hey this might seem an odd request but can you give a simple vid of how you tune your snare and stick grip positions? I've been playing for ten years but i can't seem to get the lovely snare bounce and smooth rolls without forcing them with single strokes cause my snare always feels kinda dead/non bouncy. Its a vented snare also, what says you elliot?
@behindthen0thing i've talked with Gavin Harrison about these things and Derek Roddy personally but still couldn't get any real concrete answers on such a seemingly simple thing. Oh and periphery's drummer too matt, he said something about rudiments but thats about the most usefull i can get about it from them. help ?
Hey.....Stick technique is a very involved subject and can be approached in a ton of different ways. Since you've been playing for ten years already, you may have formed some bad habits. The foundation of most of my hand technique stuff is a mixture of German grip(Palms down), French Grip(thumbs on top using fingers) and a lot of moeller method. There is a wealth of info on the web about all of these.
And I don't rely on the head for bounce or rebound so much, Play on pillows!
damn. i just started watching your vids and lisining to car bomb. im learning poly-rythyms right now and they are a complete bitch when you are first starting out. do you have any advice for making them more natural?
Elliot, you are sounding GREAT! Of course, this is coming from a fellow Vinnie freak... Seriously, though, your sound is really nice and all your ideas are really flowing. Man--I'd like to try my hand at blowing over that tune! Looked fun!!
You have really Gavin Harrison type approach on playing this. Admirable for tech metal drummer. Love your playing mate!

Good stuff, thanks for posting up another video. Digging the 5s at 1:52. May I ask what song it is you are playing along to?
