I like it but wath you think about clapton be racist (see wtah happens on Birmingham in 1976) and make fame and fortune with the music of black peoples ???
I just learned how to play the begging part of this song but I start on the fith fret with my index finger and then my ring finger on the seventh fret stum twice then take my ring finger off then strum once the put my ring finger back on then strum again then move to the E string with my index middle and ring finger then strum take my ring off strum again take my middle off strum again then open E string then move up to the third fret and strum then open E again
When we wake up to the truth of life, inspired music like this will emerge and flourish again. Search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says to learn the truth.
to clear itup a bit more, if you look to others for your infulence you take a lesson from the masters. if you wanted to paint you would look at Dali or picasso not a 5 year old's potato print would you.
Now people say clapton is god & all that crap, tell you what run this through youtube & tell me clapton is great.
lol. all you lot got the wrong idea, imo to have a guitar hero & a person that made you pick up a guitar due to their music they have to be the best. Have any of you lot jumping up my ass aware of the people i listed as better players that clapton?.......
Anyone who needs tabs to play this is in serious need of some practice. I've only been playing for about a year and I figured this song out by ear really quickly. Nevertheless its an amazing song. Clapton, you are my biggest inspiration.
If your a guitar player & clapton is your "biggest inspiration" there is something very wrong. For me it was mississippi fred mcdowell's style why i picked up a guitar. go check sonhouse, mississippi fred mcdowell, blind willie johnson & robert johnson then see if you hold clapton as such a guitar hero.
@Farmaz Wow, what a douche. So now all of a sudden you are allowed to choose who is supposed to inspire me? I never said he was the best player, in fact I know he isn't. What inspired me is his willingness to still create music after the age of 65 and to have made incredibly good music throughout his whole career. How good he is at playing is completely fucking irrelevant. If you think technique is everything then, I'm sorry but there is seriously something very, very wrong with you.
@Farmaz I'm a huge fan of Big Bill, MHJ, Bukka White, Blind Blake, Rev Gary Davis, Johnny Winter, Robert Cray, Rory Gallagher...the list goes on and on and ON. But I'm not clear on why my interest in other guitarists should diminish my interest in Clapton? You see, that's actually not the way it works. It's about having mutual respect for and celebrating all the variations on the blues theme. Like others here, I'm just happy that we have such a wealth of styles and approaches to enjoy.
@SantaCruzOM Furthermore, this ridiculous debate over who's "the best" is tiresome and counterproductive. It's always more about the ego of the person initiating the argument than it is about contributing something worthwhile to the conversation. So much energy wasted on useless confrontation.
My point has got lost in all this crap of calling me a douch bag etc. Let me break it down for you lot. This Yank who comes from the land of the mississippi delta & has blues guitar legends like Skip james, sonhouse, bukka white, blind willie johnson, blind lemon jefferson, blind willie mctell, mississippi fred mcdowell, robert johnson, robert pete williams among others (there ALL my guitar hero's & the people that made me pick up a guitar) he looks to some guy from the uk.
@Farmaz I'm not into the name-calling thing. But to address your point, this is the way music is propogated. To get to the source, we usually have to start with the contemporary musician. I may not have discovered MJH, if not for Doc Watson. I may not have found Big Bill, if not for Clapton. These great old blues artists are not exactly mainstream - they have not always been so easily accessible. Bottom line is, Clapton is one of the torch carriers. He's a portal for lots of younger players.
@Farmaz I'm not trying to argue for the sake of argument, but I see so many people running Clapton down, when the truth is, he's the real deal. It's good that we have modern day artists with his level of exposure that pay respect to and shed light on the earlier blues guys. John Mayer, whether you like him or not, is doing the same thing for an even younger group of fans.
thank god someone who is wiser than most on here, i agree to a point but as to your point of sheding light on the earlier blues guys, the first proper blues man i heard was sonhouse - death letter. I had heard clapton & muddywaters but didnt rate it as blues even though i wasnot 100% sure what "blues" was, i knew there was a more real sound out there somewhere & i searched till i found it. from sonhouse i looked into the delta & found the best music ever.
@Farmaz Thanks. That clip represented my first attempt with a resonator. It was really fun to play - the strings have almost no tension compared with the long-scale OM I normally play. The guitar belongs to a friend of mine. It's not an original national. I think it's a Dean - pretty much an entry level instrument. Either way, I enjoyed knocking around with it.
