I would see girls with such TERRIBLE makeup and yet they'll brag about how the amount of expensive makeup they have, or brag how they got the latest so and so. Haha...true,true. I couldn't live without Halloween makeup. I got a jumbo palatte during Halloween that I never used, but it has all the colors I need for great makeup effects. Like, I use the white cream as a base for my foundation so it matches my skin more closely. And by mixing the white color or the brown color with some concealer, I get perfect contours/highlights. also, the red is a good foundation for lipcolor. Plus my mom works at walmart so I get discounts on everything anyway...

I completely agree with what you said. Some people fail to realize that the exact color you used may not look the same on them because of a variety of factors i.e. skin color, tone, and texture. I see the looks as a inspiration not a step-by-step instruction guide that will cause my face to explode if I change one single thing. Experiment people. It's just make up. If you don't like the eye look once you've applied the shadows you have, GRAB A MAKEUP WIPE! And keep it moving.

This is awesome! I've noticed this too. The more I spent on makeup and started really getting into the art of it, the more I just looked at the quality of the makeup and not the brand. It takes me back to middle school when I had little money, but used what I had wisely. Some expensive things are good, but we get too into wanting the name. Thanks for letting me know it really is ok to use my own judgement and not worry about having 100% MAC or whichever name in my collection!

I love this idea, Petrilude. Seriously, I do... its like how in the culinary industry we're usually tested with a 'mystery box' or 'surprise basket' so the potential employer can see what sort of talent he's working with.

I have to make a good dish out of those six ingredients (or whatever number, etc) he just gave me... and if I don't know what that funny looking fruit is, well, I'll wing it and hopefully, make it work.

I love what you're doing with this series.. it's a great idea for those who think they're limited to the exact colors you use. However, it would be great if you could post pictures in your blog to get a better look at your makeup so it's easier to recreate. Also, I still like to know what you used.. basically because I know I can utilize MUA or specktra to compare them to anything I already own. Exactly! Also, why should you go buy the drug store brand when you have already bought the higher end and you like it? Makeup is all about creativity and that includes picking dupes that are in your price range and your means. (such as not living near mac or old enough to buy online)

Hi there, not sure if you have a Walgreens in your area but I just found out that they allow you return cosmetics if something doesn't work for you. Believe it or not I went through 5 returns trying to find the right foundation color...never did and they gladly provided me a refund. Just keep your receipt! (then I found a mac counter and discovered I was a nw45) :0)

I prefer to mix up my brands from drugstores to the expensive stuff, it's just that I have issue's making sure that my make up dousn't explode or my brushes don't break. (I walk around town, allways with enough make up in my bag so that if I didn't bother to put make up on in the morning, I can later. ^.^) Though I LOVE the Green recycled brushes at London Drugs and Wallmart. More gurus need to do that =) I always see gurus telling you exactly the name of the product, the brand and colour name. It almost persuades you into thinking that's the best product you can use for this look. I think it takes away from our own creativity. And I personally think that the method you stated is much easier to understand.
