So is this actually a part of a song? The previews already make me impatient. This sounds bloody brilliant. Alternating between this and the kind of music from Remainder the black dog... <3
Why do people think the box set is way too expensive? To me that isn't even a night out. probably just the taxi money... I'd rather buy this and cherish forever instead of a hangover thinking about all the money i spent the night before with nothing to show.
Yawn, tiresome music. Pretentious, dull, mundane, quotidian, pedestrian, derivative, over-praised, ostentatious, contrived, all substance & style and no feeling, music by the numbers, passionless, smug, pompous, souless and hopelessly & unbearingly arrogant all packaged in limited deluxe nonsensical editions at ludicrous prices to easily fooled individuals who believe they are purchasing something of worth. You create your own reality suckers.
@opiumforthemasses1 Most of Steven Wilson's stuff is pretty good to be honest, some of it is derivative, yes. But on the whole, I love him, and I think that if people want to listen to this that would normally listen to pretty much anything on modern radio, then they are winners compared to everyone who does :P
@opiumforthemasses1 lol good ol' thesaurus troll. "music by numbers" hahaha sorry, no. That would be called 12 tone serialism, which is fucking brilliant. Steven Wilson doesn't calculate anything by numbers other than time signatures (go figure - duh!).
Though, I do agree that Steven Wilson does kinda scam his fans. He's got a great system:
1. preach about the unartistic downfall of digital music and the genius of hard copies.
@PorcupineFloyd68 It's not very expensive if you look what the package include. 10x10 inches hardback book with 120 pages of artwork/hand-written lyrics/extras... + Blu-Ray disc with 5.1 mix/Hi Resolution stereo with Lasse Hoile vids + the 2 'albums' + a exclusive cd of bonus/demos... All that for 75$ (well, 100$ with the shipping cost). IMO, it's art and it is worth it. Anyway, when you buy a Steven Wilson album you don't look at the price! :)
@willregnier Eh, with the previews, the entirety of Remainder the Black Dog, and the way the last Blackfield album was, I'm not psyched enough to pay that much for it. I really wish I had for Insurgentes, because I love that album to death. I think Wilson has run his course, though. It doesn't feel as if he's treating it as art anymore, and I'm moving on. I hope the album proves me wrong, but I'm not expecting anything.
Don't care what anyone with a negative comment says... Any musician who uses a compound time signature in their songs and not be obvious thats what they are doing to show off is the definition of a TRUE musician!
@froggo787 I'm not bitching, I've been a devoted fan of this man for years. However I am concerned of the direction that he has taken lately... I mean, first The Indecent, then another terrible Blackfield album, what next?
@RedBarchetta47 All, principally. It's a dumb album full of shitty short songs, and other ones which are even worse like Drawing the Line (horey shit that chorus) or Time Flies, a long piece of boring crap called with chords stolen from Pink Floyd. Guess he realised metal isn't so bad and tried to give a different vibe to his music, but failed awfully.
I miss the old days man, when PT was a neat progressive band and not this pretentious.
@HeavySoaddict Of course you're entitled to your own opinion, but I just want to say that it's a lot easier to call songs "dumb" and "crap" than it is to actually develop a sense of why they're actually good or bad. To me, The Incident is some of the most dynamic and diverse music PT has ever done, and I fully respect that Steve Wilson incorporates elements of Pop and Metal into his music. It shows that he's willing to make great music in genres that he isn't so comfortable with.
@XeroXes1 Remember that this is little over one minute of one track that you're basing your opinion off. Think of "Get All You Deserve" from Insurgentes... starts off as a very mellow, beautiful piano driven track that ends in an oblivion of bit crushed guitars and discordant white noise. This album could just as (or more) dark and heavy!
@ampermen2009 You are obivously right, and I know that this sample is pretty short to judge, but that doesn't have to stop me from forming some opinion, right ? :) I know it is going to be superawesome, as everything Steven does :)
this sounds really nice but i hope the album will be more original because it sounds like a very typical sw song to me. but i doubt it will disappoint me given how great insurgentes was.
I agree also.. but that is just exactly the working component; the mystery, the patience, the waiting .. and then, lastly but never least,.. the musical pay-off when he releases this newest venture.
Nobody's doing this sound because only he can DO this sound. All we need is just one Steven Wilson.
I could care less about all the bullshit/ fake youth "musicians" swimming in fame who can sing but who cannot feel.
I´m a fan of Wilson and PT since his FIRST concert in Cologne(100 people or so); just visited his site for "Grace for Drowning"- and...
...WOULD YOU PLEASE DO BRIGHTEN UP, Mr.Wilson? Yes, he´s a genius; yes, we die of beauty, but... something with a litte more...well, I don`t know.
I`ll bake a cake for him(Cologne, october, Live Music Hall).
