I use to see him play at the "Raven Gallery" many years ago in Berkley, Michigan. He often played with: Phil Marcus Esser, and occasionally with Ron Coden. Boy, this brings back memories. 5 + stars.
In 1977, when I was an editor at The Mother Earth News in Hendersonville, NC, but getting ready to move to Michigan, Kenny Hodges told me to go see Josh White, Jr. at the Raven in Berkley. I will finally see him 8/5/2009 at the Lathrup Village, Michigan, concert. Looking forward to it!
It was wonderful. Four of us sat on the lawn in beach chairs and listened. JWJr. seems to me to have a lot of "soul" about him, and it comes through in his music. After the concert, I went up to him (with some encouragement from my companions) and told him the story about what Kenny Hodges said to me in 1977, and he said he had just spoken with Kenny that day! It was a coming full circle. In person, JWJr. is really a beautiful man, and quite compelling.
we need to get donnie to put gramma's hands on youtube. it is great to see him playing again.
