and on a humane note - why cant someone inform the drought strickened areas in africa that they are sitting on the biggest freshwater deposit in the world. 95 ft down on average. simple hand pounded or even hand dug wells would change their lives. "give a man a fish vs teach a man to fish" mentality would fix that whole problem.
i prefer the rounded bullit cap for cyclone fencing. pushes rocks away and works thru clay or roots without noticing. then use your inside pipe to knock it out once your to water level. of course this only works with pipe that fits the caps but it works extra well for hand pounding in a well head.
Thank you for posting this most informative video. I hope we can use this in Guatemala where I live part time. Most wells are dug by hand with no bit at all. This might make a huge difference down there.
This guy has sunk a couple of thousand wells up to 200' at a cost including his own diy pump of $200per. For people who didn't have a decent water source before. Wonderful. I dreamed of this with my own design airlift pump and a borzit style drill. But he is actually getting the job done. For those who want to see it in action see right (6th vid down).

Why not cut sections off of a carbide circular saw blade to make the bit then weld them together? I think
this would cut through gravel etc faster

When you cut spring steel with a torch you ruin the temper of the steel.. use a hacksaw or bandsaw..

Lordy, but those welds look bad, can you say flux inclusions?
cabinetcrafter 2 years ago
But at least they can get water in poor countries with this method, as long as it works who cares how it looks...
