This game was never critically acclaimed or well known among the PS2's huge library of games and community. Little have played this game, and even less could really come to appreciate this. Gamespot gave this a 6.6. Many other sites didn't even bother. No one predicted this franchise to survive another game.

Years later, Demon's Souls came out. Critically acclaimed and praised among RPG fans worldwide, it became a successful hit and GoTY. Gamespot gave it a 9.0.

KF has left us a true legacy.

@ecremeans I don't know if all the KF stories are related, but the gamplay and atmosphere are very similar in each one. The KF series is related to DeS and DaS in that they are also unforgiving, dark, depressing, and a blast to explore. However, the KF games are also first person, clunky and frankly pretty ugly (4 is the only one with decent graphics). It could be argued, tho, that the look enhances the experience. KF 1-3 are on PSX, KF 4 is on PS2.

Tell u the truth i felt Demon Soul feels linear compare to Kings Field.The teleportation system in KF4 seems almost instantaneous without loading screen,it feels as if you are there in that reality!

Kings Field truly puts games like Oblivion and Dark Messiah in there place, as far as fantasy FPRPGs go.

It's also one of the few games that actually pulls off the Dark Fantasy genre with amazing success. The haunting atmosphere feels like an otherwordly horror that slowly wraps it's icy tendrils around you.

From Software has succeeded to do that many times. I really don't believe amazing story development is necessary for such a game. A game simply can't have so many amazing aspects, people need to have reasonable expectations, but I digress. I just hope this series has a re-release, but I have low hopes since it's gone freeware.

Also, speaking of Dark Fantasy, Amnesia is coming out next year and I can't wait. It lacks any RPG/Action elements, but will have great gameplay, story and atmosphere. A perfect setting of an abandoned castle I believe set in the 1800's will be refreshing.

I've beaten this game at least 10 times. It didn't get too good of reviews but I still enjoy playing it. My favorite weapon is definately the Moonlight Sword or Lawful Blade. The sound when you swing it lets you hear its power. I wish I had a sword like that lol.

i'm loving Demon Souls and i'm glad they dropped the first person camera. the immersion may be better, but it sucks when it comes to combat. aside that Demon Souls seems to capture the same dark atmosphere and it looks very nice too.

Yeah, I actually enjoyed those games. After several frustrating first attempts I stuck with them and found them a rewarding playing experience. Managed to do Eternal Ring with only the fire ring you get first too! I just started playing KF4 again and it looks rough as hell when you compare it to whats out now but I found it a hell of a lot more atmospheric and the darker mood suits this sort of game better IMO.
