Whitaker's performance was so beyond words it gave me goosebumps: the accuracy of his humor and demeanor, his accent his posture was truely african. I was knocked off my socks with this movie. Utterly impressive!

This was a pretty good film and Forest Whitaker did a great acting job but he looked nothing like Amin.

Whitaker's accent was bad, his gait, not that of Amin. Overall i think the moview was a poor representation of Amin and Uganda at the time.

He wasn't a real person. Nick Garrigan I mean. He was written by the director/writers as an accumulation of 4 different men who had had encounters with Amin.

The character of Nick Garrigan was based on an Englishman called Robert Astles.. thought he was much more involved in the darker side of Amin's government than Garrigan was in the movie.

The reason he was portrayed as a Scot was because Amin really was in love with all things Scottish.. and as a doctor because Kay Amin really did fall pregnant to a doctor. (And was killed and dismembered as punishment.)
