I've been playing violent FPS games since I was around 8. 26 years later, I've played them all, and I'm still the biggest peace-loving pacifist I know, who gets sad at seeing injured animals. The notion it makes one violent is ridiculous. Corrupt politics and stupidity make me more aggressive than games ever have or could.
My favorite franchise is Dead Space, which brought about the whole "Strategic Dismemberment" model, for the most part. If you take away my plasma cutter, my rotting space zombies, and my dismemberment, I'm left with nothing. I want to be able to play Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Dead Space 2 without someone calling me a psychopath.
I Think 3 major things that cause youth violence are child abuse,bullying, and other traumatic experiences (almost drowning, almost being killed losing a loved one even being taken into foster care by the government etc.). These are forms of REAL violence shown to cause real violence. People should stop worrying about videogames so much and worry about the real violence... Solve that first I mean how can people not care or get into the process of fixing the 3 things I mentioned?

There is a rather simple solution. Don't allow children to play video games that are too violent. That's what the "AO" rating stands for. ADULTS ONLY. If an adult has trouble distinguishing real life from virtual reality, then he/she needs therapy.
If you can't distinguish between reality and fiction, you don't deserve to play video games. It's not the game that makes a person violent, it's the mind of the person that makes them violent.

I've been playing violent FPS games since I was around 8. 26 years later, I've played them all, and I'm still the biggest peace-loving pacifist I know, who gets sad at seeing injured animals. The notion it makes one violent is ridiculous. Corrupt politics and stupidity make me more aggressive than games ever have or could.

My favorite franchise is Dead Space, which brought about the whole "Strategic Dismemberment" model, for the most part. If you take away my plasma cutter, my rotting space zombies, and my dismemberment, I'm left with nothing. I want to be able to play Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Dead Space 2 without someone calling me a psychopath.

I Think 3 major things that cause youth violence are child abuse,bullying, and other traumatic experiences (almost drowning, almost being killed losing a loved one even being taken into foster care by the government etc.). These are forms of REAL violence shown to cause real violence. People should stop worrying about videogames so much and worry about the real violence... Solve that first I mean how can people not care or get into the process of fixing the 3 things I mentioned?

I think if video games do cause violence it's a very small correlation. I mean so many of these people say fake violence causes real violence when I think it's mostly REAL VIOLENCE CAUSES FAKE VIOLENCE. I mean people make tv shows, movies, video games, books EVEN music etc. based on real violence one reason being they want to make media that makes sense and expresses emotion to the world. The actors of this visual media aren't really doing the violence but it's based on real stuff.

I had an English teacher who was super anti video games. She thought that anyone who played a violent game would become a thug. She got into a heated argument with a gamer and called him a bloodthirsty monster cuz he plays CoD.
"Look at him" she said, pointing to me, "He's a great student and he doesn't play those disgusting things!"
Then I stand up and tell her that I play 20 hours of Halo a week and that there's nothing more satisfying than a Killing Spree. Turned her fucking world UPSIDE DOWN

These guys are completely wrong, take Aliens vs Predator for instance, its the blood gore and horriffic mutilations that make the game fun, not the fact you can run on walls and jump far distance (but that is a contributing factor) Would you play a game like CoD Or BF If your opponents didnt die?
Most likey not, sure victory is thrilling, but whats the fun if you cant rip your adversary limb from limb and collect there skull as a trophy...

@dkblade27 Actually according to catharsis theory the opposite seems to be true. The release of chemicals in the brain from playing violent computer games actually calms a player, especially if they were angry before playing. As a games tester, someone who works 9 hours a day + playing violent games I can say for sure this is the case. The only time I have seen a fellow gamer get violent is through frustrating losses during team play, lag issues, or the loss of a save game, any gamer would agree

There is a rather simple solution. Don't allow children to play video games that are too violent. That's what the "AO" rating stands for. ADULTS ONLY. If an adult has trouble distinguishing real life from virtual reality, then he/she needs therapy.

We are not all kids seriously, damn some violence is "enjoyble" as long as it's fiction, like in movies.
It's parent's role to monitor what their kids play. Not the market to adapt the level of violence.
I do enjoy violent videogame and movies, and have been almost for 15 years. I'm not a violent individual irl though...
All the violence you can see in some part of my country is definitely not related to violent video games, my geek friends are sweet as one can be.
