Yes Dominicans as a group are mix. But being mix will mean that people will have a variety of looks. Many of those looks will qualify many Dominicans as "Black" by U.S standards. So some Dominicans shouldn't be surprised that people assume they are Black or Black-Americans once they step outside of their Dominican areas. To be assumed to be Black by U.S standards people can have a variety of complexions. Black-Americans have a variety of physical looks similar to many Dominicans.
What's funny with this is that I've read of many examples were Afro-Latinos themselves have been mistaken for being Black or Black-American by other Latinos until they start speaking spanish. LOL
That's true but you don't have to be literally black to be black in the U.S. Blackness in the U.S is more flexible. Yes Dominicans as a group are mix. But being mix will mean that people will have a variety of looks. Many of those looks will qualify many Dominicans as "Black" by U.S standards. So some Dominicans shouldn't be surprised that people assume they are Black or Black-Americans once they step outside of their Dominican areas. To be assumed to be Black by U.S standards people can have a variety of complexions. Black-Americans have a variety of physical looks similar to many Dominicans.
