im the biggest american saga fan and i just got the new album with the new singer. holy shit i could have done better. the guy sucks.. no michael sadler at all. mikes a rock god and the whole band is the most underappreciated most talented rock band in history.. SAGA rules. ian s solos are over the top awesome./ steve negus the rubber banded drummer and the jims are the best at their field also
You know what, I followed Saga around Europe......absolutely loved this group...they were new, they were different (we are talking 80's here), and when I heard he was leaving it blew me away.....he was Saga....and this bad was a very underated band, they were great....futuristic, talented, and most definately up among the best.....so I believe it when you say that the person they chose was nowhere near his talent...no one is.....his is Saga, and Saga is him.....
@EdwoodCA Thank you so much! I spotted the Time To Buy liquor store located in Encino Park but I couldn't find the house, so since 2008 I searched about it but in vain.
@WhateverHappenedToFu Cool deal! Glad my little post answered a long term question. Google will easily yield the exact location of the house. You can drive into the neighborhood and look up at it from only 60-80 yards away. The view I'm speaking of is in the first photo in the wiki entry for it, actually.
The model is an actress named Beth Toussaint. She did a lot of tv work in the late 80s-early 90s. She played Tasha Yar's sister on an episode of ST:TNG. That's how I recognized her.
Funny how everyone says they went "commercial" on this album. All bands do, to some extent. Think of Korn and Disturbed, they made "hits" out of the 80's songs. Let's see there is Shout, Land of confusion, Another brick in the wall, Word up, Smooth Criminal, turn the page... can we continue... Funny how major bands go back to the greats (80's) for hits? Hoping an "On The Loose" tribute comes out, and I'll bet it might!
Saga's new CD is coming out this October 2007 called 10,000 days hence 1977-2007. I'm also saddened to say Micheal Sadler, the lead singer is retiring from the group and this will be their last album. aaaarrrrrggggghhhh!
Why does anyone consider this band a progressive rock band ? Ok... there are some elements of that 80's progressive / pop sound but I hate the fact that people slammed Genesis for going more mainstream during the early and mid 80's but consider Saga to be a powerhouse band. I don't get it.
This was from their most commercial album. Have you listened to anything from SAGA from 2001 to present? SAGA is progressive rock, whether you call it Neo-Progressive or whatever it is in the prog genre. Unlike Genesis.... SAGA returned to their original progginess, big difference!
Actually have listened to their most recent CD. What's it called ? Trust ? I'm not saying they aren't good but when you compare their sound to band's like Spock's Beard who, until Neal Morse left, rarely if ever did commercial stuff and The Flower Kings who experimented with one commercial CD , in my opinion anyway, don't stand up as a great progressive rock band. Having heard some of their earlier stuff , I've always thought them to be a poor man's Rush without the edge.
You know, it's not often you hear worthwhile banter online. Majordrummer, I like your observations. This song is from what was probably Saga's weakest album. I'm not sure about the "poor man" tag. Saga can stack up with anyone, Rush included. Ironically, as Rush has, in my humble opinion, gone downhill Saga keeps going up. I'm looking forward to their last album with Sadler.
Thank you for the comment . I may be compelled to go back into the Saga archives and see what the buzz is all about. I am certainly not narrow minded when it comes to progressive rock. My taste is rangy. I have tried bands such as Grey Lady Down and Kino which was supposed to be a supergroup built from Marillion , Arena and IQ and while I find them a bit too commercial for my taste , I do admit they have an interesting sound. Perhaps I have judged them too harshly...
Never heard of Gray Lady Down but will have to give them a try if you're mentioning them in the same breath as some of my favorites, including Arena and IQ. Like most bands, there is some split in the Saga camp about best albums and eras. If you're going back into the Saga archives, many like Worlds Apart; I'd start with Images at Twilight. It might be a bit too commercial for you, but it's got some great moments.
this song is great, this and Rush' "Time Stand Still" remind me so much of first year of university. The US was foolish not to promote Saga in their market, along with later Blue Rodeo and the Hip. Three of the greatest bands in Canada that practically no one knows of in the US, oh wait also 54-40, Men Without Hats... uh... Martha and the Muffins. Well at least Loverboy did well (sick joke).
They have had their tries be more commercial, and reach a bigger crowd.. If some ask me with not much of a great success.. They had their prime time during the eighties. But some of their newer material is really great. They have become more SAGA again. This song, and this video i dont like much. Too sticky.,.
From the Album "Wildest Dreams" (1987) I bought the cassette that year and wore it out from overplaying it, and had to throw it out after my cassette player ate it,..lol
Wow, this is soooo rare! "Wildest Dreams" may be a controversial record for many fans, but the production from Keith Olsen is great. Does anyone know if they ever shoot a video from "Beginner's guide to throwing shapes"
WOW! i havent seen this vid for awhile, got it from a lonnnnng gone Video show, i love the "Wildest Dreams" album, poppy but still great progressive rock! -MAVIII(progulus.com) -but do you have the episode of the ABC show "the Rock Palace" with the track "a Brief Case"? thats what im looking for!
Are the "Jimmy" and "Ian" the photographer is talking about the Crichtons ? Do these guys know each other already that long ???

Nah, I'm the biggest American Saga fan. I flew from California to Hamilton, Ontario just to catch Steve's last official show with the band in '03. :)
That was the only time I've managed to see them live, although I did catch a Michael Sadler solo show in LA when he was filming a live DVD in '05...

@EdwoodCA Yeah, last night I searched informations everywhere.
It's a famous house and I didn't know it, very weird!
The only sad thing it that there isn't an eighties movie (that I like) were you can see this house...
Thank you again!
WhateverHappenedToFu 1 week ago
@WhateverHappenedToFu Yeah, it was only in a couple things, actually. But, it has had replicas or inspired-by sets for movies and shows.
Was actually used in the 1984 film Body Double.
