I had a Traxxis Sportmax a long time ago, it was cool but I needed money and had to sell it, but I never had a mini RC besides a crappy X-mod lol
The video was off of one set of RadioShack rechargeables. They last quite a while, but it all depends on your motor. This is stock, so a good half hour...maybe more, maybe less.

Mini-Z's are like the sophisticated, advanced, and less modable version of Xmods.
Mini-Z's=quality where it matters.
Xmods=easily modded and low quality.

You can't go in reverse? I would return it for a new one.
Or, check the batteries (make sure they're fully charged), and also try waiting a second after going forward, to go in reverse. ;)
