  • go to drug yourself asshole!

  • I was alive in the 60s on my 18th birthday i was drafted into vietnam.

  • You need to destroy the old to bring in the new ( culture , perverted music , TV etc ) The cia needed drug dealers so created the bikers , then supplied the drugs . Then you promote all this via the media that the elites own . The children all fall for the trick because the stars are pushing the new culture . Do you think the media would even allow this to be pushed unless it was given the green light . Geez people realy think this was a peoples movement , the elites sucker punched you .

  • yes growing up in the greatest time the sixties was an adventure of a lifetime and would trade my memories for anything.. i will always remain a flower child .or hippie in my soul and live by my ideals of sixties.. Love and Peace... those days are gone and we cannot bring back the music or the spirit of the sixties.. It was something magical and mystical and once in a lifetime.. Although i still believe in the dream that the Flower Children had "change the world with love and peace. Johns dream

  • WOW WHAT A TIME IT WAS

  • The counter culture was able to exisit because it had a functioning culture around it. By 1973, they were burnt out and looking for new things.

  • Change America for the worst

  • what a collection of dbags

  • @MissDeeCole Screw off MissDee. I;m sure you weren't even born then.

  • What an awful decade. Us Gen Y-ers are left cleaning up the mess that the Boomers and X-ers have left us. If we can survive you guys, this country will be fine. You had your fun at our expense!

Thumbs up to encourage Gen Y!

  • @MBF62 How so? I'm intrigued. :)

  • @MBF62 Hey no generation is perfect and I think every generation affects the next in different ways, and there are a lot of good things that came out of this era too. And whether you agree or not, you can't change that it happened and it's time to get to work and change what we don't like that they left over.

  • a portion of us gen xers (born 1971) missed the 60s entirely, witnessed the disco parties of the 70s, but were too young to participate, came of age as teens in the 80s, and had to settle for the "big hair pop metal" era, took part in the "grunge" of the early 90s, and after age 30...whole new world. A post 9/11 era of war, recession, and crappy music.

I have actually had teenagers tell me, that they wish they were born when I was, so they could have seen the 80s!!

  • @1myGreece

    kay bro.

  • BEATLES was in the begining 4 boys with a lof of style, with stylish hair, with necktie singing comercial and poor lyrcis like "I wanna hold ur hand" and after... in the age of the hippis, of the conterculture they changed from the 4 "necktie boys" to 4 "hippies boys" and why?? Cause In this age be like this was modism and the hippies would not like the beatles If they were like In the begining "4 necktie boys"... so they changed and all for money. Hate the beatles!

  • @1MyGreece Well... you are quite right here. I have also thought of that. You know I never liked Beatles soooo much.I just love John Lennon. I find The Beatlew a bit of a fiasco.

  • Flower Power!!!!!!

  • GREAT VIDEO THANKS!

  • H,mm... if hippies had a government... what would be the name of it? And how do I create a political party? *hint hint*

  • @BnHwrd Many would disagree with me but there already is one...Libertarians! Remember, the government is NOT your friend! Leftists know this and are using this as means of trying to dumb us down so we'll accept their oppressive agenda. Corporate welfare is a GOVERNMENT program! If you want to empower the 99%, RESCIND CORPORATE WELFARE!

  • Those same people who let their hair long in the 60s grew up and became the hardcore capitalists of the Regan era. Or indeed spawned conservative kids who are now the CEOs of bailed out corporations. Most of them sold out their ideals and let conservatism and the religious fanatics take over. Which is why we live in a degenerate world with terribe music and unmeasurable greed.

  • @TanoBrati well that's a depressing synopsis. What about all the good things which came from the 60's??? Like the ecology movement, humans' awareness of the earth we share, the organic movement, independent media, cooperatives and collectives operating through community values and sharing resources to create better ways of living, of consuming???? There is SO much goodness and well being to focus on, then & now...the choice is yours.

  • The counterculture was right.

Just look at the problems the establishment has made.

    Oh yea.

Those heroes of the "60's were right.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • we need LSD.

havent you guys noticed that all these great artist dropped acid.

i need some to let my mind be free.

  • The 60's---Sure it was cool if you weren't in Viet Nam. Or living in Newark, Watt, Compton, If you did not happen to be a Hispanic migrant worker, living on the peonage farms. The 60's was cool for middle class kids who hide in college and let the poor fight the war. The peace movement died, once the draft was dead. Everything was cool cause now only the poor would serve.. If 'Fortunate Sons" were in Iraq--there would be more protest. And don't forget the Overdoses and assassinations.

  • The 60's did not change the world. The parking on the left (hippies) became the parking on the right (yuppies). The ideology was a great attempt. (BTW with movie sales Woodstock made large profit) Only problem is it was based mostly on White middle class kids who once they smelled the dollars---sold out. This does not take away from the uniqueness of the 60s, but does add to the disappointment in the result. The xbox 360 addicts are the children of the the counter culture. Good job

  • I wish I were born in 1940. To young to remember WWII, but I'd be a teen in the mid 50's, be able to drive a beautiful car, and listen to amazing music. And the I'd be in my mid to late 20's in the Late 60's (Hippie years.) Who care if I experimented with drugs to find peace? LOL but anyway, I'd fight for peace, and MOST CERTAINLY attend woodstock. "DO NOT TAKE THE BLUE ACID!" lol that was a quote from someone who got on stage. But alas, I was born in 1996. The hippies message lives on... PEACE!

  • @ oto24680 it was not always glamorous.. you can read my stories on my blog

look up dakiniverona on blog spot.

  • Go Hippies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my bedroom is being re-ferbeshed into a hippie world

im painting it and decorating it

also im gunna get a guitar and decorate and play music

    PeAcE

  • I am a survivor of the 60's... lived in the streets as a hippie and I am gathering research to help me write a book about my experiences... music is the tie that binds and also helps trigger memories.. thanks for this post.

  • @dakiniverona

    A book?

    your a suviorver?

    WHAT WAS IT LIKE!!!!!!!!!!11

    I NEED TO KNOW

I WISH I HAD BEEN THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i sor a pic of it and it was well groovey

    i wish i were there

  • BEST. DECADE. EVER.

  • is this from the time when there was no difference between lennon and christ to the white american draft dodging counter cultural radical

  • Comment removed

  • The Hippies, they abstained from alcohol, peace loving, used theogenic drugs, all nice, spread love..

And suddenly.... The FUCKING C.I.A. introduces non-theogenic drugs, introduced alcohol, and fucked them all up.

A nation against its people is MADNESS.

  • hey theres your dad in his underpants what a groovy guy

  • We need some more love in the world. Give away hugs for free.

  • Hippies hate facts.

    They prefer their fantasy world.

  • no offense, the whole idea of peace and love is great, but i feel that it is more irresponsible than ideal

  • I LIVED IT! Best memory was seeing the Beatles live in 1965 at Shea Stadium, NY. Then summer of 69 some friends asked me if I wanted to go to an "open air' concert upstate NY. Open air concert? "What? we have to sit on the ground" I said. "Guess so" they replied. "No thanks" I said. You guessed it, that open air concert turned out to be "WOODSTOCK". I remember listening to AM radio and hearing the NYS Thruway was backed up for miles people were trying to get there. What the F#%K I said!

  • the 60s as some kind of cultural awakening is a great myth.the rock stars you speak of became nothing but money grubbing capitolists.how much do they charge for 1 of their counter cultural shows.the baby boomers equal greed-wall street, pay to watch tv,listen to radio.try something else or society wouldnt be as screwed as it is

  • the best decade for Crowley.

  • Awesome]]]

  • What started the counter culture. I thought White people were hell bent on being imperialist, and racist. Of course not all of them but stil to many to say it wasnot the case. I wasn't born back in the 60's but I'm still have to struggle with White racism. So what did the counter culture do in that area?

  • PAGANT LOVE RALLY

    HUMAN - BE - IN SF '67

    SUMMER OF LOVE

    2012 !

    See the lines !

    LOVE

  • Yeap...That's excactly what we MUST do.Change the world...return to the 60's and live like John Lennon...or Jim Morrison...Just let yourselves alive and enjoy each moment as you are going to pass out tomorrow. Listen to my advice.Enjoy your life...Be happy...and Do not worry...

  • And die very young from doing drugs. The paradise of Hippie culture is largely a myth. The idea was good, but it didn't work out so great in practice -- see Altamont.

  • iunno, you don't need to do drugs to be a hippy. Being a hippy is about doing what you want to do and have internal peace, drugs just helped. If you could find internal peace without drugs then you were a hippy. They just asked to stop the violence, All You Need Is Love!

  • Nice comment man :)

  • @14ManuChao Way ahead of you. I'm failing school, toking-up all the time, and plannin' on bein homeless and traveling across america paying for my meals by playing acoustic guitar for tips, while I liberate peoples' minds with what I've learned from Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn.

  • @DontEatEggs666 Hey...do you really play the guitar?Cause I do! But,don't you agree with me?Shouldn't we change the world? You know, like the hippies managed to do.

  • @14ManuChao Yes, I know everyone likes to brag, but I'm an amazing guitar player, and I plan on using my skills to change the world. To be honest, tons of kids at my school brag about how great they are and how they can do all kinds of solos and how they took lessons, yet I'm self taught and I'll play with them and it'll completely discourage them from playing. lol We need to change the world with music again!

  • @DontEatEggs666 You know...I am now learning to play the guitar well enough on my own!I wish I could play good enough to communicate through music!!

  • @14ManuChao I'm that good. Lol I know it sounds like I'm bragging, but I'm only 16 and I've met soo many guitar players and none of them are as good as me. I plan on using my talent to make people think and live like the hippies and punks did.

  • @DontEatEggs666 Awesome, now I know I'm not the only one trying to blend the culture and music of hippies and punks......Peace man

  • @14ManuChao Oops. Lol I forgot I just said the same thing to you earlier. Now It really sounds like I was bragging. sorry haha

  • @DontEatEggs666 haha!I like bragging.It's ok.I always do it! lol

  • @14ManuChao Well hurry up and get good at guitar so you can help change the world! lol

  • @14ManuChao P.S. Obviously I'm kidding. lol

  • @14ManuChao BEATLES was in the begining 4 boys with a lof of style, with stylish hair, with necktie singing comercial and poor lyrcis like "I wanna hold ur hand" and after, in the age of the hippis, they changed from the 4 "necktie boys" to 4 "hippies boys" and why? Cause In this age be like this was modism and the hippies would not like the beatles If they were like In the begining "4 necktie boys" so they changed and all for money. Hate the beatles!

About John Lennon ALONE, he's ok!

  • @1MyGreece You're right that a lot of bands out there sell out but I don't think the Beatles fit into that category. I think they genuinely were inspired by the hippie counter culture. If what you're saying is true than I think that Paul's last album would have sounded a lot different.

  • I just bought a time machine on eBay...Just now left the boring 80's stratosphere, and still storlling around the 70's (Nicccce:))) going down to Yasgur's farm shortly. See ya all there:)

  • solo cuando se es joven se quiere cambiar al mundo.....por que ser joven y no ser revolucionario es una contradiccion casi genetica....

  • Me too!!! Well...I was born in 1966 in Puerto Rico. I wasn't old enough to remember the 60's...But it was the best musical decade of all!!! Thank God for You Tube videos, books, DVD's, tapes, and LP's of, and about, the era so that those of us who weren't old enough (or not born yet) can appreciate it all the best we can!!!

  • Amen to that!

  • Peace and love are now the most important words for our world! If we follow them we will become better and better!!!

  • hey people lets bring the hippie movement back!!!

we should i mean the war sucks and america needs the hippies cometogher now!!peace love

  • the end of good old san francisco, the beginning of freaks, weirdos, perverts, bums coming to sf who don't want to work, who are living on the street, anti american attitude, athieist beliefs being pushed everywhere, promoting communism, being flooded with immigrants ,lots of illegals, who do not want to become a part of america, only to take from it,the rise in vd,and other diseases, the start of AIDS.Oh yeah, the sixties were the start of something great, such a special time!!!!!!

  • do u think wer better off supporting war rather than peace get a grip mate theres a bad influence in all walks of life i got a lot of freinds who are modern day hippies with familys and houses and no VD or aids in sight

  • made people insane...

  • Awesome collage of the most Intriguing decade of the 20th century.

  • JEFFERSON AIRPLANE!!!!

  • there are no 2 hippies alike

  • Wish I had been old enough to have been there...Best decade ever! Peace!!!!!

  • You know,I am just 14 years old but I can think like an adult and I am sure that If I could do anything in my life, this would be to get reborned in '60's.How I wish I was there.

  • i wish i were born in like 1950 so i could be 19 for woodstock :)

i'd do anything to be there!!!! i hate the fact that i wasn't...i get sad everytime i think i wasn't there!!

    i hate my generation

  • yes that's right the most of this people in my generation are thinking capitalism and drive big cars. that's not important. important is that we have enough to eat and drink and a house for sleeping.

  • why not just recreate the mood of the sixties and then you can live it now

  • wow guys, this is beautiful i feel exactly the same way...i just turned 16 last week and went to a jazz festival for my birthday instead of all the glitz and glam commercialism "sweet sixteens" stand for. indie spirit!

  • @HoneyPatchworks Hell yea! lol wish there were more people like you in my high school.

  • @larockeramenor screw u hippie!

  • @larockeramenor It's never over, you'll find the 60's in Berkeley.

  • @larockeramenor Yeeeaahhhh.........!!!!!

  • @larockeramenor It was not the best decade. it was a terrible decade......until now.

  • How did it started ? There was no coincidence ! Check out what happend at the FIRST HUMAN BE IN ! 14th of January 1967 !

  • I dont know too much about it but I mean big part in this counterculture had John Lennon and his songs ,,War is over if you want it" etc. you know.

  • I can definately see a revolution of hippies coming back... i see more and more every day and i think it is great!! The 60's was the time to live...i wish i could have been there to experience and see the things they did! i completely agree with lilylava!

  • Achieved nothing? The drug culture had to happen. Without it, we might not of ended up a more independent nation. As for the AIDS virus, no one knows how it truly got started. For all we know, it could have been created in a lab by the system the counter culture itself was fighting against. It took people a long time to realize what was going on and say that this isn't right and that we should fix this.

  • xXfainarufantajiXx, как же ты прав!!!

  • "You better find somebody to love"

  • is it possible to upload this video?

  • i wish this generation could start another youth uprising like the hippies, the war in middle east seems like a good reason to rebel. with all the new technology, like youtube and facebook, it makes it easier for us to come away from pure human interaction and come lose our relationship with the earth, we NEED another hippie movement to preserve our natural beings. How amazing would it be if in 2012 when the solar storm comes and all of the earths power goes out to have a new movement begin.

  • Brother, you and I alike... we NEED a new revolution, we NEED a new wave of music, we NEED to open the minds of those millions of poor people in their shells of their own making. People didn't rally much for the Iraq war, instead people thought that it has nothing to do with them, but it's OUR country and OUR people going out there and dying for NOTHING. another mass wave of dropouts..... ; )

  • i completely agree, people need to break away from habit and celebrate life. break away from the cramped office buildings, the stress, and revolt!

  • people need to break the social confinment thurst upon them by the government

everyone is so corrupt now its ludacris

the survivors gotta band together and accomplish something

    FREE LOVE REVOLUTION

  • :D A NEW REVOLUTION OF HIPPIES

  • I actual think it's coming, look around at all of the kids today. I'm a college student so maybe it's just the atmosphere I'm in most of the time, but I see a lot of people talking about of a lot of hippie like things including myself. If shit goes down with Korea soon I think you'll be seeing it all over again. Nothing will ever be as great, but I think a bit of a "revival" is definitely necessary right now.

  • Man, we seriously need to be... like re enlightened or something, this world is just so corrupt. We need to disconnect from the corporations, just let go and depend on ourselves and the people around us. A new age is coming; i want to be ready for it, i want to survive 2012. I want to be more spiritual and connect with people and this ancient, beautiful earth that we're destroying with our hate.

make a hippie tribe or something, a movement of beautiful people for a new, more beautiful world.

  • You seem to have the right idea! Maybe people are starting to realize the truth about what's happened for the last 8 years.

  • lol I din't know hippies still existed, respect!

  • I feel the same as you. Was hoping and dreaming of start my own town wich people can live in. It is not impossible, all thats needed is the money to buy a piece of land and let people live there for free.

  • What do you call this decade? The 00's?

  • All I know is it's referred to as "The New Millennium" ...

  • I sure hope this isn't required viewing by students as reliable explanations for the period. The amount of significant events left out was huge. The legacy of the New Left is moral relativism, the great paralyzer of Western Liberal democracy and possibly the eventual reason for its demise. Some 200 years ain't nothing, can it survive for 1,000? Open question.

  • the smae guys who created the hippie mvmt created the war...............most hippies of Laurel Canyon were from high military families.......just a big con ....divide and rule....jsut the rich plying at being REAL

  • When the truth is found to be lies....and all the joy within you dies. That to me has to be one set of lyrics that sum up from 11/22/63 till we got out of Vietnam in the mid 70's. I am very thankful for the Hippie movement ,for me it did make me more aware of people who are different and how we can get along some what. Freethinking works for me I can't speek for anybody else.

  • In retrospect it really was a Magic Bus! I should have kept it. KUDOS & *****

  • Amazing song from Jefferson Airplane!Amazing Pictures as well!

  • dont forget that they had sports in the 60's joransue

  • don't worry!

i have a feeling that the 60's revolution will soon come back, through the internet

  • The 60's was just one big trip to the 4th dimension, wouldn't it of been great if we could all have just shared the experience.

  • The great generation

  • Long life to hippies!!!

  • Haha Thanks broh

  • values are changing through the years

go to my videos named "spirit of the sixties" and see how the sixties are just a comeback of the scientific revolution 300 years ago

  • sorry meant personal values and beliefs of ones own including personal world view..you would have to be there..live through to understand..I was not invited to woodstock, didn't go, couldn't afford it, wasn't for me, if this is you then it is for you..60's are glorified....music was awesome, no doubt..it was a cultural revolution, many paid the price ..read bios of ones who didn't make it out..no doubt...I would like to think America learns from past....great video and song..

  • please read my comment above

  • I think part of what was protested was the draft for the Vietnam war. What did we gain by that war?

  • please whats the photo at 1:05? give a link please!!

  • Jim has more Energy and Fire 50,000 volts than all your Evangelists put together through out time.

  • I read that the whole 60's counterculture movement was created to bring about the disintegration of the family thru drug use, imorality, and to create sexual promiscuity in order for the government to cr introduce the AIDS virus later onto an unsuspecting public. The CIA experimented with LSD first before the hippies.Hmm.The Beatles were the ones who turned the Satanic "V" symbol into the symbol for Peace. John Lennon's cartoon in the yellow submarine was drawn giving the Devil's horn sign.

  • ......Who created this movement???....under 30 generation??? it was bound to happen with the way country and world was going at that time ...it was a time that could have been skipped over yet what would have been learned by not having 60's...only pray that lesson learned is not repeated...right... looks at drug culture today...so sad

  • The hippie movement fought for the liberation of mans natural impulses and joy of living, such as free love and sex, only by liberating mans natural impulses can we create a self regulating workers society. A human being averages 4000 orgasms per lifetime, do not turn off this motor of joy and life energy. body tissue deprived of life energy turns cancerous, cancer and conservatism are closely related, conservatism is the frenzy of sexual cripples, it all stems for a longing for love.

  • You know jack all about hippies. The hippies that only took drugs and listened to rock and roll were the wannabe hippies. The true hippies were people who believed in a simple life where they were self-sufficient and not dependent on the system that was set up by corporate thugs who promoted economic rationalism and globalization. The hippie movement was a historical moment in history when us as a people said no to globalization and yes to freedom of love, mans natural impulses and joy of living

  • The 60's were a great time to be alive if you were under 30 (I was born in 63) - Groovy!

  • Turn on,Tune in,Drop out!!! Peace,Brother!!

  • Now here is an intellictual attitude for ya.

  • Well now I know that the hippies were not perfect, but we helped start the civil rights movement, which led to the woman's rights, and all the other goods things. We're at the very least better than the self righteous war mongers that the Establishment was,and is to this day.

  • that was a cool slide show. the 60's looked amazing!

  • i wish i lived back then...

  • Nice montage-

Wish I had a time machine

    peace,love & granola,'

  • i miss jerry

  • Everyone has a right to express their opinion, victim, but you don't have to be rude. Hippies, most of them at least, just have a different lifestyle. Don't be so egotistic please... We are of the free people :D

    Peace

  • the 60s fashion is fucking TOP NOTCH!

  • peace

  • HIPPIES UNITE...you can still make a difference!!

  • I'M IN! I'M SO FUCKING DOWN I CANT WAIT, I WANT IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN SO MUCH!

today's culture is so messed up we need a counterculture!

  • ME TOOO! Love the 60's and we need hippies!

  • 2008 is going to be the next summer of love. the hippies are on the rise again...

  • yes please! (: peace bro

  • Beatles were not Hippies. Right? I mean, the only one who looked like a hippy was John, but, as he says, he was a "dreamer".

  • What's most important to remember is that a hippy is not defined by a "look" but rather a belief. Not criticizing you at all it's just that a lot of young people think if you have long hair, wore beads a tie dye shirt and did any type of drug you were a hippy.

  • Grok!

  • Yeah baby!
