It may be a stretch to say that the badge is "the most difficult" to earn. The Medal of Honor probably deserves that title. Their job as guards is no doubt tough and deserves praise but please keep such labels in perspective when reporting.

@djghook You are comparing two very different things. A badge is not the same thing as a service or combat medal. The Tomb Guard badge remains one of the rarest issued in the Armed Forces, because so many who attempt to get it can not measure up.

Furthermore, the TG badge and others are indeed earned. One does not "earn" a Medal of Honor....you are awarded it, you receive it.

The marines were started sometime in the late 19th century from the US Navy. The marines wouldn't move without the Navy. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier honors and respects all MIAs, or unidentified KIAs / MIAs in WWI, Vietnam, and the Korien War ALONG with all soldiers that were killed fighting for our country. (DNA was used to discover the identity of many of these soldiers, yet remain in honor. ((The soldier from Vietnam was tested for his identity, and they now know.))

They are also combat soldiers and serve in an infantry capacity as well. Most if not all of them have seen tours in Korea, VietNam, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Iraq. These ar soldiers. Not window dressing. That .45 the Sgt carries is loaded and thats not just for ceremony. Go to the tomb one day and try to cross the line and see how debatable their skill as soldiers is.

then i change my answer to a personal basis , some guys may have not been in a combat role some may have done multiple tours in hot zones , now on the loaded 45 idk , but i have seen a video of a guy fucking around trying to get under the chains , the guard went to port and screamed at the guy , also they have an armed security guard at the tomb so i do not see why it would need to be loaded
