First an apology.

Living in the UK I haver never heard you before(but will again I hope).

Secondly,I have heard this song (on stage) and on YouTube and have never heard it sung(or interpreted) better.

You mange to impart the emotion and drama without(as some do) going way over the top and in effect shouting it.

You also have exactly the right voive and timbre for the song,and your diction is excellent.

Any chance of a Sondheim songs Cd from you?

I would treasure it.

I was in the chorus for the Oakland East Bay Symphony production of "Follies," when Darla (aka Wiggy :-)) sang this song. I recall how masterful her performance was, how transfixed we all were watching her and listening to her. It was a tour de force that I never forgot. Nice to have this YouTube version.

Thanks very much for these lovely comments! I recorded this video after a session of some Weimar period music. The pianist site-read this!  He knows the song, of course, but hadn't even looked at it prior to this. This was just an off-the-cuff selection since I was singing it for an Oakland East Bay Symphony concert the following week. It turns out to be one of my favorite too. The song is just so gorgeous and Jeffrey played beautifully for being put on the spot! XO, Wiggy

Wonderful performance.. Wish I could see the rest of the show or anything else you have done! The one thing I wish for -- is that the accompanist truly supported both your singing and your emotion. I found the accompaniment failed to really follow the swell in the music (I know this one well!)... Maybe coach him next time..
