I was just getting into Star Wars in the era of the prequels (not my fault I'm only 19) and they are dear to me because I was able to experience them as they came out. That said, this is probably one of my favorite Star Wars scences in existance and ironically it is from the original trilogy. From this scene to the end is the reason this is my favorite Star Wars movie.
They use 1:10 and up for the crafting of your lightsaber as a Jedi Knight in swtor. Been trying to find the song as a swtor soundtrack, but then I realized that they simply sampled this and didn't actually make a new song out of it.
When I listen to this I aways think of this scene as a retribution, putting the end of Vader for all the lives he took. For the friends he betrayed. For the loss of everything which had meaning. And this retribution comes swiftly by his own son, trying to repair his grave mistakes. Amazing job Lucas! Best scene in the saga!
its sad that even though luke was a jedi, his last fight was A) invoked by his own anger, which jedis should never have in the first place and B) he wasnt eve skilled, he just randomly swung. so tragic
This has to be one of the best sword fights in any film. George Lucas really missed the boat in the prequels because very few of the lightsaber battles had any sort of emotional context. In the originals, every duel results in a plot ultimatum that leaves both the characters and audience emotionally charged. The way this fight supports that is brilliant, especially when the choral part of the music reaches its climax with the camera panning in the dark of the Emperor's chamber. Bravo, Williams.
@1TomAhs1 Awesome sound quality bud, this is my all time favourite movie scene ever, I still get goosebumps watching this bit! The original Star Wars movies were the greatest of all, and modern movies owe a lot to these movies! :D
@matanui2k9 TOTALLY agree I was gonna say the exact same thing! the other musical scores (such as the "imperial march" or "duel of the fates") are all well done & grandiose, but the here starting @ 1:14 is plain EPIC. dunno how exactly, but it perfectly captures the feel of a REAL 1 vs 1 duel not just father vs son but also the eternal struggle of Good vs Evil (especially from 1:26 - 1:32), conveys a feeling of both grandeur & doom
John Williams put his full ingenuity into this one, no doubt :)
@matanui2k9 because back in the day before cgi destroyed movies. u had to have alot of emotion to make movie magic especially with a movie like this, which this scene does really well and is also my fav star wars scene. but the last 3 movies the light saber battles are crap compared to orginal movies. due to special effects replacing emotion.
@Arminius1746 i will admit i prefer that lightsaber fights in prequels, but theres more emotion in the originals, as there was no jedi not having attatchments, im imbetween i like episode 3 in prequels n episode 6 in originals

It's my least favourite, because Jedi and Sith lightsaber duels are actually so fast that the human eye cant see it, and judging by the thousands of different moves and techniques, striking randomly against a Sith/Jedi would kill you instantly. The newer films were better in a sense that the lightsaber duels were more real to the saga.

This is my favorite SW movie, and favorite song in the whole of SW, bar the main theme. This is so great.

This theme by John Williams has so much emotion, for me 1:00-1:50 is just perfection.

To this day, I get shivers. My god I can't wait for the original trilogy theatrical rerelease. Although damn it that it had to be 3D.

Don't think any other composer could capture emotion as well as John Williams does. Literally a genius.

@Khalirei To remix or remake this track would have more outraged star wars fans than when George Lucas edited Greedo to shoot first.

"the lightsaber duels in the prequels are
more true to the saga?" What are you, retarded? How can the later movies, rather than the ORIGINALS, define the saga?

Seriously good music and duel after watching the entire seires of Star Wars this week this music really shows this is the final battle :)
GalacticWarzz 7 months ago
This music includes a mix of:
Fear: Luke is actually turning to the dark side at this point (anger)
Anger: The feelings that the character Luke is feeling
Heroic: That Luke is fighting for good
Evil: That Luke is also showing evil.
Very rarely you see these ingredients work well with one another, because they are so different.
