The greatest song in film history, a song that shows us all the qualities we can have, hope, courage and above all love and loyalty. Personally, I want this played at my funeral, Balto, you were a real hero, thank you.
When I was 7 years old I loved this film, I could relate to it so much. I was the poor kid in school and used to be bullied by this kid and his friends who liked the girl I had a crush on. Oh, memories ...
Wow. Okay, so Im ubsesed with soundtracks and balto so i listen to this a lot. I also have to take this half hour music class 3 times a week at school. Our teacher told us to write down how an instrumental song made us feel, and like, what we thought would be happening in the movie... Guess what song. "It reminds me of a dog. Maybe like, half wolf..." Goes into summary. Teacher is like 0_o howd you know!?
I remember when I first saw this movie. I thought that white wolf was the female dog Jenne and that it was a love story. Now, 9years later, I know the name of the movie I saw and the true meaning of this scene.
I love this movie! Its story is amazing and epic! This song is sure proof of it! That's why I hate the sequel. They took a movie as amazing as this, and just ruined it. It would've probably been TOLERABLE if they had kept Heritage of the Wolf. But they didn't. And it sucked. But looking past all that, the original Balto is, and will always be one of my favorite movies, hands down.
@MountainFox51 Haha. That's the one factual error you point out? Not the fact that Balto was raised as a sled dog, he was sterile (No Jenny, either, nevermind children), it was a relay, no musher was knocked unconscious, everything went to plan (they didn't get lost or stranded), and Balto's musher was actually horrified at the news because he thought the real hero was Togo (wiki Togo), though they both played vital roles.
But I love the movie anyways. It's a movie, not a documentary.
@Eagle1Division2 I doubt... Not that I don't believe him, but the actual sled run took place in 1925... If his grandfather was old enough to be a musher at that year then he's probably like over a hundred years old... Makes more sense that he was one of the children who survived diphtheria epidemic. I don't want to just say things though, so don't take me seriously.
Balto has a statue for what he did.I think it was to hard for him after that biggest trial of his life,i mean it was to much. Then after the trial he had the movie and statue. It was all to hard for the dogs. They did more than enough and balto only got the credit. Its like balto was the only dog who madderd.i think balto died maybe a little early because he had to much preasure after that thing that happend.balto is the best dog who ever lived though.
@Danelledplpslover123 well its not like balto was the only dog to get a movie and statue because of how great of a dog he was. look up a dog name Hachi from Japan. he got the exact same things as balto
“You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him."
Balto is an idol of mine. He goes through such great hardship and constant diligence to save the children of a town that despises him, yet only gives in for a second before getting back up again. There's so much symbolism in this scene displaying the trials one goes through on the path to success, it's hard to remember it's a children's film.
Also, James Horner is great! Thanks for making this.
Balto hat mir gezeigt das es immer einen grund gibt weiter zu machen und nie auf zu geben, egal wie hart es manchmal ist. ich bin selbst ein ausenseiter und werde deswegen auch oft auf`s übelste beleidigt.
@Ketsuname Originally, "Aniu" was just the "White Wolf", an embodiment of the wolf spirit, who came to Balto to have him embrace his wolf heritage. Although, in the sequels, they made the white wolf Balto's mother, which was just an attempt to bring the white wolf character into another film. Personally, I think Balto should have been a stand alone film, and the white wolf being the spirit it should have stayed as.
@KazuKei22 I agree. I think it fits better as a more ambiguous concept. I like the idea that maybe in the cold, and Boris's words in his head, he realized who he was and embraced it when he was most hopeless.
The first time I watched this mvoie I rented it from a local library (only on vhs at the time) I watched the movie so many times in 3 days and to this day I still get chills every single time with the scene of Balto and his mother howling together. I even get teary-eyed.
@gaaraxchocolate13 Cheesiness? What cheesiness? The first time I watched this scene (after more than 10 years of not seeing the film), I will (grudgingly) admit I bawled and had to instantly re-watch the movie.
@Watawaytogo Same here, I'm 19 too and I love this film, I cry at loads of different parts throughout the movie (The scene with balto's mother and you here boris "A dog cannot make this journey alone, but maybe a wolf can") but I cry most when you balto comes running over the hill and howls when he sees the village. and also when you see adult rosie at the statue of balto saying "thanks you Balto, I would be lost without you"
@winday191 Iam also 19 years old and this makes me cry sometimes, the fact that part of this movie is a true story also touch my heart. Its like you want everybody in the world to know who balto is and how much this movie mean to us who have seen it as a child and of course for those who have seen it whenever where ever
I luv the movie, it's one of my favorites ever and whats really kewl is that I've got a wolf-dog. His name is Taz and his mom was a wolf and his dad was a dog. I luv him 2 death and I've had him since he was 8 weeks and now he's 3 years old gonna be 4 in November.
I always howl along with the white wolf and Balto during the scene no matter my age haha, and now my new puppy (in which I named Balto) howls with me x3
@LittleBite17 if you havent seen the movie yet (since you made the comment) you can find it on watch-movies.tv just type the name in the search box ^^
I was very hard to get without buying the soundtrack but I ended up somehow getting it online when my computer still had the jukebox player at someones tribute to Balto website. With a little computer programming I was able to convert it into an MP3 file to be readable with iTunes (I did end up also buying the soundtrack if anyone is suspicious)
Balto was my favorite movie from my childhood. I remember loving the scene where Balto howls with the white wolf. This music captures the moment -perfectly-.
@alexa38 I've got the 3-DVD-Box, but at home i have the VHS(since 1997 - when i was 7 jears old) and now i'm 20 jears old ... and i still watch it. It's a great movie and it is a part of the american history (True Story of 1925).
Oh my gosh, words can not begin to express the feelings I get when I listen to this song. It's so hard to explain. I'll probably even sound like a psycho here but I remember the very first time I saw this part of the movie, it was like something changed inside me. Now, years later and this is still my favorite movie. That whole scene from 1:20 - 3:00 is just, a part of who I am, it encapsulates everything about me. I hear myself humming it all the time. I will forever and always love Balto! <33
They hint that it is in the seqel, but personally I think that the sequel is an insult to the masterpiece that is this film. I believe that the white wolf is an unnamed character that is meant to be left as a symbolic representation of Balto's "inner wolf", an inspiration to remind him of his roots. Not some "magical mystery", like what they pull out of thin air to make the second-rate second movie. That's just my opinion, but I do fully stand by it.
When I was at the zoo I thought of the moive and so I did some wolf call's when we were near the wolve's then all of asudden people started coming from both way's saying I heared them I heard it when in fact I stood there looking down at the wolve's as they came walking over looking up it was scarey but so cool at the same time!
I can still hear the sound of the wolf calls... I saw this movie when I was 6, and wolves became one of my favorite animals after hearing the sound of those calls send chills down my spine. And this song fits the scene so well.
That scene with the wolf was the best one! :D

I can still hear the sound of the wolf calls... I saw this movie when I was 6, and wolves became one of my favorite animals after hearing the sound of those calls send chills down my spine. And this song fits the scene so well.
