't you hear?

  • I can tell you cutting seed potatoes and planting them directly in the ground is the worse thing you cant do. You only harvest about 25% of your pototoes if you dont cure them first before planting. Most of them rotted in the ground because of this. This has been documented from The Ohio State UnAg offices. Shes just reading from a script obviously. Dont anyone plant potatoes in this manner

  • @mglock23 i'm planting some spuds this within a week or two. i havent done it before, i was just going to slice off the seeds and put them in the ground. what do you mean by curing them?

  • can i do that to a Potato that my mom buys?

  • What kinds of day/night temperatures are you getting at this time of year? What zone are you?

  • im pumped. for the first time ever, i planted potatoes in november of '09 and just yesterday i harvested some golf ball sized and quarter sized potatoes! roasted them and they tasted so good. very important to keep hilling up dirt up against the plant as it grows. some of the smaller potatoes grew inside the hill.

  • why do you have hay over the dirt?

  • @Sweetpickledhearts keeps them warm and prefents frost dammage

  • @markcumbriauk, this is in the spring smart one!!!!!

  • Surplus nitrogen and phosphorus from fertilizer runoff, animal manure, soil erosion and sewage have created a dead zone of more than 7000 square miles in the Gulf of Mexico near the mouth of the Mississippi River. the U.N. reported nearly 150 dead zones throughout the worlds oceans in 2007

  • Too Bad,Well Not Really,Global Warming Or Climate Change Or Whatever You All Might Call That Load Of Garbage Is A FRAUD!!!,HAHAHAHAHA!!!.

  • Yes that MIGHT be true but we are polluting the earth with all the toxic stuff we dump on it.

More than 80 percent of the male smallmouth bass in the Potomac River are growing eggs.

  • some 3 million people a year suffer from severe pesticide poisoning. Pesticide exposure can lead to cancer, birth defects and damage to the nervous system. Drinking water contaminated by pesticide runoff is a main source of exposure.

  • Excess fertilizer use and runoff causes eutrophication in waterways which threatens animal and plant health. The surplus nutrients stimulate excessive plant growth, such as algal blooms, which consume nearly all the available oxygen in the water and cause other plants and animals to suffocate.

  • Ha! I love gardening, but im not a sucker for the whole GW hoax! :-D

  • @RaceAcer60

    such an intelligent comment.

  • then i might plant mine like 2 meteres deep i would get so many ahaha

  • Thank you for your invite! I love your videos and appreciate your sharing all this information with all of us. This day you have blessed me with your friendship., thanks again.

  • What the hell is that bitch talking victory garden agianst global warming?

  • global warming is a crock of shit.

  • FOR REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  • @EricSepulveda

98% of climatologists disagree. But I'm sure you know better, yeah, what a crock of shit! Rabble, rabble, rabble.

  • Great vid....can't wait to try potatoes this year!!

  • Global Warming??

  • @rosuabsc

it's the steadily heating of our world as a result of our irresponsible industrial activity.

  • That was informative. thanks

  • "global warming" doesn't really exist, its just a hoax invented by the corporations and their puppet Al Gore to scare the masses into doing their bidding.

  • @shadowhog777

you think Gore invented global warming? It's actually been studied for decades. He just saw it as an issue worth fighting for and he's spread the word rather well. Politics today are so divisive that one side will actually take an anti-science stance just to disagree with the other. It's pathetic.

  • god i love your dirt

  • For those of you out there that have never grown "taters" before, you do want to start with good seed potatoes. But don't worry if you don't do everything perfect, its easy to get good results. Most rookies grow some pretty good taters. IT's easy, fun, and you will be glad you did it. Also if you have any little kids to "help" you with them, they will think its fun too.

  • she would bend over if i was there. XD

  • Wowza! Fantastic vidski! I'll tell you guys what...Just yesterday i got some amazing gardening supplies at brilliant prices from PlantMeNow! google it!

  • you dont need to buy seed potatoes unless you are in a hurry. Just buy a potato, seat it in a shade part of your house for 2weeks of more and then it will begin to spout into a "seed potato". Then do the cutting as showed in this video.

  • yes, but some are sprayed at the stores to prevent growth, so it wont work.

  • stuck some sprayed potatoes in a dresser draw so my wife wouldn't use them. took about a month but they started to sprout . that spray is a retarder and not a sprout killer. grew potatoes from them. I guess monsanto didn't figure this one out yet

  • psh go to walmart! i bought potatoesfor eating but all of them just sprout on me-.-

  • LOL that made me laugh.

  • Thank you. That's what I thought.

  • folk, about the potatoes, it's always better to let them dry for about 24hrs. after cutting the slips, and don't forget to plant them with the eye UP

  • yes, i noticed she planted them right after cutting....that was bogus.

  • Very interesting. I've not tried potatoes yet. I think I will get even more information with yours and start some next year.

  • VICTORY?? HELL YEAH! not against global warming! against the corperations that are genetically modifying all our veggies and charge ridiculous prices! in OZ we are seeing unprecedented prices! i mean 5 dollars every 2 kilos [ 4.4pounds roughly ]!!! and coles/woolworths own 70 percent of all supermarkets! its a shocker!! they are pricefixing hardcore! the corperate corruption is unbeleivable here!!! down with the new world order!!!

  • @bushdidit2u911 ... looks like the globalists are closing in on all of us sheep, they control our governments, they force us to buy where they want through regulation, their corporations own the media and entertainment. They contribute to our colleges and buy the agenda and even management so they can get to our kids.

That's what we get with big government control, when we allow that it means that we have put ourselves up for sale, and we have been bought.

Global Warming is a fraud, part of it

  • @bushdidit2u911 Not surprised! New world order is affecting not just the food chain, but medical , financial , freedom etc. On a different note, is that hay above the soil?

  • @belle0074

it's Straw. Hay contains a lot of seeds that can sprout into weeds that take resources away from the veggie plants and be a general pain in the ass.

Whatever you're reasons, keep up the urban gardening!

  • @bushdidit2u911...screw you and your hatred for the New World Order. It's here to stay. The New World order loves you. It feeds you, clothes you, gives you employment. And all you do is complain against your luxury western lifestyle. If you hate it so much, go live in North Korea you fu.knob

  • @Jaminetdotcom The New World Order is not being done by the people's choice. Go live in North Korea..is pretty lame. It would be the same as we have here. The United States of America is Not a Democracy system...It is founded on a Republic.....and to the Republic for which it stands. But I'm sure you have not pledged the flag in many years. 2/3 of Americans want out of Afghanistan, our government cares less. The government is a hijacked organization run by the big banks.

  • You planted Yukon Gold (an early variety) the same was as Russet (a late variety) but they really should be treated differently. The Yukons only give potatoes in the top 6 inches of soil so will do well in your beds. The Russets should be buried deeper as the stalks come up so they will grow more tubers from new roots higher up on the plant.

Also, "Seed Potatoes" are just potatoes. The first time you plant, get starters because they are organic and virus free.

    Don't reuse the soil carelessly.

  • Yep, global warming is a psuedo-scientific fraud. Climate change is just the new name they are using because people dont believe in GW anymore...

  • no such thing as global warming, sweetie. it's a modern myth.

  • its a modern scam not a myth

  • climate change is real. Global warming is an inaccurate name.

  • Global Warming is measurable and non-debatable. It has been going on for thousands of years. What is debated is whether the 50 billion gallons of carbon we dump into the atmosphere each year is escalating the natural cycle into a runaway global catastrophe. The correct term is AGW - "Anthropogenic Global Warming".

  • regardless of the name, its happening. :(

  • humans have an effect, no doubt. just a very small effect that it barely matters. doesn't mean we shouldnt be energy efficient and clean. cuz we should. we should have electric cars at the very least.

  • Read up... 450 parts per million of CO2 is a critical tipping point at which our marine animals with shells or bones will start disolving into their acid environment... and we're going to have trouble avoiding that concentration. This effect is already being observed with coral etc being much thinner than it was generations ago.

  • How can global WARMING have been going on for "THOUSANDS OF YEARS" when we had a LITTLE ICE AGE IN 1500'S?

U truly have no clue of history!

  • Gregg Braden talks about precession, our position in the galaxy, and the cyclical effect on our global warming and cooling cycles. The precession cycle is 12,500 years. Check it out.

  • @WoundedEgo ... they count CO2 as carbon lol, and it's debatable whether even the official numbers on that are not a fraud. What you don't hear about is how much "carbon" is naturally produced and that the variables in natural carbon estimates are thousands of times what humans can even loosely be attributed to contributing. When the variable is thousands of times the amount they are saying causes global climate change, it's like saying farting the wrong way in a Hurricane could make it worse.

  • @WoundedEgo !true!

  • Go to Europe and say that! They've been acting to reduce emissions for decades. Read the IPCC Physical science review for a conservative summary of what the scientists have been looking at for decades.

Then ask yourself if there was only a 1% chance that climate change was real... would it be worth addressing? (higher incidence of strong storms, problems with agriculture etc). Not to mention that most fossil fuel use is associated with carcinogins. Honestly, we're better off without them.

  • I just harvested my potatoes (were the worst potatoes ive ever tasted) Thanks for making these videos there very helpful!!!!

  • Thanks. Potatoes are good for their bulk, that helps fill you up easy. Though they are basically harder to cook than other veggies, unless shredded first like carrots.

  • i usually deep fry or boil them before i actually cook them with other stuff. makes your life easier

  • Potatoe's are excellent for clearing grown they make it richer for the next veggie that you intend to plant . when i build a new veggie bed i always use Potatoes first for cleaning the soil for my next veg. i'm in heaven with my rised bed's. as i get older my rised bed's get higher lol!. thank you for sharing with us. ;-)

  • what i heard was that potatoes make the soil un usuable, and you cant keep growing potatoes using the same soil. thats what caused the irish to immagrate to america cus their main food was dying off

  • @winnzhang I've read that potatoes are a heavy feeder....so you need to either rotate the crops or add manure and/or compost.

  • Global warming? It's called the S-U-N.

  • That's rediculous. How could the sun heat the earth. Besides all of the other planets have been getting hotter, so we know the people on them have been producing too much polution...

  • Dang! I forgot about the people on other planets and their 3 mpg super size suv's stinking up the stratosphere of the superfluous planets. My bad.......LOL.

  • lol yeah i blame the martians and there gas guzzler ufos

  • saving regular potatoes for seed can spread disease.

you can start potatoes early by chitting them. chitting means presprouting. put the seed potatoes in a sunny window so the eyes start growing sprouts. then just make sure you don't knock the sprouts off when you plant them. they'll be up in no time.

  • my raised bed for my potaotes / onions is 4x8 and triple high. I should get alot of potatoes. :)

  • you can build the bed up to about 4' and have a heck of a lot of taters in a 4x4x4 box...

  • cant you use ragular patatoes

  • Hi. I am thinking in preparing my backyard to start planting potatoes, green peppers, tomatoes, etc. But it is kindda full of grass & weeds. How do I get rid of that so that there is nothing else but dirt iin the ground? Is there a good hand tool I can use effectively? I can not afford powertools, so Im gonna have to stick to handtools. Can anyone help me out please & tell me what to use and do? Thanks.

  • You need a garden fork or or spade ( shovel in the US I think). Dig the whole area over, removing roots and weeds. Then rake the area with- you guessed it a rake! You want the soil to be as fine as possible to plant in.

You need a hoe to keep down weeds too.

There ya go- a fork, a rake and hoe. All you need.

  • Hi. Thanks for the reply. I got me exactly all the things you mentioned. We removed most of the weeds(we are half way through now). Can you use regular potatoes from the grocery store? I have a few inside of a paperbag & they now look good like the seed potatoes kind. Thanks.

  • All the gardening books say you shouldn't but I've used ordinary potatoes before and they worked fine.

My grandad reckoned he grew pototatoes from just left over potatoe peelings during the depression in the 1930s, but he coulda been fibbing.

I'm gonna wait till times are really really hard before I try.

  • Well, I will try it & I will make a video & see if it works. Thanks a lot.....

    Check this video;

    watch?v=vmzEWU2FIww

  • It is possible for potatoes to grow from the peelings . You shouldn't put the peelings into your compost as they can sprout .

  • Hi, An easy way to get rid of grass and weeds is to go by some place like Lowes that sell refrigerators, etc. and ask for the flattened boxes (they are huge), mow the area, throw down the cardboard, wet it down, and after a bit, no more anything, just dirt and sometimes worms. Do not use close to the house as it attracts termites. I use it on the bottom of my SFG and u can put straw over it too or plant over it. =)

  • We just pull them off the best we could with a hoe, but we couldnt get them all. We already planted onions, lettuce, beans, tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, corn, culantro, cabbage, strawberries, potatoes, eggplants, pumpkings, watermelons & tomatoes. I thinks thats all we planted. But the damn weeds keep growing 50 times faster than the actual vegetables plants...lol.

I will sure try that next year before I start planting. Maybe in winter right before it snows. I'll make a video soon. Thanks. ;)

  • lol or...just place your raked leaves over the place...grass will die also.

  • a victory that glodal warming is not real, but a scare tactic. I not being rude, but political agendas should be left out of gardening

  • If you believed it was real, you would reject any assertion that it is a political agenda... and you would probably believe that it is a scientifically identified problem that needs multiple solutions. In fact, most people who believe that it is real(most people not in America) are concerned about it& get pretty sick of it being a political football - we would rather see some practical solutions being implemented.

  • I live in a country with moderate temperature (25- 35 degrees) and no seasons. Is that OK?

How long must I wait before harvesting?

  • that just gave me an idea!!!

  • so pati.. are you best friends with all the veggitarians in the neighborhood yet? Btw, I bought some worms for my indoor container plants! (After watching your composting video). I hope it'd work swell for the little indoor space i can grow. Would let you know on it! Peace woman!

  • good job

  • This is good info.. for when they try to starve us out or force gm poison on us

  • see, I would have eaten the seed potatoes. so thanks for the tip. =)

going ALL out this year. Victory! thanks for your tips!

  • THANK YOU Garden Girl! really great video! well done and informative :)

  • When cutting the seed potatoes (chitting them) it's best to let the cut ends heal a bit before planting them. This makes them more resistant to bacteria naturally present in the soil. Also, you'll get better results if, instead of just knocking the seed potatoes in, you set them in with there eyes up, because that's how the stem will grow.

  • are seed potatoes just regular potatoes that have growm eyes???

  • Yes they are. Don't for get to put those eyes facing up when you plant them. 4 inches under the soil. :)

  • thank you!!! .. How many pieces do you cut the seed potato in? ... and how long do you let the seed potatoes heal before planting? tks

  • You can cut as many peices as there are eyes on the potatoes. However, you don't have to cutt them at all if you don't want to. :) Also, make sure your "cuttlings" are out of the sun for about 5 to 10 days (you will see the scabs forming). Also, the more you space them apart while planting, the bigger your potatoes should be. This woman is diong it right, but I would recommend planting them atleast 2 feet apart. Hope this helps. P.S. Harvest after plant is dead (about 3 months). EZ grow.

  • thanks for the growtip .. do they grow well in the in semi tropical SW US?

  • They are actually natives to that region, so HELL YA. As long as this vegetable gets "atleast" 6 hours of sunlight, then you're good to go. It is really hard to destroy this plant, that's what is so great about it. This ez to grow vegetable has saved whole nations if you think about it. :)

  • The reason you cut them is because to many will grow in one spot if you don't and will crowd them and cause them to grow small

  • You can use cut pieces of regular organic potatoes that sprout in your "root cellar"- Eating potatoes are just less disease/pest resistant that the "eating" potatoes of the same type. You can plant them in stacks of tires or in piles of straw or a chicken wire tube - just google around a bit or search youtube for instructions.

  • "you cant use rotten potatoes" LOL

why doesnt somebody just try out if normal potatoes work? it seems to me that it should work

exept if they are from the Evil genetic modified Monsanto guys.

  • no i think it's a regular potatos

  • what type of bedding material are you using? I doesn't look like straw. Thanks

  • will the worms eat the seed potato??

  • No, but slugs, and several types of beetle and their larva will. But garden variety worms will not eat your potato seeds.

  • garden girl i dont have access to seed potatoes so can i use normal cooking potatoes. i also want to use sand and garden soil to grow then in what should be the ratio

  • thats what im trying to find out

  • watch?v=xcFL8dvbQVw&fmt=18

  • Excellent!

Although I do not have your lovely climate here in London UK, I have just harvested my first spuds as an 'experiment' and they were lovely!

  • Nice video and nice editing! I enjoyed the tips, I might try the barrel method. I don't think global temperature change is man made or man preventable, but I love the fresh food and self sufficiency of my garden.

  • I jammed a couple rotten potatoes in the ground and a see a few pieces of leaves comin out, how the hell am I gonna get these things growin, i been waitin too long.

Damn potatos R 2 hard to grow. what shuld i do garden girls????

  • You cant use rotten potato.

  • Garden girl, I went a cut off the mold part and seen more leaves comin up.

I think it might work out cause I see little roots comin out to.

I think I might of messed up by yankin them out and hacking off the rotten part before jammin them back in the ground.

  • That seems so easy. This is very encouraging!

  • Nicely done Patti! As beneficial as earth worms are... did you know they are not native? How cool is that?! Keep planting, posting and proposing your wonderful gardening practices.
