  • The greatest rock & roll song ever committed to tape. Two minutes and fifteen seconds of the definition of everything that has been, or ever will be, great about rock & roll.

"Are teenage dreams so hard to beat?"

    Says it all.

  • these years rocked thanks to bands like these and the punk scene, rock on jimmy....

  • John Peel rip x

  • @hilannie62 YES JP VOTED THIS SONG

    BEST EVER ONE PRODUCED.

  • Why not what a song ! And always reminds me of the God JP x

  • muito booomm undertones!!!!!

  • derry rocks

  • Undertones were so inexperienced at this point that it was endearing. For their TOTP performance in late ‘78 they flew from Belfast and turned up at the airport in London wearing their parkas as it was cold that day. They wanted to wear them onstage as they just had their everyday clothes on underneath. The studio manager told them they would get an image as parka-wearing punks so better take them off.

  • Fergal Sharkey

    Awesome

  • that guys a fucking queer.

  • Love his voice

  • whos the singer?

  • @drleela7 Feargal Sharkey.

  • @Time71Team thanks mate :)

  • I used to buy my weed from Fergal Sharky's son. Worst deals in Ireland. Hardly relevant, but there you go.

  • ok..where are the folk who are 3 and love this??

  • I`m 54 going on 20,and this song STILL does the bizzo. John Peel (RIP) was spot on - this IS the best pop song of all time. Who are these 31 braindeads?

  • @stootrolyat probably tha same braindeads who listen to Justin Bieber.

  • They don't make them like this anymore.

  • This is where pigeon detectives got there influence defo.

  • There's no English people like these boys. Sad. UK is going down and down and down.

  • @kolonizatorUK There were no english people like them back then either. they're irish.

  • is this that dude from journey

  • 31 people need thrown into the foyle

  • according to john peel, the best pop record ever made!

  • Still thinking of & missing you john peel r.i.p.

  • The guitar player looks kind of like Jon Cryer

  • Hang on this is fuckin mimed....nevertheless, The Undertones are fucking amazing.

  • @nimrodsopinions ... it's Top of the Pops, because of time and technical constraints, they wouldn't allow bands on the show unless they mimed. For live performances check out the other BBC show of the time, The Old Grey Whistle Test

  • fuckin ace what a band seen em live, regroup ye,

  • if you're not fearghal sharkey then shut up. Im trying ti listen

  • well in fergul lad pure class, what a great sound the undertones were, many thanks for all your tunes in my youth, cos i bust my duck to this track. mind you she was a loose slag from manchester, sez it ALL really eh.

  • John Peel's favourite recording. 'Nuff said.

  • @lyricistTim John Peel wasn't God. Nuff said.

  • 30 People don't know what real music sounds like

  • 30 losers disliked the undertones. Words fail me

  • rip peel

  • This is the farthest thing from REAL punk and any proper punk band would have kicked the shit out of these Dbag Nancy Boys for pretending they were punks. This is the Archies

"Sugar Sugar " of punk. pure fucking CRAPPOLA

  • oh to be 12 again.......

  • @charliechicpea oh to be 5 again, this music is for 5 year olds.

  • I have listened to this music since I was 12 . They are original, creative and challenging in our current economic environment.

  • thw best dand to come out of derry ever by far love this song

  • Thumbs up if you are watching this n a time-machine on newly terraformed mars in 2300

  • omg i pulled my tshirt up so may times listen to this xxxxx fr&n&b :)

  • Where are these guys from?

  • @thersaurus ireland

  • @thersaurus Northern Ireland (Derry)

  • Great to hear this again.John is gone! what happened?

  • @Salguine Yes, and how exactly did that contradict what I said?

  • Almost power pop, but punk as fuck.

  • @LeLimeLine it's rubbish, it's not real punk, it's more commercialised New Wave, with sickly, lovey dovey lyrics. I've never understood why it's so popular, whatever John Peel said.

  • @ElectronicMusicUK So what is punk? swearing?

Stranglers were punk? Then they did 'Strange little girl'

  • @mccon59 This is more mainstream pop lyrics with "Punk" sound. Punk lyrics are more rebellious in tone To me real Punk rock was The Clash, Sex Pistols, Devoto & Buzzcocks....the Buzzcocks minus Devoto was usually shitty lovey dovey lyrics.

  • @ElectronicMusicUK Couldn't agree more, this is pure gay fucking pop shite. The Germs would have beat the shit out these for pretending to be punks....if Darby could have stood up at least. Bawahaaaa!

  • @Johnnywhamo notice the bloke on the left of your screen with the guitar ,at 0:01, someone set fire to his underpants at that moment.

  • @ElectronicMusicUK LOL! yea the the 'punk pogo" he's doing. I've never heard of the guys before. Where they a UK act?

  • @Johnnywhamo Irish, never liked em, I was 14 in 77 and Clash were the band for me!

  • @ElectronicMusicUK You're a year older older than me so I know where you're coming from. The Clash were a REAL kick ass band that actually said something and wrote a lot of brilliant tunes. I liked punk and I also really liked some of the early New Wave groups like Talking Heads, Joy Division early Elvis Costello etc. After the mid 80's New Wave went totally commercial and started to sound like this crap. I'm sure you have great taste in music, how could you not, you're the perfect age. lol!

  • @Johnnywhamo funny isn't it, teen and 20 somethings think we're too old for Punk music, but I just can't erase my past, I know most of the Punk groups from 1975 - 80 and I recognise loads of songs 30 years on.....!

  • @ElectronicMusicUK Our generation invented punk lol! You are never too old for ANY type of music. I can't see myself ripping the shit out of a bar while my favorite band is playing but I can certainly crank their music and remember when I did!

  • every time i hear this, i'm transported back to viking boys club, rock ferry late 1978. fantastic.

  • Perfect song in all regards.

  • Comment removed

  • they only hate it because you can hear both music and words , unlike today's crap

  • @mrmelv13 well spoken

  • @mrmelv13 Or because it was simple enough to think a hobo who never held an instrument before to wrote it? :P

Just kidding, simplicity is kinda the charm of punk ^^

  • @SimonDaNinja2 The charm of it? I's the whole point!

  • @mrmelv13 And this is live, right?I'm 35 & this has been 1 of my all-time faves("HEY"_by The Pixies is a fave, but,I have about 50 faves & although certain 1s are always"up-there",It's always revolving since they're from different genres, except "Teenage Kicks"seems2 get better & better.I love the way it's so perfectly written that, when played,it doesn't sound timed. It sounds as if it could have been written 2day.

  • Easy one to play.

  • Whoop ;) everyone loves them good ol' teenage kicks ;)

  • The best pop song.......EVER!

  • oohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i loved shergal farty xxxxxxxxxxhee hee ok ok fergal i loves ya x

  • this is just brilliant

  • @ChloesConfessions

    undertones LEGENDS!!!

  • no better thing then making love or getting high to this song

  • @LilReaper608 .... that's fine if you can do it in 2 minutes and 16 seconds...... BTW.. does that include foreplay?

  • @93jonesyjones well put another good punk song after. and no it dose not lol

  • Pumped up kicks parody

  • The 28 dislikes were obviously disappointed to discover one of the best new wave songs of all time rather that some underage porn. Feckin' eejits.

  • I find the advert for 'Best Russian Ladies' at the side of this video strangely appropriate...

  • @SuperTruth77 Sadly, I'm looking at an advert for M&M Direct!, not quite the same effect!! Saw this lot live a few times a life time ago, they were truly awesome!!

  • Just added to my play list.

  • one of my favourite ... i'm older now but I still feel that kick ...

  • We sure liked our noise back then!

  • Never knew these fellas were from Derry :o

  • the band moral crux did a great cover of this song on their album i was a teenage teenager.great song. love it

  • I've seen The Undertones 3 times now in the past 4 years!! They've still got it, even tho Feargal's not with them. And tehy all still look exactly the same lol! Especially the O'Neill brothers!

  • I will never get tired of this song!!

  • Im 16 and I like this music.

  • @amyivisonx you have taste my friend. listen to your heart not to others!

  • 2mins and 16 secs of pure music heaven......love anger emotion happiness= life well that's how i hear and see it anyway.....

  • check the guitarist at 00:10...... wooooohooooooo, im on telly!

  • The Undertones upstaged the Clash at a show I saw in 1979 in Montreal. The Clash had to wait a long time for the crowd to cool down before coming out. The Undertones opened with Here Comes the Summer, and Feargal Sharkey commanded everybody to rush the stage. It was electric. St. Denis Theatre was a sit-down theatre, and many of us climbed up on our red-velvet seat arms and stood up there all night.

  • Oh, dear -- I was actually looking for a That Petrol Emotion video when I stumbled upon this Bay City Rollers clip...

  • it sounds a little bit of the beatles.

  • Shame he went on to do A Good Heart.

  • Coldplay, The Script, Oasis, Snow Patrol?????? Pure drivel,,,this is talent...

  • Awesome

  • 73's from Holland OM!

  • this video is brimmin with powerpop bah gawd

  • Nouvelle vague version is good too.

  • We may never have heard of this song if it wasn't for John Peel... What a thought

  • @Aromaticduck John brought a lot of great bands into the limelight. Well done John, keep rockin up there with St Peter.

  • PUNK AND BLUES IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO AMIGO !

  • The singer is my auntie's cousin!

  • john peel should check my band out so should the rest of you

  • @route19band I think you might have a problem there as he's been dead for the last 7 years my friend.

  • Mine nd Mcfs drinking song !!!

  • Thumbs up if your loving to this in 2011

  • big memories from my ex and my lads love it to

  • So good Peely played it twice on the trot! Nice one Mr Peel :)

  • Modern music from the yawn factory that is X Factor is an awful pale abomination of music. It's not great, it's not original, and it doesn't fill you with passion and energy. Ska, punk, rock, reggae .. these were our roots and this was true music - born of the people, for the people. Cowell is a carbuncle on the arse of our generation.

  • Good music in those days.

  • Who's Simon Cowell??

  • The 25 haters are probably Justin Bieber fans and haven't heard proper music.

  • john peel had "teenage dreams, so hard to beat" inscribed on his gravestone

  • the 25 haters like the crap that green day turned into ten bucks

  • i think simon cowell would openly acknowledge the quality here.

  • what a band

  • Moja omiljena pesma.

  • R.I.P John Peel

  • @clenchNtwist i hear ya mate, a massive loss for all.

  • 25 haters need excitement, they need it bad.

  • @avinabacca Actual 25 haters hates Feargal Sharkey because he hates pirates.

  • the turds who dont rate this obviously like shit like oasis and u2,, fuckin lame ass wankers,, fuck em,,, squares !!! these piss on u2

  • Some Kinda Hate

  • For today x x x

  • @trapdoortraveller Amen to that...

  • Comment removed

  • camp

  • Such an underrated band, but i love them none the less :)

  • This song still spells the meaning of what punk meant to me.

  • this is so fusking great,. it hurts,.

  • I could join the chorus and say that this shits over the manufactured music of today, but I'm better than that. This is fuckin ace, no doubt about it

  • Whoever disliked this.... FUCK YOU.

  • @harveyest1 tuff guy behind a keyboard

  • @harveyest1 i second that!!!

  • First line says it all!! Superb, they were the days (sigh)

  • This hits me in the same spot as early Beatles, except even more because of the distortion. :D

  • love it

  • Bless Peelie for playing this. And then do it again. Peelie did.

Maybe at the wrong speed while we're on about it?
