I watched him in 1989 when he scored 68 points with 15 three point shots... again in 1991 when he scored 79 points with 17 three point shots.. I'm just happy watching this... I always believed Allan was one of the greatest shooters in the world of all time... He is just too short for be selcted in the NBA... Aside from his size, his skills and shooting ability is world class... =)

Wow. I really think this man could have played in the NBA when he was younger with his shooting ability as crazy as it is/was. I know, I never seen him play but to score 79 points in any game is hard enough to do. It's sad to know that not a lot of other Asian countries get a lot of recognition for having players that can play basketball.

@stinth correction sir.smart gilas is not under PBA's guidance.It's under SBP backed by mr.Pangilinan. Smart gilas program is originally intended for PBA players,but pba rejected it-bec PBA is cutting the support in national team formation--that's why amateur players were used in gilas. just recently that the 3 PBA players were loaned to smart gilas to have pillars of strength and maturity. just like how serbia NT is doing it with their national team.

what is striking to note though, is that the very same program is now being re-started through the Smart-Gilas team now, under the tutelege of the PBA.

what was even more exciting was the way samboy lim punctured the hoops both from the 3-point zone (3 of 3) and from inside the lane. at one point dunking past 2 giant defenders on both his sides!

franz pumaren was also perfect from beyond the arc in that game (3 of 3), and so was alfie almario. the 2 misses actually came from allan caidic and chip engelland in that game, if i recall it correctly. that was the strongest philippine basketball team, i have ever seen!

if not for the disbandment of the NCC amateur team (due to change in philippine leadership), the philippines team could have re-taken its lofty rankings in world basketball.

if i recall correctly, the philippine team took 17 attempts from the three-point zone, and converted a whooping 15 times in that championship game in beating the usa team, whose players all eventually made it to the NBA!

i am longing to see the 1985 jones cup finals game between the philippines and usa. that is really one for the record books... you can see samboy lim, allan caidic and hector calma, at their best.

arguably the top three players of the philippines during that era! they were of course backstopped by franz pumaren, yves dignadice, dennis still, jeff moore and chip engelland.
