@mylofthouse Hi - Enjoy your hens. I am 100% certain that they will really fascinate you. I now have 24, the 5 original and a variety of different breeds including Jersey Giants, Bluebells, Golden Brahmas, Leghorns and Speckled Sussex. They all lay an egg nearly every day, so sometimes I have 24 eggs per day!! Sell them to neighbours at €2.50/dozen, good free range, 75% organic eggs. The hens all rush to me when they see me and will follow if I go down to the pond. Brilliant.
@myaccordionhistory If an egg of gold, my hen would lay, Then beyond all doubt to you I'd say, (And bear in mind, the distance we live), Rather excitedly, so please forgive, Now at long last I have the means, to really fulfill all of my dreams, And one that is at the top of my list, please accept, do not resist, Is this ticket to travel I send to you, first class cabin - with a view!, Come on over, when e'er you may, Then at long last we can meet - Hip hip hooray!
@Delmontedel I accidentally sent the following message directly to YouTube and as a result you may not have received it:
What a wonderful gesture and poem. Yes indeed, if one of your hens lays a golden egg I will accept a ticket to Ireland. What fun we can have talking about accordions, music, and YouTube.
@musicfamily Hello Jeremy - I hope all the family is well. Yes, I am lucky to live here, in West Cork in the area of the Shehy mountains. My little "village" consists of about 15 houses and farms spread over about 10 square miles. The nearest shop in the village is about 9 miles from me and the nearest town is about 40 minutes drive. There is no proper public transport here, nor are there any taxi service! Must have a car if you live here. Peace & quiet, clean air and fresh water from the m'ntn.
Sorry, I missed this great video. I can listen to your voice with standard English accent. I also kept hens years ago but not this kind. They are white in colour with black skin. I usually bought whole sets from P and P supermarket. When they grow up together. They are friends I think. But, big and small dogs with different stories. The Rodesia Ridgeback are very fierce animal and good for looking after the house. You get a clear sky!
@sia1807 Thanks for listening to my nonsense Silvia. I never really liked cats as such, but when I rescued these from a nasty end, they somehow have grown up acting more like dogs than cats! They always want to be with me or my friend - they have miles of countryside to roam but are never far away. If I walk down the lane or round the field, they will actually come with me! And they walk WITH me, not all over the place, but follow or alongside me - very odd! (But nice)
We all very much enjoy these wildlife documentaries (almost as much as your accordion playing!). That is incredible to see the cats and hens interact.
@MrJintoFong Thank you - it is just a little bit of silly nonsense! I AM surprised how well the cats and hens get on - nature is always able to astonish you.
I can't believe how the cats and chickens get on. Don't the cats like chicken? and not just to look at? I guess it's not Whiskas. too many feathers I guess.
@NancyMbWpg I must have the 3 most silly but friendly cat's in Ireland. They do not have any malice in them, even when my friends little daughters pick them up and carry them round like dolls. They just lay there and are totally peaceful. They have never once even hissed at me. If I go for a walk down the lane or across the field, they will usually appear from nowhere and walk with me. Now the hens have got used to me, they will follow around the yard, but I guess that's only because of food!
Hi Mike I had one pet chicken here in the city when I was a child. It's fate ended up on the dinner table one day--but not disclosed to me. I was told it went back to the farm.-( and not that it Bought the Farm)
That's a great family of friends--but just in case you do need a suit of armour for ferocious beasts---I hear our accordions do just fine. Throw in a couple choruses of AWR!!! and I think that just about does it :}
They are beautiful hens...Love the sound of your accent Mike...Very charming...I like your stone fence that I have read about in so many historical novels about Ireland...Thanks for the virtual look at the premises...Fran
@AccordionLadyMi Thank you Fran. I shall take some photo's of some splendid stone walls and send them to you, it is amazing how the walls are made and how most of them have stood for 100's of years, without any binding or any cement etc., just balanced and carefully locked into place with smaller stone. Imagine the time and labour involved - and actually transporting the stone! No machinery in the older days!!
@mlasagabaster Hola Marieli.
@49Eleonora BREAKFAST? What's that? Clocks do not start working here until 11.30am!! :)
It is so good that the cats just ignore the hens now, they have accepted them as part of this funny family. Eggs for b/fast, egg sandwiches and egg curry!!
Hah awesome video Mike! And it's a great place you live at :O ! I love your sense of humor, it puts a smile on a person's face :) It's cool that the cats&hens live in peace with each other :D and I hope you'll get lots of eggs real soon hahaha xD they should be productive, I mean.. they have a penthouse! xD good luck with all that :)
@Zac360TURN Hi! Thanks for watching this - We kept the hens in the coop for 7 days so that a) the hens would get used to the new home and b) the cats would "sort of" get used to the hens. The first day the hens were let out was a bit mad, the cats thought they were just big versions of garden birds and tried to chase them, but the hens were having none of that and stood their ground. Now the cats just ignore the hens completely, and will walk with them or through them with no murderous ideas!
@ilovetrains63 Hello Dwayne. Thanks for the nice comments on this bit of nonsense. It amuses me how the cats have taken to the new arrivals, and really do not bother about them at all. I am just going to sit in the sun with a cold OJ and read the manual of my new acquisition - a PSR S900, brand new, ex Yamaha store. Lot of reading & learning!!
what a lovely spread you have definitely looks like happy hens and cats
I just got my 1st 2 hens and was seeing how the cats would get along and - The same they pay no attention to them.

@SabMei1 Hello Sabine - strangely, we were thinking of getting 3 more "fancy breed" hens, for a bit of glamour amongst the Rhode Island Reds!
I AM extremely lucky to have found this little bit of peace and tranquility.
Bless you,

You live in a very nice place. Where I live wild animals such as yours are illegal. Now if only one of those hens would lay a golden egg.
