How amazing?? I mean how this could be amazing, its amazing that it still there, but I would be soooo creeped out, and will live in a cemetary if I went there, forever
Wikipedia - A king had brought back soil from the Crusades, and sprinkled the grounds of the monastery. It became THE place to get buried, and the monks soon ran out of room. Old bones were dug up and placed, stacked, then piled in the callar(s). A cabinet maker was given the herculean task of arranging the bones in a respectful manner. Using the mortal dust of centuries as understructure, he paid honor enough to intelligent design, the church, the ruling family, himself, and variant evolution.
@orangenurse Well either throw the bodies in a big pit like we did and hope it never happens again (which it did!) or create a warning to future generations to be clean and nice to each other!
they got them from their own cemetery, when there was the black plaig. they had to take out some bodies from the ground to burry other people, so they used trhe bones to create the ossuary. (long live wikipedia :D)

It's probably just as well I didn't make this video. The background music would have been "Dem bones dem bones dem dry bones".

This is a trully unique place. I never witnessed such an intriguing place. I didn't believe there is something like this but in fact it is.
There is even a site dedicated to it sedlecossuary . com .
I need to visit it, and since I live close enough to the chapel, I might visit it this year.

they didn't had enough space in the cemetery so they exhumed a part of the dead to make some room

Plague.. either way, the bodies had to be burned, and just dumping them would be a total indignity

Catholics are just morbid that way.
