The bird is a long billed corella and they are found in the wild in South Eastern South Australia,South Central Victoria and South West New South Wales. His beak is naturally long to suit the type of food he grazes on.

You're spot on there with the description, he will use the long bill with great dexterity to dig for grass roots and seedlings. SOmetimes his type is referred to as an 'Eastern Long-Billed Corella' as there is a WA variety too.
