  • I was a kid--just 17-- when this song hit big. RIP Solomn Burke

  • this just makes me wish i was 16 years old in the 60's as opposed to 2012 :(

  • @meganoddsocks

    i had 17 years in 60years

  • Good version but I still prefer The Rolling Stones

  • what beautiful song ,solomon one of the greatest kings of soul ,they are all gone ,and today ,no one to take over ,it's sad

  • CLASSIC!!! Timeless!!

  • No one sings this quite like Solomon! His voice sounds so young here, it's incredible!

  • Oh my my!! Come on home baby cause I'm watin !!

  • OOooOoowwwww .... I did not know this song was the Solomon ... :O

  • heard it first as a racv com. bought a cd from him, and there was that great song on it . :) plus my favorite "what am i living for?".

  • Classic1111 need I say more????

  • Dam. This is a baby making song. Thank you for the song King Solomon.

  • on se laisse berçer par cette belle chanson

  • Damn! I was born too late! 1994! :( I hate being a teenager in this day and age

  • @rollinstonechick22 You weren't born to late my dear. I sure Solomon King would be happy to hear that a new younger generation has discovered his music and he lives on through you. P.S. Enjoy being a teenager it will be over before you know it.

  • in my dreams that's about as far as that went for me...

    ~R.I.P. King Solomon~

  • Classic. They dont make em like this anymore. Melts your soul. Bom bom . . .

  • the jear i was born..i like it.......its fantastic.....

  • great singer

  • Fantastic song!

  • a very old and nice song-

  • Now this is soul!

  • Right here & you know it.

  • Fashawn!

  • touches my soul

  • One of the greatest singers of all time! If you think that bands don't play music like this anymore... think again. Check out the 'Old Soul' video of this classic and many others above!

  • Love this classic!!!

  • the guv'nor - thanks for all the joy

  • Just slowly dancing in kitchen..nothing else..thx :)

  • Never heard this song until today - I have already listened to it five times - it is amazing!

  • I give Mick Jagger credit doe helping to keep music like this alive. And yes, they are two entirely different performers. But, thanks Mick.

  • Is there anybody out there that remembers when this first came out? Log in & post up, 'cause we need to hear from the real soul people who are SO underrepresented....

  • Go ahead Solomon....I still love you...Always thinking of you! Alright Alright!

  • cant compare rolling stones to solomon 2 totally different artists......solomon just has more of that SOUL sound......

  • Man this is so good this was the jam!!!

  • wow this song is so great i love listining to this when im drinking by my self

  • @theoneandonly357 ..LMAO! so funny and depressing at the same time..

  • @theoneandonly357 Best music ever. Live in a small town in Norway, Europe, so Youtube is the only place to find such music. Do you have other artists singing the same type of music I would be greatful if you can give it to me

  • MARTIN LUTHER KING mon idole de toujours

  • This is just fantastic, what a voice, also love the cover by the Purple Hearts not that many of you will know who they are!!

  • Two differnt singers - two different styles - pleasing two differnet audiences. Sometimes, like me, it pleases both. The mood at the time counts for a lot of music. But remember The Stones and Soloman have performed together on stage. That should explain all.

  • i do prefer ROLLING STONES version

  • orale this is a firme rola.que recuerdos con estas canciones............

  • none of the british singers could ever touch the american singers.

  • Wish all we had to do was call him and he'd come back singing. Reminds me of slow-grind dancing at the Pad in O.D. back in the 60's. Thanks for the post!

  • RIP to A True Legend

  • RIP Preacher Burke

I had the privilege of seeing him live at Vicar Street in Dublin, Ireland and he was just phenomenal.

He tailored the music perfectly pitching it just right for his audience.

Definitive versions of He'll Have To Go and the irish perennial Danny Boy were chilling.

I sat two tables down from Van Morrison and even that miserable old git cracked a smile, briefly.

  • He was my next door neighbor growing up and forever a great and dear friend of

my family. He was from a wonderful Christian family of ministers. His uncle preached at my cousin's funeral and his mother was a truly dynamic, powerful

preacher of the gospel. We were blessed to have had them all in our lives.

  • rip solomon you were a legend , one more great voice has been added to the heavenly choir

  • Para sempre Fantastico!!!!!!!!!

  • great track

  • I saw the man live a few days ago and he put on an incredible show. He also did this song. Great!

  • lovelly

  • My favorite song of all time!

  • this wise old man with his deep sad voice.... I love him!...

  • Is it me OR can anyone else hear the influence that this song and especially this man had on Mick Jagger? Jagger copied his style "people always told me darlin...deep down in my heart..."

  • mick jagger couldnt make a pimple on solomans ass

  • Absolutely!!!

  • @Ohron46 Amen.

  • @Ohron46 Like Mick or not, he and the other Stones have ALWAYS given credit and love to their influences. They didn't rip off people like Led Zeppelin. RIP Solomon, and thank you...

  • And Solomon Burke built his style off of the gospel tradition, and other gospel singers. That is musical tradition, Solomon Burke is fantastic and I'm a true fan of this great talent; but his style and his music didn't come out of thin air, he is copying and incorporating other artists and styles. Ohron46 and Ohisashiburi, you should just enjoy the music.

  • Sure I expect you are right, I think the same can be said of all art forms and artists, everyone is ispired by others at some point and then it is just how they 'personalize' what they find...have a good day.

  • Gospel tradition. Those are the keywords. Burke came from that tradition and had the vocal ability to incorporate those styles and influences. Jagger didn't have the vocal ability nor the gospel tradition to pull this style off.

  • And the Gospel tradition had evolved from other styles of music, and has many sub-set genres within it. Soul and pop music/rock music/blues were all evolving at the same time, and so of course they have influenced each other. Jager is influenced by gospel music, among other things. As far as vocal ability goes, that's your opinion; there are many that would disagree strongly with you. (Who do you think is more popular Jager or Burke?) Regradless, cut out the hate and enjoy the music.

  • popularity and quantity does not always mean better. Gospel evolved from blues, spirituals, jazz and field hollers. It is not an opinion it is a fact, Jagger is not in Burke's category vocally. Soul music is not Jagger's forte. All of the best soul singer's had gospel training and without it you are not a true soul singer. soul music just replaces jesus with baby. And blues has been around longer than soul/pop/rock.

  • Wow, you must have taken a Music appreciation class huh? I'm awed, and now consider you an authority. I've never claimed that Jager was better that Burke, it is you making the opposite claim; and that IS a fact. Who decides where they sit in "vocal category"? You? Stop parading your opinion as "fact". Yes, I'm well aware that blues is quite old indeed (My father is a professional blue player) I'm just saying that they have evolved together. I make no claims as to which came first.

  • Yeah I sure did and first thing I learned is that Burke great singer, Jagger not.

  • amazing!

  • luv this !it makes me feel so relaxed yeah !

  • I love this music !

  • thx so much for posting it

  • no prob. the song means a lot to me as well. You just can't touch the emotion in it, it was well worth seeking out. I dont know about your state, but songs like this don't really get coverage...even by request.

  • @miasmicmatt its sooooo good

  • this man inspires me more and more everytime i hear his voice

    thanks solomon x
