looks more like late 30s early 40s to me and i agree it is hard to find information on these, on my hmv 495 all i have been able to find out is that its from 1937
I have a Decca portable model 60 here that was made in 1956, this is a wind up with an acoustic sound box and this takes steel needles. Regards Marcel

I Would Have Thought That By 1955,Steel Needles Would Have Been Obsolete,Even On The Cheapest Phonographs.

The HMV 102 portable was still available in 1960 as well.
