  • This was the first campaign I volunteered on. I was young and idealistic! Now I am "mature" and skeptical! Which is an improvement over my cynicism of recent years! At that time, "72" the Dem Party was never better!! All down hill from there! Now as an Independent I am hoping Donald Trump will run in 2012. Must think out side the box before it is too late! I think Trump is the best person for the challenges we face here at home and will also do well for our foreign policy.

  • @womanbeing I feel the same way you do sir. I hope he does, I would be proud to vote for him.

  • Probably the last of the best in politics! A Truly Great Man!

  • Sen McGovern begged Ted Kennedy to be his running mate. Ted said "Yes," "no," and "maybe" - all at once! He should have taken up the offer - why? The McGovern/Kennedy ticket might well have lost anyway (the polls showed that with Kennedy on the ticket they might well beat Nixon/Agnew in the fall - the only "combination" that did!) Had they won, Ted would have had his own easy path to the nomination later (unlike '80!) Perhaps Sen. K. saw this in hind-sight, though never openly said so.

  • Great choice, Americans of 1972. On one side, you had two good and decent men, committed public servants. Instead, you chose the only ticket in American history where BOTH 'winners' eventually resigned from office rather than be impeached for corruption and abuse of power.

  • @saabrian sorry, we forgot to look in our crystal ball. moron

  • I would have deffinately voted for this guy if I was alive and old enough in '72. I believe McGovern was just too much ahead of his time.

  • @RoonGang09

He was, the times were too rough for him to do good. If he would have came around in the 90's or now he could have been alright. He is a nice guy, which is rare for a politician.

  • sorry u didn't win; i voted for you as did my parents; my parents may have had my doubts but they did finally determine that your vision was ultimately the one that would have made our nation a better place

  • @banksh7

You are the first person I have ever talked to that voted or supported McGovern, and that is quite sad actually, but where I live is traditionally Republican so it is not a surprise. What state did you live in at the time?

  • @efan2011 i lived/live in missouri

  • @banksh7

    Oh nice.

  • The guy was speaking to the very issues that plague us today.

  • @TheStephanotis

He might have been right about some things, but his solutions to the problems would not have worked
