  • If you want to go fare in this sport, take care of your knees. You seem to be strong enough to take more than 225 on your hips but your knees are in pain before that U can near failure...

175lbs in long sets should be more appropriated. I suppose it was to test yourself.

    Good job

  • this dude has a huge ass hehe

  • would lunges be ideal for a firefighting since you have to carry an individual on your back at some point; and keep your balance?

  • yes, and if you have the facilities for it, i'd also do strongman type training, like sled pulls, farmers walks, front squats, etc...

  • @omxpablo19 YEp im a ff and thats one of the main reasons i like to do them

  • Billy that was raw. I used to do Lunges often:D

  • Nice execution! However i think walking/reverse/forward lunges do not offer the most bang for your buck. I prefer bulgarian squats, which is basically a variation of lunges, or more accurately stationary lunges.

By stationary lunges i mean going just up and down with the same leg while maintaining your feet steady. In other words you stop short of taking a step and you sort of squat with one leg at a time.

Anyways, lunges in general are very demanding and require great focus and practice.

  • i'm a trainer, i know what split squats are, split squats or "bulgarian squats" are a prerequisite for being able to do lunges, lunges are far better for strength, since they require you to be able to do heavy loads while balancing on one leg, i do regular reverse lunges with 315 for 5 reps(as of this past sunday) and that requires balance, so i'm assuming i'd be able to hit about 365 off the split, trust me though, my left leg went dead after doing these

  • split squats are ok for making your legs bigger, but more bang for your buck, i don't think so, being able to do that amount of weight with lunges requires far more skill and strength...

  • I have to agree on that. Def walking/reverse/forward lunges require even more balance(and thus strength).

I'm curious, since you reverse lunge for 5 with 315, how much do you front/back squat when going heavy?

I've never tried going very heavy on lunges(the stationary variation that is), but the heaviest i've gone is 50kg/110lb dumbells and it's pretty tough to remain your balance.

I'll soon try reverse/forward lunges as a test...

  • surprisingly i suck at squats, but i'm using resistance bands right now so i'll let you know in a few weeks

  • I love your vids billy!!! Feel free to post more!
