The king was in a difficult position, to support the US would mean Vietnamese invasion, yet to support the Vietnamese would lead to US bombing of the HoChiMinh trail. The overall game plan was to present German bombing of London as a war crime, and thus bring the US into the War. In the event, it took Pearl Harbor in December 1941 to bring the US into WWII. Also remember that Churchill declared war on Japan before the US. Only a matter of hours, sure.

The king of Cambodia, king Sihanouk, allowed N-Vietnamese to set up bases in Cambodia. The king was in a difficult position, to support the US would mean Vietnamese invasion, yet to support the Vietnamese would lead to US bombing of the HoChiMinh trail. It was a choice between the lesser of two evils. He saw that the US could never take VNM and in the long run this relation with VNM would provide security against invasion.Nobody could have predicted the extent of US bombing and KR rise to power.

I am simply trying to show how Cambodia was in a VERY difficult situation which they did their best to maneuver out of...indeed this stance led to the rise of Lon Nol who wanted to take a more steady position - a brutal dictator who led to promotion of the Khmer Rouge's cause up to 1975. Not just allowed North vietname and vietcong use territory , they even supplied foods , medecines . Cambodia was Neutral , but allow North Vietnames , and Vietcong used the territory. My uncle who was Colonel in army. In the 60's he was supplying rice , medecine , clothes to vietcong . He was close to the king . He became very rich . He died during Pol Pot ( Sarlot Sar ) , even he s second cousin with Pol Pot . I wonder the cambodians gorvernment allowed seaport to transport supply from China ? My Uant husband lived in Memot district , he also sell medecine to vietcong as well .

Damn dude, get your Vietnam War story straight!! Vietnam War started out as a "police action." Go ahead look that up! The U.S. dragged Cambodia into the Vietnam War. Now let's get back to Cambodia. Pay attention to the this documentary. CAMBODIA WAS NEUTRAL, or she tried to be. The U.S. "secretly bombed innocent civilians." Show me where did it say in history that Cambodia declared WAR with the U.S. or vice versa??? The bombing was an act of war, I said YEAH RIGHT!!

It's true that Democrats started the war as a police action and then they turned into all out war under LBJ...I don't have to look it up...I lived through it all. Now get your facts straight....VIETNAM dragged Cambodia into the war. As usual, Cambodia was used by a neighboring country for it's own devices...the sad truth of Cambodia's history.
