1) The covenant attacking Reach is a big deal because Reach is the centre of the human military's power, and it's the last place of defence between the covenant and Earth. It's also the home of the Spartan program and it is the planet that Master Chief escapes and sets him on his first adventure in Halo 1.
2) I don't have the encyclopedia, so I'm not sure, but Reach is one of the most important events in the Halo timeline, so it's likely.
I think at the end of the game, you and the rest of Noble will get glassed in some kind of epic cutscene, and then it will cut above Reach and you'll see the Pillar of Autumn entering Slipspace.
Haha and wouldn't it be like the craziest thing ever if they just surprise us all big time, and after you complete Reach, there's like a surprise other mode where you play Halo CE remastered to Reach graphics? It's totally not going to happen, but it'd sure be a clusterfuck.
