problem with this is is that must be expensive as hell to do all of this with apple products.

gotta have an up-to-date iPhone, ipad, apple tv device, then u have to buy the movie, and u also have to have a physical tv, and fast internet connection for movies streaming.

all that built up makes it hard for me to do that and id be so short on money i wouldnt have money for other things lol. ill keep dreaming though

I have an iPad (First Generation) with iOS 4.3.5 and synchronized (empaired) its bluetooth with my Dell Inspiron Laptop bluetooth, hence, I don't use the Apple TV nor a Mac computer or Macbook and I connect to my laptop through the iPad bluetooth command. Ah, and my iOS isn't jailbroken so this is a normal command in the system. So far I can listen to the songs in the iPod app of the iPad in my Dell laptop. So it's possible to use the AirPlay without the AppleTV.

@TheAdrianConway Most likely the same quality as the one on your Apple device. Like if you download an HD movie from itunes from your Apple device, most likely the quality that plays on Apple TV will be HD as well.

@trinhk Officially, yes... however, you can put free apps on your iPhone/iPad to stream AirPlay videos to them (I'd recommend Airview) or on your Mac (AirPlayer). There are Windows apps that let you stream to Windows PCs, but I've never used them.

Wow its almost like I haven't been doing that for years now with an Xbox and Media Center. Or a home network. You can down DOS all you want but I can have a couple terabits on my network, use my desktop as a DVR, have a remote to do all that works anywhere in the house. Walk in the home theater room and instantly watch anymovie, play xbox upstairs, look at pictures, all that for half the price of Apple. Question all that works great and all but who only has 64 gb of media on their hard drive.

I really don't understand the purpose of this Airplay. All that you are doing is essentially bypassing an Itunes 10 software to AppleTv feature called "Home Sharing". Just lay down your Ipad, grab your Appletv remote and press enter on "Dan Computer" and Then enter on the "Batman The Dark Knight" movie....and there you have it on your big screen without having to waste your Ipad battery! I don't see the purpose of it.

@azulsport4L You are correct. But lets say you rent a movie or TV show on your iPad (or iPhone or iPod Touch) and decide you want to watch it on your TV. You simply press the AirPlay icon and now you can watch it on your AppleTV. You can also view photos that are stored on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. Here is another example. If you have a friend over they can play their videos on your AppleTV. So, there are a lot of good uses for AirPlay where iTunes Home Sharing would not work.

@myapplezone It is no different than one just renting straight from the AppleTV. You also mentioned viewing photos from the Ipad on your ATV. Again, you can view them directly on your ATV under Photo Library. I understand the novelty that Apple is trying to market with this product but I find it gimmicky when apple tries to tout a NEW feature of lesser significance. Rent a show on an Ipad, Cmon! Id rather rent it on my premium display device. Now viewing friends content on your ATV is good!

Hi,need some help here, i just installed the IOS 4.2 on my iphone 4 but sadly haven't got airplay option anywhere in my phone (checked youtube app & media player app thoroughly ) :( i did restore it couple of times just to make sure that all went well but didn't work out though.....by the way I'm in London ( don't think they have two different IOSs out there ) please help if you got any clue :( will be highly appreciated !!! peace
