A very differentiated, refined Rigoletto. Perhaps a little too much so? And very good acting. Vocally, a good indication how strained the voice got in the scene is towards the end when going down to the "egl'è per me", and Cappucilli barely produces the low note, much like Bruson. Still, he has a rich voice and uses his means very intelligently. Acting is easily a 4, and singing a 4 too I would say.
Milnes is my favorite baritone.. LW is a close second... as for this anti- american competiton though.... 1 would be macneil 2 nucci and 3 galvaneli...cappuccilli would be 4th.
I am usually a big fan of legato but here I find it almost too much at the beginning. I don't mean to say he should have barked it but I seems to lack a bit of punch. Maybe I've been listening to too much Nucci ;-)
Love Cappucilli, Nucci and others. But. honestly! A Rigoletto competition without Tibbett, Warren, Merrill or Milnes--a slight anti-American bias possibly?
What a pathetic performance. Listen to Warren for a real Verdi baritone.

( Perfetta )
Oggi sono tutti tenori mancati tecnicamente carenti, senza cuore, nessuna emozione !!!!

@LobsngDmchoi
Milnes is not in the same realm as Warren, Merrill, or Tibbett...the man's voice was dry as gin by 1980.
