With 10 mrads/hour you might develop an illness after 7 months, serious illness after 2.2 years, 95% mortality after 6.7 years. So don't make a necklace of it :P
I live in Rocklin ca. and I have a cdv 700 6B. I can tell you I can't pick up anymore than normal background radiation in the yard and nothing in the food or water. We are safe in Cali.
@107Ryebread But don't forget your using a CDV -700 which only picks up certain energies of beta and gamma and still isn't that sensitive. But I don't doubt that its completely safe, there was unnecessary action taken by individuals as to what happened at Fukushima.
@1sunvol No, I go around my state looking for radiation. Haha, since I posted my last video on radiation my collection has practically quadrupled its size.
throw that frieken boul out!!! more than a couple minutes in that radiation can kill you! either you caould save hundreds of lives by telling them to throw out stuff by that company or youur gadget there is busted... D:)
@phillipdogyface Actually it cant, you obviously dont know anything about this hobby or radiation. These bowls were made 50 to 70 years ago, thats why people dont use these any more.
Wear that thing over your penis to protect it. It'll be good for you and your penis, I promise! :) Lol kidding.. Man your kinda scaring me. I wonder how much stuff I own is potentially radioactive. Never occurs to think about that.
back in the day companys would make radioactive kitchen ware for the health benefits. there is a good chance that is the case with this bowl. usually they would use radium in the glaze though.
Wow that is a hot bowl; I just got my CD-700 out and tested my Fiestaware plate, and only get around 2000 cpm max on that, less than you got on the outside and less than half than the inside!
One useful trick for determining cpm is find the conversion factor; since the scale ends at 300 and .5 mr/hr, then every 1 mr/hr is 600 cpm, so use the top scale and multiply mr/hr * (1, 10, 100) * 600 and voila. =) Good find!
That frickin bowl is crazy radioactive. Never seen a household item give off that much. Even getting a reading that far away is kinda scary. Id keep it in a shed outside, lol
Your bowl was manufactured by the Oxford/Universal Pottery company. They were stationed in Cambridge, OH and produced the piece you have between 1913-1954.

@cuijiashousinacom I am not sure what you are trying to ask exactly. Please rephrase it and I can attempt a reply.

It's just beta. Close the probe and you won't get hardly anything coming off of it.

Nice Geiger counter - looks a lot like the Civil Defense one my chemistry teacher had laying around in his classroom last year.
