  • Das war ein wunderbares Solo. Kennst du die Band Anyone's Daughter?

  • awesome you should teach the comlete thing

  • respect!

  • cool lesson. 5 stars, although at 4:36 u mention your using the G Pentatonic, but your playing the standard 1st position pentatonic box starting at the 12th fret, which would surely make it the E Pentatonic instead right?

  • That position corresponds to both G major and E minor pentatonic. They're harmonic equivalents meaning they contain all the same notes, but have a different tonal center. For example, a song in G major typically "lands" on G. Playing the Em/Gm pentatonic over that progression would normally be called a "Gm pentatonic" for clarity.

  • whoops, I meant "...would normally be called a G MAJOR pentatonic for clarity"

  • where/how can I get the back track

  • O_O' very nice, sounds very old school Dire Straits in the beginning, i love your tone, really beautifull, and the sweep is perfect too=)

  • do you know metallica enter sandman??

it would be great if you do a video of that song

  • Yes, I do.

  • do you know metallica enter sandman??

it would be great if you do a video of that song

  • Dammmmm you are good! You really is a great inspiration! Thanks for the good work!

I still would love to hear you play TOTO´s Africa number - how to play it!

  • Would be a lot of work to play "Africa". Sorry, I´m busy at the moment.

  • Siggi,

I try to learn to play guitar by myself.

    I never wend to musicschool.

And I have the same problem as FenderGril25.

Witch scale can you play on witch cordprogression? What is the difference between the G-pentathonic you showed us and the E-blues scale. They look verry simular to me?

    Thanks

  • excuse me butting in but re: scales. If a progression starts on an Em that is usually the key chord. As E minor is the 6th of the G major scale you can play the G major pentatonic scale. hence siggi started to play the most common box at the 12th fret. All of the notes in that shape are in the G major scale which is exactly the same as the Em scale. Note that this progression does not happen to have a G chord in it but that is OK. Geez I hope I haven't confused anyone.

  • Thanks a lot, it was verry useful.

  • The Blues scale has only one more note the " blue note". Too many people talk about how important it is to know lots of scales . I don´t think so. Develop what´s in your head. With only a few notes you can play innumerable phrases and melodies.

  • Thanks

  • Well it all depends what sound you want, if you want blues sound then you play blues scale and if you want rock/country sound then pentatonic words great. Listen to some country song on the radio and slide your finger along the E string to find the key that the song is in, then play pentatonic scale in that key and you will see that it actually sounds quite nice, even if you just play the scale from top to bottom.

  • I don't get this, why the hell do all my replies to other peoples comments always end up at the top?

  • You're so great siggi. I love these lessons keep them coming please !

  • thanks.

  • Siggi,

    Thank you again excellent lesson.

When you do lessons like this can you mention something regarding your micro cube amp setting and how you acheive the tone

    Thanks again

  • There is no secret. I use the micro cube, nothing else: classic . gain at around 11 o´clock. That´s it. But most of the sound comes from my fingers.

  • that was a great lesson on your solo. Your solo was great. I almost have it down.

    thanks

  • Thanks Siggi

Im a 52 year old head banger and this is something I can handle, You mite want to split your lessons into two if needed and put the backing tracks on your web page as mp3 downloads.

70s Rock is fine with me, even in German.

    Thanks again

  • Good idea.

  • Nice tune Siggi. Thanks for the insight to your roots.

fendergirl the minor pentatonic scale is also called a blues box pattern and when you practice it enough, your hands/ear get what i/we call motor memory so that they know the pattern automaticly.then when you hear a song you can slide up the string until you hear feel the melody match the rythm pattern.I want to hear Siigi's comment on finding the right root note though.sometimes two points of view are helpful

  • yes, I agree. i´m not so much into scale. listen and sing in your head and try to get that from your guitar.

  • Siggi,

As always you sound great and are a wonderful teacher! As a very new begineer, I am wondering how do you know what type of scale to put with the chords? I think you said this lead was based on the G scale with the chords of EM, C, D, B. Is there some general rule about what scale goes with what chords, or do you just go by ear? Hope this isn't too dumb of a question....

  • Good question. I know some scales, but in general I listen to melodies in my head and try to put them on my git.

  • When you improv, is it ALWAYS scales, or do they come naturally? I haven't really played much electric, but curious to know nonetheless.

  • Man, this solo is beatiful!

    Congrats man, awesome lesson!!!

    o/

  • nicerrrrrr!

  • niicee!

  • nice to hear from you again.

  • nice

  • Siggi. Thanks another good lesson. I like the lead riff and shall be including elements in some of my playing. I like you feel and the "blue" notes that you include around the pentatonic scale. Keep well, and hope that the cold clears up soon. Regards Graham.

  • Thanks Graham.

  • omg siggi this was an incredible solo i liked it alot

how did u come up with this one? improv or using arps and such?

  • You start to improvise, certain melodies stay in your head. The end is based on arps, but there are only a few notes improvised.
