  • Hi Tom, I have watched this and the "Build" video several times, it is just amazing to see it. Congratulations on a bike well done and the innovation drive behind it. I was suprised when I read you are using an AC motor, is it from another appliance? I hope to see more of these on the street coming from your company soon.

  • bikes like this are the future , but for people to buy it , it would have to cost same as gas powered motorcyle.

  • very nice work !!! that design is very simple and it seems very futuristic, like a real electric sport bike should be, I like it !!!

  • Just out of curiosity, is this is a DC permanent magnet motor?

And what is the average life/range of this bike?

  • when i have the money i talk to you

  • gas hole free transportation rules!

  • 1:06 nice knee down

  • wats the price tag on this bike... ??

  • wow... that is one hot bike...

  • Problem with EVs is still their pitiful range. Still, looking good! I think electric motorbikes will take off when they get ranges of 150 miles+

  • this is awesome there need to be more electric vehicles on the market so we can learn from them and improve them

  • very nice bike...a more modern swing arm will make it even nicer :)

  • Thank you for the comments! I have started a company, Miceli's Motorcycle LLC, with a goal of designing and producing alternative performance based motorcycles. I am working on a new concept that will hopefully be our first production model. It may take some time, but I will keep everyone updated.

  • @tm70254 brilliant idea Tom. Congrats and good luck for the future with your new company!

  • Congrats on your success! I myself and trying to become an entrepreneur/inventor. Paying to have things patented rapes the wallet but it will be well worth it. Best of luck to you with your company!!

  • @tm70254 how much will it cost

  • Beautifully done!

  • moto look like from future movie :D

  • this moto is amazing...man you have hands

  • Congrats man, I read the Wired article, and I hope you have the chance to do this for a living...

    Hugh

  • Thanks Hugh, Good to hear from you man. You still have that Cafe Racer? I saw some pics on the xs650chopper site and they looked great.

  • Yeah, it just got published in Cycle Source, a grass roots chopper mag... Have you had a chance to top speed test this thing yet? Or take it to a track?

  • @tm70254 I need help in order to make my honda cbr600rr 2003 electric. Can I do it? Whom should I ask for help? I'm in greece. And what about the power of the motorbike ? I suppose it will go slower, right?

  • hey are u ever planning on selling these? (once u've polished it a little more) i mean u dont have to mass produce it just as a private seller i guess. i would really like to buy one

  • Mate it is not hard to convert any bike over to Electric. There is a Forum were a group of guys guys are doing it to cars, bikes, trucks and boats. Look up

    diyelectriccar(dot)com

    I have a Kawasaki ZZR-1400 going electric.

  • im sorry. i have another question, i realize im probably annoying as all hell. whats that monitor where the spedometer and whatnot would usually be understand it probably shows speed and battery life etc.. but how did u set it up linux? pre made ?

  • No worries, you are not annoying at all and questions are always welcome. The small LCD screen displays speed, battery info and other stats on the bike. It will soon also serve as an on board dyno and relay info from our battery management system when we finish the programming. It is actually linked up to a solid state drive computer below the seat running Lab View on Windows Vista.

  • holy crap labview is like 1000 bucks isnt it, damn dude u really went all out with this thing lol

  • hey, awesome job dude. I have only one question, when it comes to motorcycles its safer to be louder, in other words you want a loud muffler in order for people to hear you incase they dont see you (im sure you know that already), so my question is, is there any way that you could create a muffler or some sort of sound device. my though was to put something like a glass pack with an open end directed towards the front like an intake and the air passing through would give a faux exhaust sound.

  • You are definitely right in that loud motorcycles draw more attention and therefore are safer. What you mentioned is a possibility and would make a great add on, but keep in mind that a quieter bike is more neighborhood friendly in terms of noise pollution. We chose a bright color for the fairings and some very intense LED lighting to draw attention and help with the safety issue. Thanks for the comment.

    Tom

  • u make a good point, and the colors and lighting was a great idea, i would still like a louder bike though, not talking like 454 big block loud but a little ricer rumble, do you think thats possible at all?

  • Of course it's possible using speakers. But who wants to cut their range by exhausting energy on noise? Ok, well, you probably have a point for higher speed=Higher risk traffic in which case it'd be good to have it adjustable to adapt to the conditions (If you're near a loud diesel, crank up the noise). But if you're in a quiet slow environment like neighborhoods that wouldn't like noise and the risk is fairly low to begin with, you could quiet it down a bit.

  • wow great ideia ;)

  • Keep on keepin on.

  • i will be using the exact same motor in an all custom electric car build... whats your take on it??

assuming it is the one from thunderstruck or electric motor sports

  • It is the same motor as found on the electric motorsport page. The motor is actually custom wound by hi peformance golf cars out of California. This motor and the motor controller from Curtis make a great set up. You may consider upgrading to the next motor size up if it is going in a car. Good luck.

  • dont have the money to upgrade it one up, will be running it through a motorcycle transmission (the car will weight 1200 fully loaded with 2 poeple (all tube steel frame) my budget is about half of yours haha... no one wants to give us money, you are lucky to have someone back you up. congrats on the build, it is truely stunning, i hope to one day have the creative mind that you have. i will say my car will have gull wing doors :-D something ive always wanted

  • also, are you running 72 volts?

  • Nice. With that low weight you shouldn't have a problem. It's running at around 80V with 24 of the 40Ah batteries from Thundersky. We are looking to upgrade to the 60Ah batteries soon. What kind of batteries are you running?

  • 110ah sealed lead acid from sams club (like a BJ's or Costco) weight about 50-65 lbs each but i have the space, and i cant afford lithium =/

  • What you've done is really amazing!

  • This is America, THIS is the FREE MARKET in action. Amazing!!

  • Very impressive work. I know its not up for sale, but how much did it cost to build the thing?

  • Thank you. We have around $12000 invested (not including labor of course). We are still improving the bike so unfortunately we are not done spending yet.

  • great job, now time to sell it ;) How mutch i´s the cost? Greetings from Europe.

  • specs? cost? website?

  • 3-phase AC induction motor

    105ftlbs torque

    46hp

    top speed 80 mph estimated

60 mile range per charge estimated

    24 40Ah LiFePO4 batteries in series, 80V

6 hours charge time on 120VAC
