  • I've been a vegetarian for 12 years and just vegan for two weeks. When i was a vegetarian i didn't eat cheese anyway because of rennet and didn't eat gelatine or drink wine or beer but I still find turning vegan very hard. Mainly because, theres animal products in so many things and food labelling is so annoying omitting ingredients etc. but i do agree non vegans do give us a hard time and that is very annoying too!!

  • I think being vegan is a doddle. It is other people's reactions which are most often the biggest pain in the ass.

  • If its not hard, that why are you not a vegan anymore??

"in no sense of the word"

  • Usually only people who choose to follow veganism from meat eating eat more vegan burgers, hot dogs, sausages, etc.

It's more of a transition food for some. They miss meat sometimes, and those products fulfill their cravings.

But many vegans who were vegan from birth don't really eat those products.

I personally think that they suck and taste bad.

  • I'm lucky enough to have found a really nice veggieburger (first time I panicked and had to go and double check that it was indeed veggie!)

I finfd it useful when I am with friends at bbq and such.

the thing about not using real fur, real leather or real meat is that you might like the look of fur, taste of meat ect but you don't want anything to die because of it!

I have a faux fur coat, and have had to defend it several times because people thought it was real. Quality is key

  • "you might like the look of fur, taste of meat ect but you don't want anything to die because of it!"

    That is so me!

    Good for you.

  • you know what vegan really isnt that hard, i have been vegan for a month and i went to vegas ate at many resturaunts and was able to eat good food minus dairy and meat, but hey thats me and MY taste buds

  • @CourtneyLICI0US is it hard like how old are you because i'm 12 but my parents don't feel like only buying stuff that is fish and nonmeat well i want to be a pescatarian they eat seafood oh and my mom thinks i only eat fish now no i can eat stuff that is only vegitarian so help!

  • @OXOXOXLOVEOXOXOX Im 24 now I think that comment that I wrote was almost a year ago but im not sure what your question is, How to get your parents to buy better food?, just have them buy food for you, and have them accommodate for you. My boyfriend eats meat all the time, and we would be broken up if i tried to change him. I dont give a shit what he eats I only care about what is going into MY body. People are more likely to change if you give them information as to why YOUR vegan.

  • How did you give up cheese??? "Well... I DID...." lmao classic. i use that exact line

  • I don't think it's necessarily a choice. I don't choose to feel nauseous about eating animals so, for me, it's not a choise.

  • Yum. That food at the beginning looked delicious :)

  • i love vegan food. so much tastier than meat or dairy.

good luck to all those going veggie/vegan

  • I LOEV CHEESE! AND DEODORANT! AND MILK! AND EGGS!

    But I'm a veggie.

    NOT A VEGAN.

  • I was vegetarian for a long time before I went vegan. After reading the China Study and learning more about eggs and dairy, I wish I had gone vegan sooner.

  • kangarooelaine, I wish I'd gone vegan sooner.

  • Deodorant can be vegan :)

    I use it :)

(You might be thinking about antiperspirant. There are vegan antiperspirants, too, but many vegans like to be more "natural" and think preventing your body from sweating is a bad/dangerous idea.)

  • "how did you give up cheese?"

    "Well....I did."

    Great stuff.

  • At home being vegan is easy its when your out so many cafes restaurants dont have much choice but they dont realise that theres so many vegan food retailers they arent aware of these foods its up to us to write letters with leaflets on vegan foods recipes to start doing on their menu's.

  • You're right, veganism isn't hard. Just like quitting smoking, you can quit meat and other animal products. The longer you do it, the easier it gets.

  • but that is very unhealthy, meat is essential to god health, do not lie to young girls and make them ill

  • Meat is NOT essential to good health.

In fact, study after study show that people who eat mostly or all plants are healthier than people who eat a lot of meat. Read The China Study for details.

  • so sorry, china study has been denunked long ago, no study has show that not eating meat is helathy, however scincee has proven that meat is essential

  • Please read it before you swallow the meat and dairy industry propaganda.

The book gets excellent reviews. And, for the record, it's a compilation of many nutritional studies, not just one.

  • incorrect, it has been compleetely debunked and i am not swallowing propoganda, you are the victim

  • Propaganda does not mean it is untrue.

The meat industry throws out a lot of it you seem to be buying.....

  • Protein and B12 is essential, not the meat itself. Those are easily attainable in other, vegan sources.

  • you can only get human usable protein and b12 from meat, you can not get enough quality protein or b12 from any other natural sources, try again

  • Please read veganhealth[dot]org for actual, honest nutrition for vegans.

You can't trust nutritional advice from anti-vegans like keisabi.

  • and you definitley can not trust advice from somoen who has done no research and simplu nelieves some idiot trying to sell books

  • Actually, you can. Things like millet and other such grains contain both protein and B12 in high amounts. Both are essential to any mammal's cell development. How, exactly, do you think herbivores get these things? Also, protein does not have to be available as a whole, you can get the amino acids easily from plants. Its the same process since we already break down the meat we get and remake it into usable protein.

  • vegatables, if you dont wash them, contain B12 on the surface.

the only thing is that the world is today so polluted that you need to clean them with water, pulling away the b12 on it.

soya milk has B12 inside anyway.

  • Read the reviews of THE CHINA STUDY.

Read the citations listed in THE CHINA STUDY.

Excellent book that promotes healthy nutrition: eat more plants, eat fewer animals.

  • ah another piece of trash, i have read the reviews, the real ojes, it has been completely torn apart as the trash junk science it is, do real research and see for yourself

  • I'm vegan, and the ating part is EASY...dealing witht he shit I've had to take form peers and even adults about it over the years has fucked my life up. I can't find a veg/an girl, and nobody understands me. If I could, I think I'd prefer to be ignorant and not know the horrors :(

  • Hey there, you are right, dealing with other peoples reactions is much harder then just changing your eating habits or choosing non-leather shoes. People can be absolute pricks sometimes to anyone who is doing something different. Maybe there is some kind of group near where you live you could join so you can hang out with other vegans? *HUGS*

  • 67mustangreg, If I knew you soon enough, I woulda hooked you up with certain veg/an girls. =)

(Seriously, I know some girls in a certain far away place that really seek guys. Funny how I ended up being the victim, when I said "I'm not ready yet!!") hahah

  • Thanks guys....I'll get thorugh it, but yeah...it's hard when nobody you know gives a fuck about animals or anything
