  • Pessimists think they preparing themselves for something in particular to go wrong, but in doing so often create themselves an environment where everything goes wrong. Trust me I know.

  • No facts only interpretations :P

    1. Prometheus Rising

    2. Quantum Psychology

    3. Cosmic Trigger 1

    Looking forward to CT II

  • I am rather pessimistic regarding pessimism.

  • A lot of people who call themselves optimists simply want to deny that anything is wrong. They become like Nero fiddling while Rome burns. Only if you allow yourself to be aware that real problems exist is there any hope you're going to do anything to fix the problems. A lot of potheads are complete optimists, but also completely inept at doing anything to avoid real dangers.

  • A particular AIDS patient is optimistic. Someone in perfect health is utterly negative. Barring an accident, who's going to live longer?

  • @DoctorLawyerWhatever

The guy with Aids... Come on.. Realiittttyyyyyy Checkkkk...

  • why not be a realist.. my motto is "expect the worse but hope for the best". that way you see things in a reality perspective.

  • @jerry122063 "Expect the best and hope you're right". Better.

  • But the pessimist will be better prepared for problems.

  • brilliant

  • I am a pessimist who happens to love life!

  • i could of came up with that shit

  • Semantics, semantics, semantics... Whole lot of pseudo-intellectual public-masturbation goin' on in these parts.

If you're an optimist, stop arguing and get out and enjoy the day - quit being so negative and worrying about other's interpretation of the dichotomy. If you're an pessimist, don't get your hopes up trying to convince others - it'll never work out.

And for the record, optimists don't necessarily have more fun than pessimists. Seems contradictory, I know.

  • And you could prove it with different examples, and we could go back and forth, but at the end of the day it takes all kinds of people to make the world work: negativists, positivists, creative people, etc. (check out "Six Thinking Hats" by Edward de Bono, ), but every great man in history has proven that, preparation, determination and having a positive outlook is what ultimately can change the world, Einstein, da Vinci, Newton didn´t start out thinking things COULDNT get done. Just my feeling.

  • I dont agree with this man, a pessimist is a realist, an optimist is disconected from life and only exists longer through ignorance of the real. living and existing are two differant concepts.. living is a spiritual existance that must be tuned to the real reallity and therefor the deep corruption of the ego. existing is ignoring the real and thriving off the material of the ego..

  • The Unreasonable Optimist = Depends on the best happening, frequently disappointed and discouraged. Confidence loss is detrimental to growth.

The Growth-Oriented Reasoning Pessimist = Knows that all worthwhile pursuits are a test of willpower in struggle. You satisfy your desires, you lose your motivations to grow.

Schopenhauer inspired so many prominent achievers of the 19tth and 20th centuries for a reason. And HE was the king of pessimism.

Resigned and passive pessimism is of course awful.

  • He sounds like Stanely Kubrick.

  • both optimism and pessimism are illogical to a degree the way to be is realism

  • epic win spotted.

    (on to the next video)

  • this is the most exulted potentate of stupidity

  • @thundermik

    Almost,

He's the most exalted potentate of love

  • @thundermik You must be a pessimist. I've been there. I was going through shit yes but I could've had a better outlook and that's all up to you. Optimism may sound corny like "thinking happy thoughts" but you do control your mind and thoughts so why not strive for a more positive outlook. I'm so sick of the coddled and depressed.

  • What stupid argument : it's more Fun therefore it's Right.....

"The man who is a pessimist before 48 knows too much; if he is an optimist after it, he knows too little."

    - Mark Twain's Notebook, 1902-1903

"There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist, except an old optimist."

    - Mark Twain's Notebook, 1902-1903

  • @fucktard435345345353 its your existence buddy, and i don't agree with mark twain, in fact i think you only get old in body, and you are what you think becoming what you thought anyways

  • @ragingstorm33 so what makes a positive existence more valuable then a negative? And I missed that last part.

  • There was a lady interviewed recently. She was well over 100 and she was asked about all the sights she had seen and all the events she had witnessed.

She spent the whole interview slagging off her asshole of an ex husband who had wronged her many decades past.

    Angry old ladies are immortal.

The moment their axe has been ground, thats the moment they fade away.

Also, with the eternal pessimist, every day turns out to be a nice surprise, while for the optimist, every day disappoints!

  • @manchester26m

    i love your argument here.

"angry old ladies are immortal" hahaha, i love it!

    seemingly so true too!

  • LOL I love the anti-optimism comments... That's HILARIOUS! " NO BE MISERABLE IT MAKES MORE SENSE!" In the nicest possible way, FUCK YOU! Pessimism sucks! I have a very negative outlook on it.

  • Youre not describing optimists, youre describing ignorant lazy people, thats not optimism. Informed optimism comes from actually looking at the world and realizing that only the optimistic world view promotes and preserves life, in the negativistic paranoid point of view, everything perishes and life becomes meaningless. Read Cosmic Trigger and Prometheus Rising, have all your beliefs and principles SHATTERED, then come back with something more useful to bring to the table. ;)

  • @ilimon nice comment and true, but pessimists do exist in an awfull condition but yet they nudge progressive ethical movment through being at the forfront of reality, they are the pioneers of life and liberty the optomist can only exist through the existence of pessimism around him. does that make sense... its like the pessimist sacrifices himself in order to create a collective understanding of reality and the optimist reaps the effects of the collective..

  • @ilimon Prometheus Rising is without doubt one of the best books I ever read. haven't read Cosmic Trigger yet.

  • @MarijnStevens I suggest Cosmic Trigger 2 first then 3. Cosmic Trigger 1 is good but not as good as 2 and 3. Prometheus Rising is my favorite of the 3 books, I plan on reading it again. I do this in conjunction with Ulysses by James Joyce and Perennial Philosophy by Aldous Huxley.

  • @keitaro202

What?? How can living for the moment be a renunciation of the world? Living in the past or the future would be more like it. And also living longer is not all that important. It is the quality that matters. Living in the present can be like eternity....

  • Optimists wake up every morning and think what a happy world they have and dont prepare for the future, by the end of the day they are devastated that the day didnt work out for them at all.

But the pessimist wakes up in the morning thinking their world is shit, and they have to make the most of it, and if they get a pleasant surprise all the better.

The optimists never get pleasant surprises because the expect the pleasant things of life already, they can only ever be disappointed.

  • An optimist worries about the future and a pessimist worries aboujt the past. They are both losers because they miss the present, now!! The past is gone. It will never came back. And the future is yet to come. Take care of the present by living in the present and both the future and the past will take care of themselves.

  • by definition, an optimist does not worry about the future.

  • @LouisPLume, your argument is easily refuted. One can say that an optomist wakes up every morning with the hope that the world will be a better place and that we can make a better life for our children by saving money for their future. we sacrifice everything today for our children. A pessimist will wake up every morning saying that there will be no future so let us spend all our money now and forgot our children's future because there is no future.

  • Not "will be a better place" IS a better place.

I'm suggesting what pessimists do in the real world, they prepare for disater, our interpretation of what an optimist and a pessimist will do next is opposite, if your reaction version is correct, then you are indeed right, if my version is correct then I'm right.

Well I'm optimistic I'm right, not bad for a pessimist who prepares for being wrong.

  • Fuck optimistic people. Who wants to live in a fucked up world for a 100 years?

  • Optimism doesn't imply that they will put up with any condition, it's just a positive outlook on the current situation. You can be upset with something, just don't let it ruin your day to the point of stress on your heart and outbursts of anger. Optimistic people suck, but only cause I'm a little jealous. :)

  • haha nice

  • If you were more optimistic the maybe the world wouldnt be so "fucked up". Its because people have negative attitudes that you see the world in your vision. Be optimistic and everything suddenly becomes less stressful and lighter.

  • Cancer isn't bad it just means your going to die faster and get out of the big bad world quick.

See I can be optimistic too. XD

  • No. It should be like this:

I know that cancer is bad. But I am not going to be miserable and let it ruin my day. I am still going to have fun this very moment and not dwell in the past or the future for the past is gone and the future is yet to come. I don't want to miss this Very moment for this moment is eternity. Now, that is an optimist. :XD

  • Yeah fuck cancer patients as long as I'm having fun I could care less about dying people.

  • awesome argument
