  • i wonder if i could mix benzo+psychostimlunats like methylphenitade or dexamphetamine

  • One question: Is Dr. Ashton a Scientologist? I'm not sure. Does she know that Scientology-backed "benzo support" sites are using her manual as a bible?

  • ashton has no clue

  • The VA is handing this $hit out like candy! Four years now W.D. and still having bad bouts caused by these nasty drugs. Take these drugs and welcome to hell.

  • @TheHunTwo That is alarming... Did you taper off slowly or go cold turkey? What kind of symptoms are you still having, if you don't mind letting me know? I hope you start feeling better very soon and I'm sorry that you've had to go through this ordeal.

  • for some people...i think cannabis has a purpose. It took me two years to detox. I was bedridden. I now run 5 kms everyday. I am no longer derpessed. I have my life back. My message? It absolutely can be done. I am free of all pharmacueticals after 23

    years....:)

  • @aynrandy1

Drug tolerance: An increasing amount of the drug must be administered to obtain the required effect. This can occur because the body up-regulates certain enzymes to increase metabolism (metabolic tolerance) or through drug induced insensitivity of the receptors or target sites upon which the drug acts (tissue tolerance).

Psychological and physiological dependence become a problem, ever increasing amounts of medication required to try and treat the original symptom which pales in

  • @hoffmanandy comparison to the withdrawal symptoms. Benzo's are great short term treatments in cases of severe anxiety, but they should not be relied upon people! Treat the underlying cause of the anxiety through usually psychotherapy and you'll be much much better off in the long term. I see lots of patients addicted to Benzo's, it's not good!

  • I am referring specifically about Ativan and to a lesser extent Xanax.

  • It's addictive. SO WHAT!! You do build up a tolerance, on SMALL doses.

Give LARGE DOSES and the tolerance problems DECREASE.

You Doctors. You Don't know anything because you've never had the experience of TAKING THE DRUGS.

  • Me too, thank God for this Lady, I'm sure I would've been 6ft under by now if I hadn't found the Ashton Manual.

  • This woman safe my life I would like to send a letter to her or meet her personaly... I love you girl...

  • Bad drug with far too many negatives. Smoke some cannabis.

  • @kudgcn43 Yes thank you<3 cannabis is medicine for the soul its just perfect.

  • @seetheeoceen cannabis is not perfect

  • Doctors should be aware of the dependancy issue. I think benzos can be helpful if prescribed in the right way ie for a short term and then tapered off. But ive yet to find a doc who does this, ive been prescribed them for 10 years now and my doc hasnt even mentioned about me coming off or tapering down.

  • If you haven't tried this med, simply ask your doc about "Benzo Withdrawal Syndrome" (effect from long term Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan=Lorazepam), and request he/she look it up at (yes, even) Wikipedia, as that's about the only place you'll get a straight answer!!!

4.1 million prescriptions in 2006, & your own primary doc has no clue as to the "back-end" effects? "If U don't know, don't prescribe it, doc!

  • Hi psychmedaware, I have to translate your video into French, I can hear and speak fluent English, but I am stuck at one stage for the script when she says that a vociferous group of patients in the UK complained that they had become addicted to drugs and controlled trials of such patients by????? in England in 1982. can you tell me what's instead the question marks please? my email address is fraginfo@orange.fr

    Thanks a lot

    Fraginfo

  • @lalouloutedu82

    "by Lader, Tyrer and others"

They are Peter Tyrer and M. Lader, who have authored papers on Benzodiazepine withdrawal/dependence

  • @ Dancer, I'm just saying that not everyone can cross to Valium... follow or not...

I've seen Valium drag ppl down... I've been on 4 Benzos and I came off them, but I agree Valium is the easiest to come off of compared to Klonopin...

  • While these videos by Dr. Ashton are helpful, many of the same issues are now surfacing with selective serotonin uptake inhibiters (anti-depressants). They are being prescribed in much the same way as benzodiazepines in the 1970's-80's as a cure-all and although pharmaceutical companies contend they are non-addictive many people have extreme withdrawal difficulties.

  • She's great. Her tapering schedule is very helpful. It's very telling that my psychiatrist/refill guy didn't even know about. I also didn't know that long term use would make me a moron with a bad memory and slow thinking. I wish someone hard warned me.

  • I'll be honest, I read the manual, but not all of us can cross over to Valium or eat perfectly, it's not all rainbows coming off a Benzo, I came off Klonopin and that was a hard time, but honestly some of the things she says or writes... I don't agree with. You can use a lot of her advice, as far as tapering... that's something you have to do and judge for yourself. Everyone has their own system of tapering or titrating. I went by some things the Ashton Manual said, but not all.

  • @crazy7house

What didn't you follow? It might help to elaborate.

  • God Bless You Heather, If More Pdoc's were like you this problem would be less severe... Benzos are a NIGHTMARE!!!!

  • Xanax (alprazolam) Valium (diazepam) Librium (chlordiazepoxide) Tranxene (clorazepate) Paxipam (halazepam) Centrax or Verstran (prazepam) Klonopin/Clonopin (clonazepam) Dalmane (flurazepam) Serax (oxazepam) Ativan (lorazepam) Restoril (temazepam) Halcion (triazolam)
  • alcohol should be used instead... at least it occurs naturally in nature!

  • NOT AS NATURAL AS CANABIS

  • Anyone dealing with benzo withdrawal should check out a website called Benzo Wise - it has loads of information and is very uplifting.

  • I went to prison and was taken off 6mg of klonopin cold turkey after 16 yrs of use,had seizures and cut my wrists.Real nice huh

  • I went to jail after taking 40ml valium for 7years, it was the worst thing thats ever happend to me. if i was serving any longer(served1)and didnt have them smuggled in for the 1st 3 months, i think i would of had to do somthing drastic to.Your comment struck a loud courd. The mental stress i went under is still around me now. In fact im worse. The prisons in england are a joke, I heard that the NHS were taking over in there.

  • I wish i had this info 4 years ago. I self medicated with benzo and opies for 15 years. 4 years ago, i checked my self in to a detox center. I was send home after 7 days. Ever since then, my life changed for the worst. To this day, i am suffering from sever anxiety/major depression/insomnia. I always tell people to get off addictive pills. However, i also warn them, to avoid the same mistake i made.

  • she forgot to mention "They are PURE POISON"

  • This is extremely good info on valium and how to be done with it...It is not overnight, but it seems that from everything (I) have seen, on here, or have heard, -the (taper) method is best= It also does not introduce a new drug into your system. She, Mrs Ashton gives a rate at which you can use to begin the process. I am grateful for this information. I hope I and anyone caught in this hell can benefit and succeed in realizing that you really can wean yourself off and regain even a stronger u.

  • Thank you for posting this as it seems like it is coming from a source that can be trusted...
